|2.01km from city centerI was so lucky to find this place. I showed up in Helena to start a new job and did not get a chance to plan ahead where I would stay. This was the first place I found off the freeway, and it has a refrigerator, a freezer, and a microwave—everything I needed for an extended stay until I could find an apartment (and not a bad view out the window either!). Thank goodness for America’s Best Value Inn!

|1.65km from city centerI realize this was on the lower financial end and expected to get what I paid for. I stayed in Room 111, the bathroom ceiling was full of mold along the walls/ceiling. I did not expect mold in the price. Even the hairdryer plug had months of gunk on top of the plug in. The headboard had some white smear across it. I’m HOPING it was cleaning stuff. It smelt like a nail salon when we walked in to the front desk. That’s because on one of the lobby tables there was a plate of fake fingernails and a movie playing on a tablet but nobody at the table. I am assuming it was the staff interrupted by guests.

|1.74km from city centerTo begin with we found this hotel under a different name on *********** as they had just changed ownership. The first clue that maybe we should not stay there was when we entered the lobby and saw that the whole place was under construction. The fireplace was only partially finished, the big room behind that was completely torn apart, and the hallways were under construction but since we had a long day of driving we decided to stay there anyways. We got to our room and the first thing we noticed was the TV's did not work and there were no trash cans. I returned to the office to complain and they agreed to have us change rooms. One of the staff followed me to the room with trash cans and when we got there we discovered that my wife had the TV's fixed (batteries were not in the remotes and it took time for TV's to start working) so thinking that all the problems were solved we agreed to stay in the original room. After we got all unpacked we started looking around we noticed the floor lamps were not plugged in, the refrigerator was also not plugged in and because the large cabinet that it was in was not positioned properly against the wall the cord was too shot to reach the plug so I placed the refrigerator on a table to be able to use it Also noticed there were no clothes hangers or coffee pot. Turned the AC on and left to get something to eat, returned several hours later only to find the AC was not putting out any cold air so we ended up just opening a window. Then discovered that the way the two TV's were positioned one remote would control both TV's, turn one TV on they both come on same for changing channels unless you had the remote about one foot in front of one TV. Since the construction workers had to use the elevators both elevators were extremely dirty with trash everywhere. The ice makers in the hallways did not work ( but were told if we really needed ice they could get some from the kitchen) and to top it all off every time the toilet was flushed water would squirt out from under the tank on to the seat. I'm sure this will be a nice place to stay when all construction is complete but asking people to put up with all the inconveniences until then is absurd!

Helena
|0.73km from city centerWe have stayed at the Great Northern multiple times a year for many years traveling for our children’s sporting events. After this last stay, I think it is time to check other options in Helena. I was less than pleased about the cleanliness of the room we arrived to- hairs on the bathroom floor (and a bead?), hairs in the tub, water (toothpaste?) sprayed on the mirror above the faucet, water marks all over the faucet, a very poorly cleaned toilet, dirty finger marks on the outside of the microwave, less than clean refrigerator, marks on the nightstand countertop. All of this came off when I took my own disinfecting wipes to these surfaces. I left for the sporting event we were attending, and after a day in the cold and rain returned to the room and found the thermostat was set at 55F. Freezing, I climbed into one of the two queen beds only to find it didn’t even have a duvet cover- only a very worn fleece blanket on top of the sheet. My daughter’s bed had a duvet. Our stay was for two nights; I opted to buy my own comforter at Costco for the second night as I was now less than confident in the level of cleanliness in what I would receive if I asked for one from the hotel. In addition to these issues, the room had a layer of dust on all the lamps, the headboards, etc. and the bathroom door would not shut. The staff was friendly, but when I relayed my concerns at checkout I didn’t get more than an “I’m sorry, what room.” After I left I realized I was given a receipt for the wrong room, so I’m sure nothing was addressed.
