Marwell Hotel Winchester South

7.8/10
Good

Lovely staff and great hotel location for anyone that’s a bit more car centric. Despite not using the on site facilities as much, the staff were lovely, friendly & helpful at any hour. The room was spotlessly clean, and had decent basic amenities, but the room I stayed in was starting to look a little tired. Decent value for money however, especially for the time of the year & a weekend.

This hotel is beautiful and just a 35-minute drive from Highclere Castle. It has a real sense of history. The facilities are great, although there's no air conditioning and the room felt a bit stuffy, but that's just the way it is sometimes. The hotel is right next to a vast estate with beautiful lawns, flowers, and trees, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. I hope to come back again!

I was a little bit disappointed staying at the Apollo hotel when I booked, i booked it for two adults and one child and when I got there there was only a double bed, they told me they would put in a single bed for me whilst I was out and when I got back to the hotel at 8:30pm there still wasn’t a bed they eventually at 10pm gave me a camp bed with springs missing for my four-year-old to sleep on I wasn’t happy, so in the end I ended up sleeping on the floor so my daughter could have the bed with her dad, it’s a real shame to see a hotel that I stayed in when I got married has gone downhill, there was a lot of dirty trays in the corridors on the way to the room, but on entrance of the hotel was beautiful,

Hotel was clean, and handy location for the station. The room was quiet and although no A/C, a fan provided was quite adequate even though it was a very hot day. Bathroom a bit tired though.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Fareham Solent. Fir this location a car would be ideal. There is a Shell Petrol Station not too far. All staff are friendly, always with a warm smiles. They offered me free parking. So if you do come by car don't forget to log vehicle registration details on the portal at the Front Desk (Check In). Breakfast was excellent choice of vegetarian or non vegetarian (healthy options available). Our room was on ground floor there was some draught coming through the window so I mentioned to the staff. Sadly the Jacuzzi was not working during our entire stay so (3 days). Lots of places to visit. I only gave 3 marks for amenities due to Jacuzzi not working. I highly recommend this hotel.

I have stayed here several times before as it is perfectly situated for those going on a cruise from Southampton. Clean room, friendly staff but room is ready for a refurbishment soon! Would have been nice to have been made aware that there was scaffolding outside the window (but I arrived after work had finished and left before anyone was there in the morning so not a problem). Breakfast was quite expensive for a continental one (IKEA next door had much better one and cheaper which I’ll use next time).

We stayed for a wedding, perfect location next to the station. Standout was the receptionist - super friendly and helpful, took our bags ahead of checking and allowed us to use the facilities to change for the wedding. Would recommend.

Hi there! Happy to come back to stay another night in your spa hotel surrounded by beautiful landscape and sea. Been there in February and come back this time in April and definitely I’ll come back again next year. Jess from reception called me and told me that we forgot a flowery shirts and the options to get it back - very helpful and supportive. Thank you all and see you next year 😉

The hotel do not make it clear that you have to pay for the swimming pool each time you use it. When you have children who are expecting to swim, this is simply not good enough. When booking it clearly says there are leisure facilities, including a swimming pool. It was only when checking in that we were told you had to pay £5 per person! We booked a ‘golf view’ room. When we arrived in the room there was a view of a bush, tree and bins with golf buggies in the distance come the morning, hardly a golf view in our opinion. Very disappointed children who were excited to be able to see a fairway! Breakfast was massively understaffed. The two staff members working were working very hard but with a full hotel, there should have been more staff working. It took far too long for glasses to be topped up to use for juice and the pastries ran out and were not replaced in time for us to eat. All staff members were lovely and worked hard but I feel management need to act upon previous reviews. We were told that the golf view issue was historical and an issue with Trip and how they advertise but if this was the case, why had nothing been done to address it? We were offered a drinks voucher as compensation but we refused as we had already purchased our non-alcoholic drinks for the evening. Perhaps not the best offer for a family! We asked if we could have our swim paid for instead and were told no because the leisure facilities were separate to the hotel??

Winchester Wessex Hotel by Sunday

Service was below average I woud say. Reception staff seemed uninterested in any questions raised. There was a mouldy smell, quite overwhelming upstairs in the common area on 1st floor where my room was situated. Facilities: they knew I was booked in for 4 nights yet only provided 4 tiny long life milk containers, enough for 1 cup. The quality of the mattress left a lot to be desired, very poor. The duvet was so thin that I felt very cold at night and had to go to the Mountain Warehouse in Winchester to buy a fleece top and long cotton dress to wear in bed. I didn't eat there as I was unsure about cleanliness. My room has clumps of dust visible under tables and other small things on the floor that I didn't touch. The one good things was that they upgraded my room to a larger room upon arrival without me asking for this.
