The Hanoi Lucien Hotel and Spa or San Grand Hotel as it is now known is a delightful hotel. It is an oasis in a mad, mad city. A place in a city of over 4 million scooters where you can really relax and enjoy peace and quiet. The location of the hotel is terrific. A street or two away from the lake and right smack in the centre of the Hoan Kiem old city. This hotel has to be one of the best places to come to peace and where one can enjoy the peace. It is also probably one of the best places and certainly one of the most pleasant places I have stayed. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few minor shortcomings but these are more than compensated by the perfect location and the terrific personnel. For one the view from our room was certainly not the reason we liked this hotel, neither were the teeny weeny slippers or the soap or shampoo bottles which were not attached to the walls in the shower… no certainly not, but what makes this hotel so terrific is the proactive, enthusiasm and friendly attitude of just about every single member of the staff in this hotel, including the management. From the friendly happy greeting of the ladies that made up our room, to the two young men that greeted us when we entered the hotel and carried our luggage up to the room, or who escorted us up to the dining room. We were equally delighted by the incredible assistance we were given by all the members at the reception desk. Both my wife and I particularly remember Ruby, and that young lady at the travel desk, but their colleagues were also absolutely terrific and we are very sorry that we do not know their names as they did not have name tags and their names also deserve to be mentioned here, but will have to remain anonymous. The restaurant on the tenth floor was marvellous. The view over the city and the lake as well as the food and the service was top notch. Every whim and fancy was taken care of by the very able staff. Our waiter even remembered what we had ordered two nights previously, and when we had any questions or concerns about the wine or the food they were very ably answered by the very pleasant and smart manager, Jeff, who was a most delightful and helpful person. The menu was varied and the food we had was delicious and here again the service was like in the rest of this hotel… top rate. I cannot use or even find enough superlatives to describe this staff as they more than compensate for any very minor shortcomings this hotel may have. The staff were pleasant, enthusiastic, pro-active helpful, informative and professional. An absolute credit to whomever set up this team. But wait there is more. The dining room was also the breakfast room so for breakfast we also enjoyed the same view over the Hoan Kiem area, the lake and Hanoi. The breakfast was also varied and simply delicious. This hostel is in the middle of the old town but in a quiet street. The two lovely girls are very helpful with everything. They offer laundry and a nice balcony. The cosy room was very clean. Although we are grandparents we didn't feel too old for this hostel. We could leave our luggage there during our tour. Come here, you will like it!

The room is nice and clean. It is located in the busiest commercial district on the north side of Hoan Kiem Lake. It is very convenient to go out to the night market and eat snacks. The hotel also has a spa, but I didn't experience it.

Small bottle of water included and fridge is stocked with beer, pop and large water you can purchase. The bed is firm, air conditioning works. Bathroom amenities include a toothbrush which was great. The only thing they don’t have is hair conditioner (not sure any in Vietnam do). Breakfast is included and caters to locals and North Americans as they will fry you up eggs. The hotel can arrange private transport from the airport for $14 Cdn per person which is great.

This hotel’s location is amazing. Right in the center of all the action. So many shops and street vendors. Close to the water puppet theater 🎭 and the lake. Unfortunately, we had to leave this hotel earlier than planned and although we had a non refundable room, the hotel was nice enough to give us a free taxi ride to the airport. The rooms are nice and clean, very comfortable. Not the view that we thought we would had, but spent most of the day and evening outside exploring. I would highly recommend this hotel.

There are delicious pho restaurants nearby within walking distance from bus number 86. There are dessert shops, and Hoan Kiem Lake and the old town are within walking distance, so I think the location is very good. The bed was spacious and the sheets were clean. There was no problem with the water pressure in the shower in the room on the 5th floor on the first night, but the water pressure in the shower in the room on the 4th floor from the second night onwards was quite weak. I felt it was a little difficult to open and close the locks in both rooms unless I was used to it. There was an air conditioner and a fan, and the refrigerator cooled well. The staff, both male and female, were very kind and helpful. If you ask for towels, they will change them every day. We also have toothbrushes, shampoo, body soap, and hand soap. If I have a chance, I would like to stay there again.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. The best service at a hotel I've ever received. From the fruit and juice as the welcoming, to the kind greetings each time when walking in and to the takeaway breakfast from my 5am early check out - the staff at Hanoian Lakeside were great! I even struggled to find a money exchanger and the staff personally walked me over there. Hotel room was spotless clean! Location was also fantastic. I would highly recommend and would definitely come back here.

The room was booked and paid at the Family Transit Hotel. The room put us in shock, where the hotel is located too. And we moved to the Dragon Airport Hotel, regardless of the money already spent. Compared to the previous one, it was a super place to stay, although the noise of the track gave you information. Thanks to hotel staff for helping to transport things from a previously booked Family Transit Hotel. In the Dragon Hotel... clean. You feel safe. Bed is comfortable. I don't want to say that good breakfast, but there is no place to eat nearby. In general, in terms of food and in the rest of Hanay much poorer than Hoshimin. Near the airport we have cost a lot of hotels because of the situation. And this seemed to us the best option. If you are a tourist with claims, there is not one hotel near the airport that will not suit you.

Our group of 6 stayed 3 nights at peridot. We had some hiccups which was of no fault by the hotel..( like losing one luggage from our group from our cruise, and tour operator etc). The hotel went above and beyond to help us resolve our problems. Special thanks to Plum, who was so nice and friendly and was so professional and efficient to resolve issues for us. Hotel has plenty of restaurants and street food everywhere and is very near the lake. Beautiful pool and sky bar too.Everyone was very friendly and helpful, from the bellboys to the front desk staff. They even gifted my mom who has a bad knee a herbal compress from the spa. Small details and kind gestures made our stay here so special. 5 stars to the peridot team!

