The hotel is conveniently located near Sanjo Station, making it easy to get around. The area is lively, but the hotel itself is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. The room design is quite vintage, but the windows don't open and are covered with a frosted film, so you can't see the outside view. Really enjoy the location by the water and close walk to gion and many sights. A lot of good food around, as well as a lot of nightlife. Close the windows if noise is going to be an issue for you

It was an incredibly well located hotel - within access of everything you'll need either walking or by the two train routes (subway or Keihan). Hotel were one of the most welcoming we experienced - personal reception service appears rarer in Japan and we really appreciated the warm welcome. Lots of amenities - you just have to get them at reception (all free). Top things for us: all day access to free coffee machine (iced matcha latte) and spacious room. Only negative for us was the bathroom (like being on a boat with all the enclosed plastic).

Small, older hotel room. Older furniture and bathroom facilities. Limited places to put clothes and other items outside of suitcase. Nowhere convenient to leave suitcase open in room. Highly convenient location close to subway and Keihan train. Short walk to river, Gion, shopping area, and many restaurants and bars. Quite loud with window open at night.
