|7.92km from city centerI stayed at the property before Christmas and I never stayed at a property where the GM has been so visable during our stay. I stayed 5 nights at the hotel and I saw him every morning talking to any guest in the breakfast area and I spoke with him all 5 days and always remembered what I told him from the previous day. The staff is a reflection of his leadership and I wish I could steal him to my company because I can see firsthand how much he cares about the property and his employees. The desk associate I checked in and out with was very friendly even during her explanation on COVID restrictions at the hotel. Even though this property is following restrictions, the staff seems to go out of their way to please their guests. A better place to stay than a full Marriott hotel where you are just a name on a screen to them.

|0.34km from city centerMy awful experience started when trying to call to book a room. There’s literally no way to just call and get the front desk. Instead I’m forwarded to their call center where someone tried suggestive selling no less than a dozen separate things to me. This was a room for my dads wedding as a place to crash. What should have been a quick call turned into 30 minutes of flowery words and the slowest service I’ve ever had. Were they polite? Absolutely. But it shouldn’t take so long for one booking. My aunt booked a room that smelled like pee. The manager said they didn’t smell anything, but when my aunt returned to the room, one of the couch cushions was ‘mysteriously’ gone. Did they get a discount? Nope. They got the $17 resort fee removed and that’s all. The remote on my tv was also dead, and no one answered the front desk the three times I called to get new batteries. When I checked out and mentioned it, the desk attendant made it seem like my fault for not going downstairs to face to face talk to someone for the batteries. The hotel is dingy, outdated to the point that the carpets look like 80’s roller rink carpeting, and the phone system is the single worst set up program I’ve ever experienced in my life. $350 for a total dump. I’d rather stay in a motel 8 next time.

|3.6km from city centerMy husband is traveling across the U.S. for business. I reserved a room on the Red Roof Inn Chicago Joliet website. They offered a Red Hot Deal rate and I reserved that for him, as he would be arriving late and would only be staying the one night. The Hotel website states they are 100% Smoke Free. That is a lie. I called ahead after making the reservation and informed the front desk man that my husband would be arriving between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and to please not give his room away. The man stated he would be there at that time and would make note of it. When I spoke again to my husband this morning, he stated that he arrived at 11:00 p.m. and that when he entered his room, it reaked of cigarette smoke and was filthy. He said he asked the man at the front desk if his was not supposed to be a smoke-free room and the man agreed, but said that was all they had available right then. So, my husband, being tired from a long day of driving, went back to the room. He said that the thermostat didn't work in the room and that he tossed and turned but that by 2:30 the heat in the room and the fact that the mattress and bed sheets reached of smoke, he just couldn't take it any more. My husband has a smoke allergy, so this just compounded the problem for him. He gathered his things, approached the front desk at 2:30 in the morning and there was no one around. He left. When we spoke this morning, and told me what had happened, I told him I'd contact them for a refund. After waiting on hold, and speaking with the front desk in Joliet, they patched me through to Guest Relations and they are requiring my husband to call in before they'll issue us a refund, which he will do, but he'll have to make a stop on his trip to do so. I chose this location for my husband because of the great 4/5 reviews on Trip Advisor. Please be aware that this location is not 100% Smoke Free as advertised, is filthy, the Red Hot Deal means you get a smoker room (even though your statement will say Smoke Free) and that they will hassle you over a return - $53.23 with tax.

|8.12km from city centerHotel Management decided the best time to test the Fire Alarm would be before 8am. So, it went off twice before 8am and then continuously from 8:05am to 8:25 am. After contacting the front desk to confirm that it was 'just a test' and not a real emergency, I was told that the company hired to perform the test didn't know how to turn off the alarm. So, what would be your confidence that Hotel Management would be able to protect guests during a real emergency? Never again.

|7.86km from city centerWhile my family and I were having breakfast the morning of Aug. 21st, there was a conversation going on at the table next to us. It was between the owner and/or manager of the hotel and the contractor doing the renovation work for him. It was quite clear that the owner/manager was refusing payment to the contractor. It was clear to us during this conversation that the owner/manager was reneging on part the agreement. The contractor was simply asking for a partial payment that the owner/manager had promised him and now won't pay. Make no mistake, we heard the entire conversation. We felt badly for the contractor whose crew seemed to be doing a good job. We were there for 4 days and 3 nights and the work going on was of no inconvenience to us for our stay there. I don't believe I will be staying there again, even as nice as our stay, and as pleasant the staff were. I am also going to report this incident to Marriott. I think they should know about it. Please don't try to give me an explanation concerning this situation. It should have never happened in front of guests.

