A group of middle-aged guys, in our 40s, reunited after thirty years. To relive those late-night dorm chats, we picked this hostel and booked a six-person room. It was really great! Seeing the bunk beds immediately brought back the memories. Not to mention they also had retro gaming consoles and a pool table. Absolutely fantastic, highly recommended for reunions!

The environment was great yesterday, and the overall decor was beautiful. There were areas for dining, reading, and working. The hotel provides toothbrushes, bottled water, and slippers. The location is right inside the Confucius Temple scenic area, which makes getting around incredibly convenient – everything is within walking distance.

Facilities: Very good! The beds are sturdy, and there's no noise when you turn over. The bathrooms are all-in-one with shower curtains behind the shower doors, so you don't have to worry about getting your clothes wet even if you walk in fully dressed. 😄😄😄 There are three washing machines and three dryers, so you don't have to wait long. Cleanliness: The bed sheets and duvet covers were very clean. I stayed for several days, and they cleaned my room and even seemed to change the bed curtain when I extended my stay today. Environment: It's close to the Line 2 subway station. There's a small shop across the street downstairs, and plenty of food options nearby and in the basement. Service: It was my first time staying in a hostel, and I didn't know my way around, but they kindly showed me the way. An auntie was also cleaning the common areas at 8 PM, so the service attitude is excellent. Staying at this hostel made me feel like I was back in college. There's a pool table in the lobby, and people play board games and such, creating a great atmosphere. There's a small stage with a guitar, but maybe there weren't any musician-singers staying here, as no one sang during my entire stay. 😂 Things I think could be improved: 1. The handle on the upper bunk bed by the wall near the door is not easy to use. It could be wider or have an increased grip area. 2. The laundry prices are a bit high. Aside from just spinning, the cheapest wash is 5 yuan. It could be lowered a bit. The dryer prices, however, are quite reasonable. 3. The speed of issuing invoices. I just remembered that I could participate in a lottery with an invoice. I'm not in a hurry for it, but if someone needs it for reimbursement, getting an invoice here might be slow.

I rarely find hostels like this; it was so comfortable and reassuring 😭 The hostel owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, making me feel almost embarrassed. She spoke so gently and thoughtfully, making me feel right at home. I chatted with her for a long time; she even lent me her umbrella when she mentioned it might rain, and offered me fruit from the table. She also recommended some good restaurants 😋. The room was spacious, incredibly clean and tidy, with a wonderful atmosphere. The cats were very friendly, and the location was great—there were breakfast stalls right outside, giving it a lively, local feel. It was a very comfortable stay, truly the best trip I've ever had. I'll definitely come back if I have the chance! I hope the hostel owner recognizes me then, hahaha~

At the cusp of spring and summer, as I turned 21, I embarked on my journey to explore the south. From Wuxi to Suzhou, then Shanghai to Hangzhou, my adventure culminated in Nanjing, and I'm so glad it did. I chose this hostel for its beauty and cleanliness, but it offered so much more than just a pretty and tidy space. It added laughter, humor, respect, and order to my trip. Each city nurtures a different way of life, and Nanjing's welcoming embrace made me feel exceptionally comfortable. Many hostels online boast old board games, unused musical instruments, and a less-than-young crowd. But here, the instruments are played, the glasses are polished, and the people are full of life. Even the worn board games are infused with energy. People clink glasses, gather around the microphone, and joyfully express themselves – that's what being young is all about. This is my dream hostel, where there's respect, seasoned travelers, peers, dreams, and anxieties. But it's precisely these emotions that can't weigh down the young spirit. From the rooftop balcony, I overlooked the street, with lively music drifting up from below. The clinking or gentle sipping of glasses, the well-used board games, and the chatter of people – it all made for an incredibly vivid day of my 21st year. In Nanjing, right here, welcome to Sawmill Hostel.

