It's quite a long walk from Southern Cross Station, and some of the paths are narrow, making it difficult to pull luggage. The front desk is on the second floor, and self-check-in is available. Since I arrived early and wanted to check in sooner, I paid an extra $25 per night to upgrade to a queen room with a desk. The deposit was $100. The room facilities were complete, though the shower head in the bathroom was fixed overhead and only allowed for direction adjustment. There were plenty of TV channels, including Phoenix TV for Chinese viewers. The staff on the ground floor were very friendly.

The overall experience leans towards a high-end boutique hotel style. The location is excellent, close to Collins Street, making it very convenient for getting around. The rooms are well-designed, modern, and tasteful, with comfortable bedding and good soundproofing. The service is professional yet unobtrusive, making it ideal for business travelers or those seeking a touch of quality.

Every worker in this hotel was so kind from the first day to the end. Especially Amy, in front desk, showed the whole map and recommended what-to-do in Melbourne. This hotel made the vibe of the city very nice and kind. If you are considering hotels in the CBD, I highly recommend this hotel.

I recently stayed at Novotel Melbourne on Collins, and overall it was a great experience. The location is unbeatable — right in the heart of the city, with easy access to shops, cafes, and public transport. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable, with large windows overlooking Collins Street. The bed was very cozy and ensured a good night’s sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially at check-in — they made everything smooth and welcoming. Breakfast had a good variety of options, and the dining area was bright and pleasant. The gym and facilities were well-maintained, though the pool was a bit small. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for both business and leisure stays. The combination of great location, comfort, and professional service makes it one of the best value stays in Melbourne CBD.

Had a wonderful stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne! The location is perfect right across from Flinders Street Station and within walking distance to great cafes and shops. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-designed, with beautiful city views. Staff were warm and attentive and made check-in smooth (loved the welcome cookie!). Would definitely return for both business and leisure trips.

Check-in was smooth and the staff were genuinely friendly, creating a great first impression. The hotel’s location is ideal—nestled between two major roads within the CBD’s free tram zone. My room was on the 9/F and top floor, spacious and well-appointed. Though the hotel is surrounded by buildings and doesn’t offer any view, it’s peaceful and practical. coin-operated laundry and dryer are available onsite, with laundry powder sold at reception for $1 AUD, which is quite handy for extended stays. The television doesn’t support direct login to streaming platforms like Netflix, but I easily mirrored content from my personal device. This workaround worked well for casual viewing during my downtime. There were a few downsides. One pillow had a visible mold stain, which raised a hygiene concern. I had my Do Not Disturb sign displayed throughout my stay, yet housekeeping entered and cleaned the room on my final day. It was an unexpected breach of privacy, and I hope the hotel takes note and reinforces respect for guest preferences. Despite these minor issues, the overall experience was highly satisfying. The combination of its prime location, spacious rooms, thoughtful amenities, and friendly service makes this hotel a dependable and comfortable choice.

The location is fantastic, right next to Central Station, and all major shopping malls are within walking distance. The room facing the road was a bit noisy, but the other one was fine. The kitchen is well-equipped with basic necessities; we brought our own seasonings. There's also a laundry room, but I couldn't find any detergent, so I popped down to the Chinese supermarket downstairs to buy some laundry pods, which was convenient. Great value for money!

If you dont want to stay in a airbnb, this is one of the hotels that has the best location. Popular overlay cafe just downstairs. Walk 5mins to melb central mall, bourke street mall for shopping and little lonsdale street for korean food. Clean and comfortable stay. No kitchen etc in the hotel. Safe location, lots of pedestrians walking on this street till late night as there are many restaurants and desert place around the corner. But if you want to stay in a 4 star hotel right smack in the city just choose this

The place is a bit dated, specially noticeable in the pool/gym amenities. However, what it lacks in newness, it makes up with excellent service. My child was celebrating her birthday and was surprised with a birthday treat during breakfast. This may be a small thing, but we appreciated it as she is anaphylactic to dairy and the staff made sure everything on her cake was dairy-free. We were also allowed to check in a bit later.

I booked this hotel during a Ctrip promotion, and honestly, the price was a steal at 1000/night. First, the pros: Location: It's right in the city center, first ring, free zone. You can take the tram for a free city walk. If you're on a day tour, the bus pick-up point is just a two-minute walk away. The front desk staff, Holy, and the senior gentleman from concierge were both very nice. Now, for the cons: The coffee spoon wasn't clean, it was dirty. The minibar fridge had cooling issues; the bottom was full of water. These, I could overlook. However, and seriously, as a Hyatt Globalist, I rarely stay at InterContinental, and I have never, in all my previous experiences, encountered an unlocked room door. I left my room early Friday morning for a day tour and returned at 9:30 PM to find my room door unlocked, just as pictured. I was shocked. The next day, I spoke to the duty manager, and they checked the surveillance footage, confirming that no one had entered my room. But my stay experience was truly poor. Such carelessness, forgetting to lock the guest's door after cleaning. Plus, this hotel's elevators don't require a room card swipe. At 9:30 PM, both the front desk and concierge were empty, making it easy for anyone to access any floor. I somewhat regret not spending a bit more to stay at the Grand Hyatt. Also, I heard this hotel is rebranding to Regent, oh my! InterContinental truly feels like a makeshift operation. To think they dare to rebrand to Regent like this! This hotel usually sells at the same price as the Grand Hyatt, and if it weren't for this promotion, I definitely wouldn't have chosen it. InterContinental left such a terrible impression on me; it's really hard not to come here and complain.

