4 of us went to Scotland for a golf trip playing Ladybank, Gleneagles and 3 course around St Andrews - The Kittocks, the Castle Course and the Old Course. We wanted somewhere quite close but didn't want to pay too much as this was a late replacement for a trip to Portugal where we had already lost money due to Covid. Premier Inn prices were very god and with the Brewer's Fayre on site we decided this was ideal. Checked in late on a Friday night with no trouble. Room was perfect. Plenty of storage space, comfy bed, decent TV, free wifi (which was very good speed), nice powerful shower and plenty of electrical sockets! Ample free parking too. Covid processes in place meant room was not tidied whilst there but that was not an issue for 4 nights. Reception were more than happy to supply extra pillow, tea, milk etc. Only minor issue was the room was quite cold and only on last day did I realise the window was actually not closing properly hence the chill but was nothing to spoil the stay. Food and staff in the Brewer's Fayre were very good too - reasonable prices, good choice and friendly staff.

My own fault I suppose - I asked for a quiet room! The room on the second floor was spacious, well appointed and indeed quiet but being at the top of the shop the windows were 6ft off the floor with a view of surrounding treetops. Minor issues with shower and charging point were soon sorted out. Staff exceptional, friendly and efficient. Food exceptional, except surprisingly in Scotland, the porridge which was undercooked. Some readers will remember that I used to run 4 star hotels so there is always something I’d change. At Balbirnie House these were almost insignificant. Again the acid test - will I stay again, yes happily. On the whole a pleasant experience- good value for money too.