A great hotel in the Old Quarter and very convenient for sightseeing in Hanoi. Situated near beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake and its lovely gardens, trees and temples. Very reasonable rates- value for money. The rooms are comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Clean towels and water ere delivered daily. The breakfast buffet was good and you could also order from the breakfast menu so there was lots of choice. The staff make this hotel. David the manager is very welcoming and extremely helpful as is his staff, particularly Henry and Ian. Nothing was too much trouble. David booked our sightseeing trips to Ninh Binh, Halong Bay and Sapa for us - all were excellent and at very good prices. Pick ups from the hotel were organized by the staff so that made organising transoport easy. The hotel has Vietnam SIM cards for your mobile, and they also provide a currency exchange. We couldn't have been happier as it made organization easy and we had a smooth, trouble free, comfortable and a very happy stay at the Rising Dragon Legend Hotel. Thank you David, Henry, Ian and the rest of the staff. We'll return. Peter and Vicki, Australia.

The staff in this hotel were excellent! From welcoming us with some welcome drinks and fruit, to politely going through our booking details with us (as there was a mix up about payment) and even looking after our bags for a night (as we spent one evening in a village a little way out from Hanoi and returned to the hotel the day after). Of course the rooms, cleanliness and breakfast were also fantastic - and the only reason for rating the location as a 4 is owing to the fact that as it is centrally located in the Old Town, it can get quite noisy at night. In fairness, the hotel accomodated this by ensuring guests were placed in rooms further away from the noisy street (and with double windows), but it is something to bear in mind. We didnt mind of course - you cant expect to be in the midst of it all, and at the same time expect pure silence!

Tony, Chuong, Annie really went the extra mile to make my stay perfect. Tony was very proactive always inquiring if everything is ok and making suggestions, if better options were available, that I did not think of. Chuong helped me restoring my by mistake deleted pictures from the cameras SD card once I came back from SaPa - thank you so much! Without you I would have not been able to use the camera - or I‘d have to buy a new SD card. Annie was great in explaining the differences in the tours, asking what I expect and was also very honest when telling me that the 6 hour tour is the standard one day tour everyone takes and is hence a little more crowded. The location of the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Hoan Kiem Lake and the Opera (there is the money exchange offering great rates - Quoc Trinh Gold Shop - right around the corner) as well as to the train street. The train station, if you‘re going to SaPa by train is approximately a 15 minutes walk. The rooms (as I stayed there twice, I got to use two different rooms) are very clean, cleaned daily and have really comfortable beds. Really loved staying there and will be for sure staying there again, if coming back to Hanoi.

This is a beautiful place to stay. The bed here is the most comfortable Ive had in one month in Vietnam. The decor and comfort is excellent here. The breakfast is wonderful . But its the service that really deserves the highest accolades. Even when there were difficulties with booking site( no fault of the hotel) , the owner made sure I was accomodated, and even gave me an upgrade!! They were patient kind and helpful. Room is a decent size for the price but the AC is rubbish, water marks and weird stains on the ceiling and wall, wallpaper peeling off and the shower wasn’t great. Generally didn’t seem very clean, I found someone else’s hair tie on the bedside table and glitter in the bathroom. The sheets smelt very perfumed which made it seem like they hadn’t been cleaned and smelt of the previous person who slept in them. Staff were friendly but a bit pushy trying to sell spa treatments and despite putting do not disturb on the door we were awoken with consistent knocking and the phone ringing by housekeeping trying to get in. Overall not that bad for the money, location is great but we were disappointed.

It's in a great location for Koreans to come The street is a Korean village, so there are many Korean restaurants, convenience stores and marts. It was so comfortable on the first floor. The hostel was clean and the view was good. The host tried his best to eliminate the inconvenience and was friendly And it was possible without difficulty for local guests to visit I will definitely come here again if I travel to Hanoi next time. By the way, Starbucks is on the first floor, so you can walk in a minute.

The girls in the restaurant know how I love my eggs. They had unexpectedly run out of gas and had a fresh bottle coming ”any minute”. My family loves the room where we can cook fresh seafood purchased from near by Cho Thanh Tan or Market Thanh Tan. There is a lot of food choices nearby. The facility itself is not up-to-date, but there is a swimming pool on the roof, the breakfast is delicious, and the location is good. It's good because it's close to St. Joseph's Cathedral and the train tracks, and famous restaurants are within walking distance. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. I had a deluxe room with a window, but the curtains were kept on, so I thought it could have been a windowless room. The room was not spacious, but I could lay out two 24-inch suitcases and it was okay because I almost slept in the hotel. I want to use it again when I go back to Hanoi. After checking out, I left my luggage and showered before going to the airport. Although the swimming pool is not big, it was not a problem to play.

The reception was a redux of our initial warm welcome, greeting us with tea, making our return feel like a homecoming. Their attentiveness added a golden touch to our already stellar experience.

To be honest, didn't stay at this hotel. This hotel is behind the White Horse Temple and there should be two stores. At the front desk of the hotel, my sister could n’t speak Chinese and communicated in English. Then she told us that the hotel circuit was broken. We changed to another shop, called TU linh palace hostel. Our room was small. But my uncle who came to meet us spoke Chinese and experienced the difficult communication in English. I felt kind to this uncle instantly. At that time, we did not exchange enough Vietnamese dongs. We exchanged 3,000 renminbi dongs with our uncle. Then I asked my uncle to buy a 22-dollar ticket to Da Nang for us. This is more pit, but as the first stop abroad, Hanoi can still accept it! !! In the end, Hanoi, as the capital of Vietnam, has more Westerners, less hotels in Chinese, and higher consumption. The hotel is like that, anyway, I didn't live in this hotel.