This hotel is right next to St. Patrick's. While it's not in the free tram zone, it's just a one-stop walk to get there. The hotel facilities are a bit old, but they are well-maintained. Although the hardware shows its age, the 'software' (services) is generally good. Breakfast is semi-à la carte, and while the variety might be a bit lacking for Chinese tastes, it's still pretty good compared to local options. The selection is even richer and the quality better than at Crown Plaza. All in all, for a Park Hyatt that costs about the same as a Grand Hyatt, you shouldn't expect too much beyond the price, but it still offers good value for money.

The staff are super helpful and friendly. But the bathroom and toilet facilities are a bit outdated. The tap over the wash basin keeps dripping water and it's making loud dripping sound that it's disturbing our sleep. Since we only stayed for a couple of nights, so we did not bother to ask for change of room. Also, it really difficult to turn the tap on and off with these old-styled taps. Hopefully some renovation is in line soon when we come back next year to stay there...

The bathroom design wasn't very practical. The sink in the toilet was too small to be useful at all, and the vanity outside was a waste of space, so my friend and I ended up using the kitchen sink to wash up. The hotel's location is great, but being close to the railway, you inevitably hear train noises. It was very loud in both bedrooms. Also, not every room has air conditioning; only the bedrooms do. If you close the door to other rooms while sleeping, there's no AC, which led to me getting hotter and hotter one night and sweating a lot. Opening the window was too noisy, which was a really awkward situation. The front desk is only open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, which means if you leave your luggage, you have to pick it up promptly in the evening, otherwise you'll have to wait until the next day. I think the hotel's pricing, considering it's an apartment hotel, offers great value for money, especially with its excellent location. It's very convenient to get anywhere. There's a free tram stop right outside, and South Cross Station is just one street and one intersection away. Plus, both one-day tours we booked had nearby pick-up points, which was a nice surprise we didn't know before booking the tours.

Our stay in a Luxury King Room at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins was absolutely fantastic. Melbourne City Backpackers is a top pick for solo budget travelers like me exploring Melbourne. Centrally located near Southern Cross Station and Queen Victoria Market, it's perfect for hopping on trams or the SkyBus from the airport, and just a short trip to Phillip Island penguins. Friendly staff shared insider tips on local cafes and sights, while the free breakfast kickstarted my days. The spacious dorms came with lockers (bring your own padlock), power outlets, and decent cleanliness—common areas stayed sociable without feeling chaotic. Kitchen facilities were well-equipped for self-catering on a student budget. Only minor downsides: street noise at night (earplugs helped) and no elevator, so pack light. Overall, unbeatable value at ~$30/night—highly recommend for backpackers wanting convenience and vibe! 9/10.

Great hotel with excellent service and value for money. I accidentally left 700 AUD in the room safe after check-out and only realized it at the airport. The staff handled it quickly and professionally, and I got my money back without any hassle. The hotel feels very safe and quiet, the room is spacious and comfortable, and the front desk staff are friendly. The location is perfect — opposite Southern Cross Station, easy for trains and the airport, with a Coles supermarket across the street. The area is very walkable. Highly recommended!

The hotel's location is pretty good. The one-day tour I booked met right outside the Windsor Hotel, which was only a few minutes' walk away. Both Red Apple and Green Apple supermarkets are within walking distance, and Chinatown isn't far either, making evenings very lively. The hotel facilities are admittedly a bit old, but the hygiene is decent. Breakfast is just okay, but it's filling, and surprisingly, they even offered congee. When checking out, since I paid a cash deposit, I had to wait a while for them to inspect the room before I could get my money back and leave. After the room check, I realized I'd left a piece of clothing in the room. The staff brought it down for me, neatly folded and presented it with both hands, which I really appreciated!

No one offered to help with luggage, and the hotel has two entrances, but the staff didn't tell me which one was easier for catching a ride. I returned to Melbourne and booked this Hyatt property again, and honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. The location is still excellent, but the service is practically non-existent. Though, I guess that's a common issue with hotels in Australia? There was a small hiccup at check-out where I was wrongly charged $40 for dinner. It makes me wonder if someone who isn't fluent in English or doesn't scrutinize their bill would just end up paying that extra charge. Luckily, I argued it with the hotel on the spot. I was rushing to catch a flight, so I had Trip.com follow up, and their service was really good; they promptly sent an email to resolve it. Overall, there are only a few good hotels in Melbourne's CBD. If you're booking based on location, I'd recommend it. However, if you're looking for better service at the same price point, I'd suggest the hotels in Southbank instead.

