My wife and I had to travel from Cairns to Townsville as our Daughter was there while our grandson was in the N ICU at Townsville Hospital. I chose the place as the photos online showed a modern well presented appartment that would have been perfect for us to relax and talk and decompress after a very stressful few weeks. We arrived and were checked in only to find that the appartment was sub standard by a long shot, the place had zero resemblance to what was advertised and was not clean, the furnishings looked as though they were sourced from garage sales, they had stains and were haphazardly arranged, I had to iron a shirt and had to kneel on the floor to do so as the ironing board was one for a bench top, but none of the benches were close enough to a power point. The balcony was dirty and the living room window had the drum and chain for a blind but the blind was missing. I am writing this as I wanted to give others an opportunity at a real review of the place as the price we paid was at a level that is in the upper range for Townsville but we definitely didn’t get what we were expecting. I feel if you are going to advertise something and imply that it will be at a certain level of comfort then the product should live up to the promise.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful from the start. They always had time to listen to any queries and helped to make our Townsville experience very enjoyable and memorable! Our room and service was excellent and very comfortable. Our position for exploring the sights was so convenient and central. Our room was clean and quiet and we could control the room temperature as we wished. We would definitely recommend this motel to others coming to Townsville. Our warmest thanks to the staff and we wish them our best wishes for the future.

The high points of this hotel is its location and if you are fortunate enough to gain a room overlooking the water, the view is fantastic particularly at night. This is where it ends. Never in any hotel that I have stayed in either in Australia or around the World have I ever been asked at breakfast whether or not I have a reservation, particularly when it is part of your hotel package. On arrival at the restaurant check in, the young girl looked at us and walked away. When she finally came to meet us, we were advised if we had no reservation for the buffet breakfast then to wait downstairs. No alternative was given. even though we found out later that we could have used the buffet and sat in an adjoining area. We then went to the front desk who consulted with the staff and we immediately obtained a table. When I spoke to the other girl on duty and told her of our experience in other hotels, she stated 'that is a good story'! Totally condescending. Exceptional service was provided by Rebecca and the older lady cleaning the tables. The two younger girls require a lot more training, and a customer service mentality. The following day our room had not been serviced - wet towels and no toiletries. After two phone calls and then a visit to the main reception, both were obtained. On the last day no internet service was available. The carpets need replacing as full of stains and the bathroom is certainly below par - huge crack in basin. Not the best stay I have ever had.

This hotel was ideal for our 1 night stay en-route to Cairns. The rooms are quite spacious, well furnished and very clean. The bathroom was of similar quality - good shower with ample space and good pressure. The bed was firm, but very comfortable. Although it is in the CBD, there was little to no street noise in the room. It is a 2 minute walk to a central food mall in which there are several good restaurants. You could walk to The Strand, but it is more realistically a short drive. The hotel was initially a bit hard to find because its entrance (and signage) is on the side street rather than the main one, but all OK once you arrive,. There is off street parking but the garage is not locked at night. We would be happy to return to the Clarion and have no reservations in recommending it to others.

If I could give this a lower rating I would. I wasn’t told the outdoor parking for an extra $15 was 200m away until I arrived at reception. The rooms are dark and dingy, half the lights don’t work, worn carpet everywhere, paint peeling off the walls, ceiling and kick boards, the elevators are just plain dangerous. I forgot to return the parking remote when I returned the keys to the more often than not unmanned reception and when I was called that afternoon to remind me about the remote I was advised I would be charged another night and be reimbursed. As I was a bit out of town I agreed to drop it off the next morning, to be then charged $100! I returned the remote the next morning to be told it would take a few hours to be reimbursed. I called back the next day as it had not been refunded to be scolded by the receptionist that I would not have been told that, that reception cannot do refunds and I should have read the check in sheet properly. This woman was extremely rude and condescending and then hung up on me. NEVER stay here.

If you are here in Townsville, choose this one, don’t hesitate, because this one has a fully functioning air conditioner. If there is no air conditioner in Townsville, or the temperature of the air conditioner is locked, it will keep you all night. Can't sleep at night. The girl at the front desk was very enthusiastic.

The room we were allocated (room 89, level 2, tower C) was unacceptable in regards to health and safety standards. We were very disappointed to find on entering the apartment had an offensive smell, carpet stains throughout and overall unmaintained. The fridge was obviously damaged and consequently not in working order, there was a large puddle on the floor making it very slippery and dangerous. The fridge was not operating correctly. Our family was unable to store groceries safely in the fridge and consequently had to spend more money eating out. My husband and I were concerned with the air conditioners in all bedrooms. They were very noisy and obviously not working correctly as they left marks from the wall onto the carpet. This is a health and safety concern. I feel the cleanliness of the apartment was not up to standard as evident with photographs of cockroaches in the apartment. The initial key we were given at check in was to someone else’s apartment. I went to our allocated room and let myself into a room that was already rented out to 3 young men. After the confusion and embarrassment we were given keys to room 89. Immediately after entering the apartment my husband approached requesting a room change. We were told there was no availability due to the long weekend. This was the case with us trying to find alternative accomodation, unfortunately meaning we had no choice but to spend a very uncomfortable night in this apartment. I had requested a full refund and was told by front desk ladies that this would be sorted. I have emailed twice and have yet to hear back from management.

We upgraded to these Apartments from a motel. Well it was with it. This is like a 5 star feel. The unit we had had new tv. Dishwasher Washing machine. Clothes dryer. Large sized fridge. Etc. Everything worked great. I must say the bed was so comfortable, this alone was with the money! Excellent parking with easy access lift All in all a great value place to stay for business.

We were very impressed with our modern one bedroom apartment at Central Kensington whilst spending 4 nights in Townsville. The lovely clean spacious "ground floor" apartment had all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay including a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, a washing machine & dryer and a large private balcony that we made good use of every evening. Good free secure undercover parking was provided. Could not fault this apartment.

We visited with 2 other groups of friends. Around 20 minutes after we ordered some of the meals came out, we were missing 3 pasta dishes. We asked if they were coming and was told yes they would be there shortly, we waited another half hour still nothing - we were told again that we were next up. 15 minutes later a 'manager' came over confused by the order and the dockets and said that something was wrong. We explained what was missing and he informed us that 1 of our choices wasn't available. He then went away. A further 15 minutes later I went to the bar to check what was happening and the manager looked like he was still tying to work out the dockets. I explained at this stage we don't care about your dockets we just want to be fed, can we just get 3 lasagnes if that makes its easier. So he said ok I'll order that now. So up to that point nothing had even been ordered for us. We waited a further 20minutes to be served very bland lasagne, burnt cheese on the bottom, with 1 of them needing to be sent back as it was still frozen!!! The management did offer us a refund and 3 free drinks - which we had to follow up on. But it totally ruined our evening and catch up with friends. We were very patient as with the current covid staff shortages we know things are tough, but it was the way it was all dealt with was the problem. We were told for nearly 2 hours our food was coming and it hasn't even been ordered. Stick to just your pizza menu until you can offer a full service correctly.
