The hotel is right in front of the cathedral, the location is very central, and Diagon Alley is also within walking distance, which is not convenient for parking. 7.8 minutes after walking the street one night behind the parking lot is okay, parking during the day is very expensive. Welcome to us is a very old-fashioned British gentleman, introduced the room for 10 minutes, and encountered the butler-style service for the first time.

York’s famously curved Victorian railway station is just a few minutes walk away with connections all over the country including London and Edinburgh in just under two hours.Accommodation: Living accommodation is arranged over 3 floors. The house is centrally heated with fully adjustable cast iron column radiators in every room. At the back is a courtyard garden offering private outdoor space in the heart of the city, whilst to the front it is just a few steps to the Dean's garden - a great place for a picnic. WiFi broadband is available throughout the house.Ground Floor: Lounge - plenty of comfortable seating and a high definition TV with Netflix. Kitchen / Pantry / Diner - modern kitchen meets vintage dining area.Tiled Hallway - a tiled hallway with an array of coat hooks and a tourist information cupboard.The Knowledge: On a lectern in the dining area is a large red book entitled 'The Knowledge'. Invaluable!The Bedrooms: All bedrooms have wonderful views of the Minster and adjacent Dean's garden. All are equipped with - hairdryers, towels, mirrors, luggage racks, and bed-side tables and lights. All bedding and linen is high quality cotton.Middle floor: Bedroom (1) - original fireplace, large king-sized double bed and walk-in wardrobe, furnishings include antique secretaire, antique George III chairs , gilded trumpet candelabra.House Bathroom - bath, shower, hand-basin, toilet, and heated towel rail.Bedroom (2) - very similar to bedroom 1. but with a free-standing wardrobe and dresser. Top Floor: Bedroom (3) - in the eaves of the house, original fireplace, a double bed, rare walnut knee-hole dresser with shield mirror.Second Bathroom - small but perfectly formed wet-room with an electric shower, toilet and hand-basin.Bedroom (4) - single wooden sleigh bed, folding single bed (will be made up on those occasions when there is a full compliment of 8 guests), walk in wardrobe with cupboard to stow luggage. Cellar: Laundry facility - washer, dryer, ironing.Boring but important. Safety: The safety of all our guests is of paramount importance to us and whilst we ensure that the house is a safe as is reasonably possible, it is not 'toddler-proof', and we caution parents against bringing very young children (below the age of 4) who would need constant supervision on the stairs and in the kitchen. The Elderly: There are 2 sets of winding wooden stairs to reach the upper floors which might prove difficult for the elderly and infirm (and hazardous for the very young).Parking: For those guests arriving by car there is a free car-parking space for one vehicle, 5 minutes walk from the house. Additional spaces are available in the York City Council car parks which are also close by. Further information on parking and directions will be given in our 'Welcome Package'. Convenient location. Because I was staying alone, I was given room 10, which was relatively small. The window was the outdoor seating of the restaurant, so I couldn't open the curtains. There seemed to be an exhaust device outside the window, so there would be some constant noise before 10 pm. The supplies are complete and you can also iron your clothes. Because it is an old building, there is no elevator, so you need to be careful if you have heavy luggage.

1. A very wonderful hotel with a long history. The first floor is a bar, the accommodation is on the second floor, and the breakfast is on the first floor next to the garden. The room conditions are okay, but it feels hygienic and not as noisy as expected. There is a courtyard on the first floor. When the sun is out, many people sit outside and drink beer. It feels very good. 2. The hotel can park for free. After 200 meters, turn left from the hotel entrance to the intersection in the direction of York Old Town and pay attention to the sign on the left. Turn in and you will arrive at the backyard of the hotel, and then just go to the bar and say something.

Simply put, it really exceeded expectations. Because I thought it was a fast hotel, but overall the service was good and the family room facilities were relatively complete. From the train station, I walked around half a city. When I left the station, I turned left and passed the cathedral, and then turned right to the meat shop street. The hotel was opposite the city wall. The overall experience is good.

We were pleasantly surprised at how cute the Moxy was. The room was clean, well designed, has a smart TV, good mister view, close to the important places like the Shambles, and the ghost walks, and the minster. It's an older Holiday Inn. The cleanliness was good, though the bathroom was incredibly tiny, and the elevators were showing their age. The front desk staff were great, and they offer free luggage storage. A crucial tip: when taking the bus from the train station to the hotel, make sure to tell the driver your stop beforehand, otherwise, the bus might easily skip it!

For the money the room was top notch big plus points being a great shower, kitchenette with fridge and the rooms own iron and board . Although it feels like a very old house, it's been beautifully maintained! The house is absolutely stunning! All the furniture, bathroom fixtures, and hardware are of high quality. The towels are incredibly soft, so I loved them. It seems to have been renovated. (Before moving in, I was worried about the lack of cleanliness and darkness in old houses, but there were absolutely no issues here.) The breakfast was also excellent, and the staff were very nice.

A single hostel for one person. There is a toilet and a washstand in the house, but there is no bathroom. The public bathroom is clean and has a lot of privacy. However, the staff helped me clean up a room in advance and let me check in early. There is no supermarket nearby. The train station is 25 minutes away. The garden in the hotel is very beautiful. York is very quiet, and the people I met along the way are very friendly. I couldn't swipe my card in the public toilet on Butcher Street, but a local brother saw that I swiped his card and let me in. Thank you for being such a good person! Lovely period hotel. When I arrived at the hotel no one was at reception which I found out was because poor Nadia was having to do everything. I had to come down later and inform her that I had parked my car in the car park (nb £14/day). The room was lovely big and clean. Do be aware though there is no lift and there are additional steps to get to the room and our room had 2 steps to get to the en-suite. The shower was massive.  There was no tea bags, and only 2 coffee pods with no explanation whether they were decaf or not. The tv remote would not switch the tv on or off. There were 2 bottles of water in the room but they needed to be paid for £2.50 each. For the price we paid for the hotel in advance too I feel we should have had more/better amenities in the room.

The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station. Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor. Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out. Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though. I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

Not close to the city center, but the bus stop is at the door, which is quite convenient. The boss is nice and the public area is cleaned very clean. The sanitary condition is OK, cleaner than most homestays, but there are spider webs behind the TV. The windows are not soundproof, and we sleep unaffected, but if we are afraid of noise, it is best not to face the street room. The most dissatisfied was that I found that the room was a semi-ensuite, the toilet was not in the room, and there was a shower in the room, but there was no message prompt when booking.

We stayed here for a wedding. The room itself was prefect. (Family room) Large bathroom and very spacious bedroom area. We had a mini fridge with water and milk in, tea coffee facilities etc. iron, hairdryer. Unfortunately we didn’t think the beds or pillows were very comfy. Very large bed but it was 2 beds put together and me and my partner could feel the gap between the beds! Not what we expected. The venue is absolutely stunning! We had the best time. All staff were friendly polite and welcoming. The food was excellent. We had pork/chicken/beef over 2 courses then a cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious!

Room was nice and not too far walk from the city centre. But after checking my bank account the day after I noticed the hotel had taken £50.00 from my account. When I called to check, I was told it was a deposit to protect against damage to the room. I was not made aware this was being taken and did not give any authority for them to take the payment. I found this very concerning and I now have to wait a few days to receive the refund. So please be warned before booking..

The boss and his wife were warm and thoughtful, helping to move things, because they checked out later by train, and they readily agreed.