Before arriving in Melbourne, the hotel called to inform me that the air conditioner was broken and it would take a few days to repair it, and asked if I needed to check out. I always choose this hotel every time I go to Melbourne. It has been more than 10 years. Although the hotel facilities and environment are relatively old, it is in the city center, very convenient to get in and out, and there are trams, restaurants and shopping nearby. In the end, I chose to stay. In Melbourne's summer, the temperature difference between morning and evening is quite large. It is very hot during the day but still very comfortable at night. The hotel is quite considerate and equipped with fans. The only inconvenient thing is cleaning. You need to tell the front desk before 10 o'clock every morning, and they will arrange it. After 10 o'clock, you have to wait until the next day to clean. I will choose this hotel next time I go to Melbourne.

Wifi speed is good for browsing (Approx 40-50Mbps) The only downside is: Their hotel key is using old technology and easily demagnetised. I happen to put it next to my Airpods and it loses the magnetism.

The hotel's hygiene is excellent, and the lobby is spacious and bright. There are plenty of elevators, so even during peak hours, you don't wait long. The rooms are also spacious with beautiful window views; one side should offer a clear view of the river connecting the North and South banks, perfect for watching New Year's fireworks. Housekeeping is arranged from the third day of your stay, and they do a thorough and clean job. Overall, I'm very satisfied, although the location is a bit far from the CBD and Melbourne's main attractions. However, once you cross to the North Bank, you're not far from the tram free zone, which makes up for it. 👍👍👍

Great Southern Hotel Melbourne provided solid value for my short solo stay in the city during a busy trip. Right opposite Southern Cross Station, it's incredibly convenient for SkyBus from the airport, trams to Phillip Island penguins, and exploring Crown Casino or the CBD—perfect for backpackers on a student budget. Rooms were clean and comfortable with comfy beds, good bathrooms, and free WiFi; staff were super friendly, offering quick check-in and local tips. Breakfast (extra charge) was decent and reasonably priced. Minor issues like occasional AC glitches or no elevator in some areas, but overall great location and service outweigh them. Would stay again—8.5/10!

Definitely not the best hostel I've been too but not the worst either. However I wouldn't recommend as a female guest. First, they take a photo of you upon check in. I don't know if this is customary in Australia but if it was up to me I wouldnt be willing to provide it (it is stated on trip.com upon booking though, I guess I just missed it). Second... I'm not making any claims here but inside the female bathrooms, there are tiny holes on the walls and doors. They could totally be harmless, but as someone living in Korea where those holes in public bathrooms mean something harmful to women... I wouldn't risk staying at such a place ever again now that I know. Now for the facility review... There was 1 working bathroom with 2 toilets & 2 shower booths on my floor, but it probably wasnt too crowded, I never had to wait to shower. Hot water came out just fine. Would give a 7/10 for cleanliness... There were 2 hair dryers only 1 of which was working. The location is very good, walking distance to all CBD landmarks (very near South Cross Station & tram station right outside the door). Which also means that it gets noisy at night with the noise from the train running. You can either close the window (which I heard is very heavy) and live with the stuffy smell, or leave the window open and live with the noise. Cant do both. Amenities... what do I say? I got a key to enter the room & the bathroom. The beds werent numbered so you just get your room number and hop on whichever bed that seemed... fresh. A bed with a blanket, pillow, and curtain for privacy. That was all. They did provide free towels when I asked later. Inside the shared bathroom, there was 1 gel provided inside the shower booth, not sure if it was shower gel or shampoo... I do believe there is plenty room for improvement. Starting from the holes in the shower booths..

It’s a nice little place that did what it needed to do to keep a roof over my head. Slightly annoying that you have to use the bathroom/shower in seperate areas within the hotel but that was already known once paying for a room in advance.

The apartment matched the pictures online almost perfectly, 99% accurate! Even though the hotel has been open for years, the rooms and facilities were spotlessly clean. No water stains on the walls, and the bathroom was completely free of mold or black spots in any corners. The drains worked perfectly with no unpleasant odors. I stayed for 6 days, and whenever I hung the cleaning card, they came to clean promptly. The front desk service was excellent. Overall, I'm very satisfied and will definitely book here again in the future.

The hotel's location is excellent, close to Chinatown and the city center. The breakfast is abundant. This is our second time staying here, and aside from the sealed windows, we're quite satisfied with everything else. Especially commendable is the late check-out till 12 PM, considering our flight was at 4 PM – that's truly rare and much appreciated!
