The room comfortably accommodates 6 people with three double beds, and the bedding is very clean. Each floor has a desk with charging points. The WiFi speed is decent. Breakfast includes sandwiches, toast, milk, coffee, cereal, and unlimited drinks. There's also a gas stove, which is great if you like to cook your own meals, like boiling an egg. The living room on the first floor is spacious enough for dozens of people to have meetings or chats. A major plus is its 8-minute walk to Southern Cross Station, located right in the city center on King Street.
**Environment:** Quiet, safe, and convenient.
**Cleanliness:** The bathroom is very clean, gets daily cleaning, and has no unpleasant odors.

Definitely not the best hostel I've been too but not the worst either. However I wouldn't recommend as a female guest. First, they take a photo of you upon check in. I don't know if this is customary in Australia but if it was up to me I wouldnt be willing to provide it (it is stated on trip.com upon booking though, I guess I just missed it). Second... I'm not making any claims here but inside the female bathrooms, there are tiny holes on the walls and doors. They could totally be harmless, but as someone living in Korea where those holes in public bathrooms mean something harmful to women... I wouldn't risk staying at such a place ever again now that I know.
Now for the facility review...
There was 1 working bathroom with 2 toilets & 2 shower booths on my floor, but it probably wasnt too crowded, I never had to wait to shower. Hot water came out just fine. Would give a 7/10 for cleanliness... There were 2 hair dryers only 1 of which was working.
The location is very good, walking distance to all CBD landmarks (very near South Cross Station & tram station right outside the door).
Which also means that it gets noisy at night with the noise from the train running. You can either close the window (which I heard is very heavy) and live with the stuffy smell, or leave the window open and live with the noise. Cant do both.
Amenities... what do I say? I got a key to enter the room & the bathroom. The beds werent numbered so you just get your room number and hop on whichever bed that seemed... fresh. A bed with a blanket, pillow, and curtain for privacy. That was all. They did provide free towels when I asked later. Inside the shared bathroom, there was 1 gel provided inside the shower booth, not sure if it was shower gel or shampoo...
I do believe there is plenty room for improvement. Starting from the holes in the shower booths..

:) Little drifter has the biggest kitchen I’ve seen among the hostels I stayed at. I stayed in both the 4-bed and 6-bed female dorms—both were clean. There was also enough hot water in the bathroom.
:( The door slammed shut really loudly. And the path outside the front door is difficult for luggage.
I stayed 3 nights but easily could stay the whole week there. Well-equipped kitchen, laundry (paid), clean bathrooms, free parking, and I was lucky to stay alone in my dorm room.
This was one of the best yha we have stayed at. The room was bare but that is to be expected. The amenities, by contrast, were excellent: Two well appointed kichens with nice pans and plenty of space; A roof area and multiple living room areas; an herb garden and plenty of recycling areas; and the games and TV area looked brand new and not old and worn out . The kids enjoyed it and so did we. Highly recommended.
Highly recommended!
We had a great stay in a comfortable and spacious room. Location is also great and public transport is close. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Value for money, the price is unbeatable for Australia.
The room was big, the bed was clean, I was glad I didn't miss the trip, the scenery was great, and there was a small balcony, I enjoyed it very much. The hotel has many services, although I didn't try them one by one, but they are heartwarming enough
Great location just a five minute drive to Woolies. The room is very clean with plenty of supplies like plates, bowls, tablewares, cotton swabs... The owner is pretty kind as well. Affordable and quality accommodations.
Lovely vibes, cool chill areas, community bar and community events plus the staff especially the lovely guy who booked me in was Amazing. However it's a very crappy old building with Nil working properly showers and broken toilets. I had 1 night in a nice female room which I barely even saw as I was out and Tried to rest at a 2nd booking being shoved into a mixed smelly weird noisy dorm on a top bunk with ****** knocking on the door at all hrs, one guy snoring and another twat on the phone I told off. Was stressful and I hadn't a Warm shower in a working functioning bathroom in 2 days. Not returning. If you like noisy rude tourists and old buildings with no lift carrying your bags everywhere and no showers, great!

Perfect stay for a simple trip. Stayed at the single bed room. The room is small but just enough for my short stay. Room was clean & it has everything you expected for a budget hotel: Tea/coffee, milk on the fridge and toileteries. Wifi speed is good for browsing (Approx 40-50Mbps) The only downside is: Their hotel key is using old technology and easily demagnetised. I happen to put it next to my Airpods and it loses the magnetism.

Great
I stayed in Box Hill motel between 3rd of Nov'23 - 5th of Nov'23. My husband and I arrived at Box Hill motel around 12-1pm. We were so exhausted as we took turn driving from Sydney - Melbourne. We drove from Sydney past midnight. Upon calling if we would be let in early, surprisingly it is allowed. Otherwise we would have slept in the car until check-in time if the room isn't ready yet. We got room no.1 and it was very clean. I didn't use the towel as I prefer to use my own towel, my husband also use his own towel. One of the hanging towel though had a snot on it and I put that towel aside despite we didn't use it. There were 3x plates in total and one of the plate was dirty and I assumed previous guest must have used this 1 plate and didn't wash it but instead just slipped it in between the clean plate. We used 2x plates for ourselves but I washed the 3x plates myself. Great Wifi speed too as I was able to complete a little bit of work from Room no.1. My parents always taught me to appreciate and respect people's places. Upon checking out, I saw Carol and OMG, she is so kind, friendly, down to earth and helpful. She was busy rolling people's luggage to their room. I remember my father always taught me the great businessman is not the one who always wanted to be served but the one who knew how to serve others first. There's a saying about ”servant leadership”. A great leader know how it feels to be at the bottom to observe, learn and serving others as well as better appreciate the top and experience various roles to understand the duties and responsibilities of each roles. THANK YOU Box hill motel team and Carol too for allowing us to stay at your beautiful clean and tidy place. We were able to sleep very soundly, hope nobody can hear us snoring :) I highly recommend Box Hill motel, Melbourne to anyone on a trip to Melbourne.
I love the atmosphere of YHA Melbourne. So many different travelers of all ages. Great open plan commercial kitchen that connects to the dining area so you feel connected to others while preparing food. Easy to use affordable lockers and just around the corner from Southern Cross Station making rail and airport connections so easy. Free trams outside the door for getting around Melbourne. The private en-suite room was a little bit expensive I thought at $192 for the night. Apart from that it suited my purpose of going to the Australian Open.

Great for stopover or budget conscious traveller as location is great, near railway station, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Well managed but apparently little to no interaction from staff. Believe it would be great if staff is more proactive in nurturing relationships with guests so as to give it more life and meaning. Just a suggestion but overall, value for money.
Hidden gem. This is now my go-to hotel near the airport whenever I need to stay overnight in Melbourne. Easy access, spacious and comfortable rooms, and a good breakfast.
Booked online, the staff all speak Chinese, the service environment is close to the bus station. There is a kitchen and ice room for free use. I often stay here. The staff speaks Chinese

I had a great stay at Best Western Crystal Inn. At first, I was told check-in was only after 2pm, but later the staff kindly called me and said I could check in early. That was very helpful! There is free parking on the ground floor, and my room was on the first floor, so it was quiet with no noise from cars. The location is very convenient — just a 10-minute drive to the City Centre. The room was big and comfortable, and the bathroom was especially large and clean. Thank you to the friendly staff for the good service!
