Stayed here for one night. Overall, it was an okay experience but with some downsides.
The main issue was the noise — there’s a club opposite the hotel, and the music was very loud throughout the night. Even from our room (not directly next to it), we could clearly hear the bass, which made it quite difficult to sleep.
The room itself was generally clean, but the bathroom could use improvement. The bathtub was slightly moldy and felt slippery, and the showerhead leaked, causing water to spread onto the bathroom floor.
Food was average — nothing memorable. The chicken was overcooked and the noodles were a bit too salty.
On the positive side, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a 7-Eleven conveniently located right next door.
Overall, it’s an okay stay for a short trip, but the noise and bathroom condition were the main drawbacks.

Clean room. Friendly & helpful staff. Location not so convenient cos of the RTS construction. Swimming pool & other facilities on level 13 under renovation during our stay. Shower screen glass door faulty, cannot close completely, water flow out when we shower. Whole toilet floor wet. Floor tiles not the anti fall tiles. Breakfast was so so only. Lots of varieties but taste not there. I rather they focus on fewer dishes and taste good.
Facilities: The facilities are a bit old, which is understandable since the hotel itself is quite old.
Hygiene: Despite the hotel being old, it was very clean. The room had no strange smells, and the beach was also clean with no rubbish.
Environment: The environment was absolutely fantastic, haha! The beach is right outside, and when we went, there was hardly anyone around. It was incredibly relaxing, and we could see the sea right from our room.
Service: The staff were very welcoming. The buffet was decent; I especially loved the soft-boiled eggs. Although the air conditioning, hairdryer, and sink drainage were all broken on the first day of check-in, and they couldn't fix it overnight, they did move us to another room on the second day. Overall, I'd give it a 4 out of 5.
Sand & Sandals has always been our choice resort when we stay in Desaru. We used to stay at this resort at least 4 to 5 time a year during 2006 till 2019. The rooms are large and very cozy and comfortable with easy access to the restaurants. Staff are very friendly and always ready to help out with a smile. Then Covid hit and we everything went haywire.
We decided to return to this resort (from 15-18 April 2026) after a long absence. The resort still has its charm. Will make this our go to resort for our future trips.
Cheers! Suhana & Imran
Check in and check out really fast and smooth. Not many people checked in compared to my previous booking which took more than half an hour. The room is very spacious and I love the king bed and super single bed. More than enough for me, husband and 2 daughters. The bathroom is spacious too. I love everything in the room esp the seaview balcony The food for room dining also very reasonable. The breakfast is just average. Quite limited choices and RM55/pax for breakfast is not really worth it since limited choices. Better to order from menu. Ample parking (open and covered parking). Overall, I had a great stay and definitely will return
I was unlucky during my stay since the we couldn't swim in the sea due to strong wave. But the swimming pool is more than enough.

Great and comfortable stay with a fabulous sea view. All great with prompt service via WhatsApp, spacious, clean, except that the toilets have bad sewage smell, and it’s abit cumbersome with the QR code on the glass door to the building, and sensitive key pad for main door code. Luckily response was quick enough to settle all issues. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will book again for big groups in future again.

The view from the unit's balcony is world-class, but unfortunately, the door lock is loose, and the laundry balcony door can only be opened from the outside, not locked from the inside. This made us feel unsafe. Sometimes at night, we'd hear noises and have to go outside to check, worried someone might enter in the middle of the night. We even had to rig something to tie the doorknob.
The unit itself is well-equipped, but the shower water pressure was insufficient, very weak, and the hot water wasn't hot enough, only lukewarm. We stayed for 5 nights, and they didn't provide extra garbage bags, luckily we brought our own. The bedding was clean, but there were always ants in the living and dining area. Even after wiping the table several times, the ants kept coming back. I hope the host makes some improvements to ensure guests feel more secure and comfortable during their stay.

The location is great, right opposite Legoland, and there's a supermarket and convenience store downstairs. However, the hotel's own restaurant closes very early, and the breakfast selection is quite limited. Among all the Ascott properties I've stayed at, this one offered the most basic experience – a 'super stripped-down' version. There was no laundry detergent above the washing machine, no umbrella or bathrobes in the wardrobe, and no information booklet. The cleanliness was also subpar; it wasn't clean under the sofa or the bed, and there was even a stray slipper.
This was our second stay since 2015, and while the rooms are spacious, the resort now feels dated. I was particularly upset by the cleaning policy; our room had no ”Do Not Disturb” signage provided, and housekeeping entered to clean while we were out for breakfast without our request.
As I prefer to secure my personal belongings before anyone enters, this lack of privacy was very uncomfortable. The resort has good beach access, but they must provide door tags and respect guest boundaries. A neutral experience overall compared to our first visit.

Very Good
It was a pleasant stay but expensive for the room facing the sea.
Date of stay: 25 June Room number: 1516 Pros: - lovely service especially from security. Very smiley, greeting you etc.. - huge room - decent breakfast - comfy bed - lovely sea view Cons - rooms are very dated through functional - hot water not really hot. - room amenities very basic. - pool was closed for maintenance - there is complementary parking but carpark a distance away from hotel building itself - the hotel is located within a duty free zone so when driving out, will be subjected to security checks, which is a bit of a hassle - many night clubs in the vicinity of the hotel so noise and the crowd may be a problem. May not be the most suitable hotel to stay with children though never felt unsafe