The hotel did not allow us to cancel the reservations so we could go elsewhere with a pool or hot tub. They also would not discount the room. |7.34km from city centerDirty, old run down hotel. Looks like a hotel from the 70's that was refurbished (?) some time ago and never maintained. Not connected to the ****** - you have to walk across a parking lot, down a sidewalk, across the ****** parking lot and into the Hollywood ******. Then you have a long walk into the actual ******. They do not tell you that on their website. I should have walked out when I first arrived - the mats were filthy at the front door. When I was standing at the check in desk, three people were in an adjoining room looking at a computer screen, two of the three looked up and saw me and let me stand there for 3-5 minutes before one of them got up and asked if I needed something. They were dressed in blue tee shirts, jeans and tennis shoes - not professional looking at all. I should have walked out again at this point - but I didn't. The front desk did not provide me with the first floor handicap accessible room that I reserved several days earlier. I arrived at 1 PM and the front desk manager said I could check in and come back at 3 PM or so to pick up my key. When I returned, they provided me with a second floor room. When I brought it to their attention that I had reserved a first floor handicap accessible room, they were very flippant and said ”I asked you when you checked in if you wanted two queen or a king size bed and you did not tell me you needed handicap”. I asked if they could see my reservation in their computer system - yes they could but because I did not tell them to their face that I needed a handicap accessible room (even though my reservation stated it), they gave the room(s) to others. There was no attempt to make it right or apology by the front desk manager - they were very flippant and rude. We ended up in a room on the second floor. Elevator door only opened part way and in order for the door to close, you had to jump up and down. The halls were dirty - looked like they had not vacuumed in several days. When we attempted to use our keys, only one worked. Went back to the front desk and they acted as though you were bothering them to get the key programed. Air conditioning in the room was not adequate - had temperature set to 68 and it blew hot air. Water temp in shower was warm at best. ”Hot breakfast” consisted of eggs and bacon, cold cereal, toast, juice, coffee, shriveled apples and the yogurt was gone and they did not have any more. They did have Quaker Oats, however, no microwave to cook them. When I inquired, they told me to use the microwave in my room. Needless to say, we did not eat there. Don't waste your money - stay at a hotel off site - probably cheaper, cleaner and nicer people.

|8.83km from city centerTrip Advisor doesn't usually let me down, but our experience here was nowhere near a 4 star rating. Check in was easy enough, but went downhill from there. Stairwell upon heading up to the room are dirty and in need of refresh. Our first room smelled like it just walked out of a 4/20 convention. 2nd room was better, but noisy A/C, curtains had paint or caulking wiped on them. The shower faucet just spun around in circles, so no idea where hot or cold might be. No product in the shower dispensers. Hotel breakfast was poor as well, with the one thing that looked decent - the pancake machine - not working. Bananas were well past their expiration date. Granny smith apple was delicious. This sounds like one ”of those reviews” - nitpicky, etc. - but I have a high tolerance for little indiscretions and rarely give poor reviews - but this place deserves it.

Updated decor, even liked the colors, curtains and bed spreads. But possibly the best part is likely very specific to this location: we got here late, 11:30 at night, after being on the road for 7 1/2 hours. Five of us in our group. We were promised a room that would sleep 5, which they don’t actually have bigger than 4 person rooms. They people at the desk made it right, gave us an additional room for free because they wanted to make it right and didn’t want to turn us out at that time of night to try to find a place that had rooms to accommodate five. Thank you to the staff. We are so grateful and pleased to give you a glowing review!

We stayed in a ground floor room facing the parking lot - away from interstate. Room was clean and quiet. We did notice a stain on our secondary blanket after it was turned back. It was small and dark - looked like a dried blood stain. We removed the blanket and inspected the rest of the bed and it was very clean. In the early a.m. We experienced a brief but horrible sewer smell coming from our bathroom. But no other issues. In room coffee pack sucks - pretty horrible tasting. Bring your own if you can.

We had a room next door to friends we were traveling with, so I appreciated that they worked to have us near each other. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good (better than many other hotels). The room itself was nice - couch that could be pulled out to a bed - we didn't need the extra bed, but the couch was actually pretty comfy. Lots of shelving/storage since it's considered for extended stay. Full size fridge. Staff was generally very friendly and helpful. The cons - Hilton honors points only accrues at half the rate - I didn't realize this ahead of time and it isn't a problem with the hotel but rather the brand. Disappointing because I really thought this was about to become my preferred hotel within the brand for family travel. We also had some people at the hotel who were smoking **** at the hotel (legal in Illinois) but it stunk and even would travel through vents to other rooms. They did put signs on doors reminding of the non-smoking policy, but it felt like we were going to get charged for smoking when we weren't rather than addressing the issue at the source (and you could narrow down the source by walking through halls!) I assume this isn't a regular issue, so would consider staying here again because the hotel itself was very nice. Especially helpful if you are traveling with family because the rooms are large.

There is a gym, I don’t remember if there is a pool (in case you’re into that). Plenty of places to eat lunch and dinner, including a decent pub-style restaurant right across the parking lot. Prices are fair. Overall good stay.