Highly recommend this place to all my girlies! I usually sleep with the lights on when I'm alone in a hotel room because I'm a bit wary, but I felt so safe and relaxed here every night. The environment is super clean, and even the common areas were quiet – no loud chatter, just polite conversations. The soundproofing between the washroom/lounge areas and the rooms is excellent; you can't hear hairdryers or showers from inside. All in all, a big recommendation!

I had a roommate named sky. We got along really well and he took me to a massage place next to the hostel. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The best part about this hostel is the nb market just below it. The staff also are very friendly and helped me order food on taobao. The bathroom and shower are very clean also. The people are mostly young people looking for work so not many hygiene issues from guest. Absolutely no issues. I would stay here next time I'm in Nanjing

This hotel boasts an excellent location, making it super convenient for getting around, whether you're taking a taxi or going shopping. The entire place is clean and odor-free. My room had great natural light, and the soundproofing was effective. Plus, the toiletries provided were comprehensive and good quality. The staff were all friendly and polite, and very efficient. The breakfast was tasty too. Overall, the value for money here is incredible. I genuinely recommend staying here!

Very nice hostel. The room was good and so quiet. The girl at the reception was so nice and speak english. I got the room for me alone, it was only 3 chineses girls doing pictures who slept in the hostel. The location is so great as it close to the main touristic place. The toilet was very clean. Nothing bad to declare.

GGuest UserThis place is truly amazing! It was my first time staying in a hostel, and it felt like being back in college. The cleanliness was outstanding; there was practically no dirt anywhere. The facilities were also very new. I really liked that you had to change into slippers when you entered, and most areas were carpeted. They had a study room, a vanity room, and showers. The signage and instructions were excellent too. Since the entrance is all stairs, they even help with luggage, so ladies don't have to worry about carrying heavy suitcases – service is top-notch! They have self-service washing machines and dryers, and there are time limits to ensure everyone gets a good night's rest and isn't disturbed by noise. The hair dryers also have a timer and automatically shut off, but you can ask the front desk for one if you need it longer – it's all designed to be considerate of other guests. Washing clothes is straightforward with different modes, and the dryer is timed. It's great value for money, especially if you save up laundry to do it all at once (you can also handwash in the shower area). If you're particular about hangers, I suggest bringing your own, or just using the dryer (though I wouldn't recommend drying bras with underwire as they might deform from the heat). Overall, my first great impression of Suzhou came from this hostel – it was super! I forgot to take pictures, so I've attached a tourist photo instead. It's very close to the subway station, about a 5-8 minute walk, and there are bus stops nearby. (If your suitcase is overweight, I don't recommend using Exit 9. Exit 4 has an accessible elevator to the street, though it's a bit further than Exit 9. Exit 9 has an incredible number of stairs, which I almost died trying to climb!). The locals are also incredibly warm and helpful. They often offer great advice without being asked; for example, when my friend and I were chatting, they'd proactively offer recommendations. When I was sighing at the stairs at Exit 9, a woman even told me there were many more stairs ahead and suggested I use a different exit. The local people here are truly wonderful!

GGuest UserQuite a good place to stay the first few days, the lady there gave me a banana and free breakfast on the first day as I usually leave the place early. However, the last night there was absolutely horrendous. I am not sure who was smoking in the public space and there was a nauseating strong smell of smoke all over the place, if you leave your room door open the smell will be in your room too. I had to quickly go to the toilet if not the smell would be on my clothes. If it was not late at night, I would have found myself another place to stay. I think there can be stricter control on no smoking in an enclosed space like hostel, this person is extremely inconsiderate. He/she can go outside to smoke instead. The female toilet sink was also so rusty and they should fix it. A good thing is they provide shampoo and body wash. To me it is just a place to wash up and sleep, is acceptable for budget solo travellers but I will not stay here again due to the bad experience with the smoke.

HHadiaaaI loved the location...everything was so walkable. The owner was nice, friendly and we even chatted she suggested me places to visit... However, I went around the new year the prices were high which makes sense. But overall, the stay was fine. I didn't like that one chinese girl apparently who were working or something and was trying to be bossy. Also, they have such a cuteeee dog. ❤️😩
