This hotel is considered to be the most cost-effective hotel in this trip. The hotel is comfortable and the price is close to the people, and St. John's is a very characteristic city with a very good ecological environment. Driving in the suburbs, you can see the sika deer squatting leisurely. The location is right in the heart of the city. The fly in the ointment is that the hotel parking is not free.

My partner Gerard Collins and I operate Go and Write!, a writing retreat and travel company. We have hosted retreats in Ireland, Scotland, and Italy, but also much closer to home, in Saint Andrews and Saint John here in New Brunswick, as well as in Lunenburg in Nova Scotia. In January 2020, we hosted a writing retreat at Chipman Hill Suite's 71 Sydney Street location in Saint John, New Brunswick. We booked the entire building, a gorgeous Victorian Mansion built in 1891, and it was a perfect venue for our purposes. We hosted several other writers for the retreat, and each of their rooms was self-contained, with their own ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes. This allowed participants to remain ensconced in their rooms to stay focused on their writing if they were on a roll, and was economical for those who wanted to cook their own meals as well. That being said, when you're in Saint John, it's REALLY hard not to take advantage of the exceptional pubs and restaurants. We worked with Sarah LeBlanc to pull this retreat together, and she was accommodating and thoughtful - Sarah not only understands the particular needs of writers, she anticipates them. The bedrooms are all beautiful and unique, each with their own historic personality, and the common areas are spacious and well-furnished. There are a couple of pianos (properly tuned!), and the dining area was perfect for the group writing workshops we held during our four night stay. There's also a fabulous solarium/rotunda where Gerard held one-on-one meetings with each writer to talk about their projects - it was a comfortable and inspiring spot for these individual chats. Chipman Hill Suites has several great properties besides 71 Sydney Street, and it's my top recommendation to come-from-aways. It's our favourite place stay each time we come to Saint John.

Although the room is not new, the facilities are good, the sea is next to it, and parking is very convenient. The parking tickets given by the hotel can be freely entered and paid without paying. The booked room does not include breakfast. The buffet on the first floor can be paid at your own expense. The semi-buffet is more than 16 Canadian dollars per person. The baby is free. It is very cost-effective and the breakfast is very rich.

The window view should be considered very good in this small town. If the weather is good in the morning, you should still see the sunrise. The room is the normal Samsung standard, but the curtain leaks very seriously, and the light from outside at night causes the room to be very bright. Breakfast is a buffet and cannot be taken out of the restaurant. Considering the new crown, I did not eat breakfast. The hotel is holding a wedding, except for the front desk, no masks are seen, but the whole city seems to pay little attention to epidemic prevention. In short, the room itself is very good at this price and it is worth staying in.

This was the former colonial Inn and let me tell you, it has been upgraded to a more modern/cozy atmosphere. I had my surprise birthday party here and was blind folded on the way and I had no idea, when unmasked, where I was. The room was gorgeous, with a huge comfy bed and jucuzi tub. My best friend had a conjoined room and was also amazing with a giant comfy bed. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and the staff just the same. There was a lady I forget her name, Sheila or sherry maybe that gave me some fresh hot towels before heading for a swim . I'd stay here again anytime !

We had to do an emergency trip to get our daughter from university because they were all being evicted due to the covid virus. We were glad that they were open there were still breakfast options even if not hot breakfast during this time because of skeleton staff. Staff were absolutely amazing and even though this is a scary time to be in public, you would not know by their body language or verbally, they were very professional and made us feel at ease during a stressful time.

One night stay. Check in was fast and the desk person friendly. Room was disappointing. Very dated. Rug seemed to be dirty because it was darker than the edge. Bed was comfortable but had a strong bleach smell..Maybe comforting to some to know that they are sanitized. Heat/AC was very noisy. The room had coffee/tea area and fridge. Breakfast was delivered to our door, which was nice. Received an email the night before to remind us that we hadn’t placed our order. After staying in about 8 different hotel during the “the time of COVID bubble “. This was impressive. All in all if your heading to Saint John to shop it’s an ideal place to stay.

We booked this spot near the start of an extended trip throughout Atlantic Canada and enjoyed the experience compared to comparable properties. We found the room well maintained with new flooring, nicer towels and a nice distant view across a huge salt marsh to the Irving Nature Park from all the rooms. We drove thru a tree lined residential area to reach the property. It appears the owners might live on site. The breakfast, which we don't normally bother with at chains in this price point, included warm hard-boiled eggs, fresh made coffee and a better selection of breads and pastries than normal. We suspect the owners were the ones making us feel welcome and we'd encourage others to give this property a try.
