I'm not sure if this hotel is happy having customers. I checked in at around 530 pm and the receptionist said four words to me: "Here's your room key". Honestly, I was shocked. I travel often and in my many times of checking in a hotel, this was probably the shortest. I also noticed that the guard is not manning the door, he's just sitting down holding his mobile phone. A hotel staff that looks like ended his shift is drinking beer by the lobby. I'm like, "What the hell is happening here!". As the lift door opens, I was greeted by an eerie hotel hallway which reminded me of the shining. It was very eerie. The rooms where standard, no frills. Bed linen feels and smells old as if no one had stayed for days. The towels smell old as well. The shower took forever to heat up and took forever to cool down as well. The aircon kept on turning into "low cool" making the room hot. I don't think people stay here. They provide room wifi but you can't connect to it. Noise reduction from outside is terrible. You can hear dogs barking. That's what you expect for 1.8K peso a night I guess. Booked via Agoda. Traveled on business.

We were a group of 4 for my first trip to Davao and this hotel's modern design of repurposed container vans quickly caught my eyes. The hotel is located in a mixed neighborhood, somewhat away from most touristy areas, although G Mall and Abreeza Mall are less than 1.5km away. There are plenty of seating areas on the upper areas, but these are open air, therefore, weather-dependent. The quad room is spacious and has a good mount of storage space, between the wardrobe and the TV cabinet. The room has 2 queen size beds, which are of decent firmness... so quad in this sense means shared sleeping for 2 people. The 4-person room also comes with breakfast, but only for 2. Breakfast for the other 2 would mean paying PHP350 per person per day. We were disappointed with breakfast and skipped it on the 2nd and 3rd days of our stay. The front desk staff were friendly. However, I wished they were more equipped to give information on what Davao had to offer and where to go. The night before we checked out, we specifically requested if they could reserve a taxi for us by 5:30 am and was assured that this will be done. That morning, we repeated this request during wakeup call and at checkout. We were told by the staff that the guard is out on the street to hail one for us. 15 minutes later we were still on the roadside, waiting for a taxi. Thinking that the hotel might not have a directory of taxi company numbers, hence the failure to book a taxi as assured. However, we were surprised that the staff actually had the required information and actually called a taxi... more than 15 minutes AFTER the time we requested it. Thank goodness that we gave ourselves extra time otherwise we'd have missed our flight.

Personally as an Italian I have certain claims, I must say therefore, that the location of the hotel is strategic, the reception really exceptional, in particular Mr.Rude (that I have surname Opo Opo), who has scheduled a tour in Davao and surroundings, which satisfied me completely. check with him when you book and you will be satisfied, from the professionalism and honesty. Not least by Mr. Romel who showed me the places to dine and where to buy the things I needed, also satisfied the rest of the hotel team, truly an ideal team. Note that you have close to two restaurants and a Mall with cheap prices, it is worth trying to believe, I will definitely come back.

This is one of those places where I wouldn’t have stayed at, if only there were available rooms at nearby hotels. The facility is best described as a dormitory, catering to mostly students and transients. Rooms are very basic. Towels and beddings are old and tired, if not filthy. Tiny roaches were creeping in corners, so I kept my bags sealed most of the time to make sure they don’t creep into my things.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise for our family. I chose this hotel for its location/convenience - we were attending a wedding and it had to be near the church and the wedding reception. We did not know that we would experience excellent service in this hotel. The front desk personnel, the restaurant staff and the housekeeping department all went out of their way to make our three (03) night stay worth it. We booked three (03) rooms and one (01) room was upgraded from superior to deluxe just to make sure that all three (03) rooms were in the same floor and adjacent/across each other without any extra charges. They also allowed an early check-in of 9:30 a.m. for the two (02) rooms which was really good for our Eighty-Four (84) year old mother who arrived in the morning and who needed to rest. The food served for breakfast was fresh, varied and delicious. The waiters and chefs remembered our food preferences and we truly enjoyed the special attention they gave all of us. The housekeeping staff ensured that our rooms were always clean and even gave us extra water to drink. We would stay in this hotel again.

Unintentionally strolling to this hotel, it is considered to be a better hotel in Davao, and it is relatively new. The first day of the booking was set at the wrong time, and then Ctrip was called. Ctrip did not help to solve it. There was a day booking , And then told the hotel front desk when I checked in the next day. Since I was refunded the room rate for one day, wow I was so impressed that I did n’t know what to say, 800RMB must be praised.

I stayed here last October 2019 for 4 nights. I booked for a double room in this hotel, the space is just okay. It has a double bed, 1 side table, work table, flatscreen tv with some channels, hot and cold showers and towels and free toiletries (tissue and soap). Cleanliness ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5): I rated just 3 because there’s a bit of weird smell upon entering the room. The comforter, sheets, pillow cases and blankets have stains and smells old. The floor also are dusty and the showers and faucets are a little bit rusty. Comfort ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5): The matress itself are comfortable and the airconditioning works properly but as mentioned above, the sheets smells old. Services ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5): I love their services. Specially the front desk officers (Apple and I forgot to ask the name of the other one), they are very professional and accommodating. We asked them a lot of times regarding directions and they always gave us a detailed one. So we didn’t got lost getting around Davao. The restaurant staff are also very accommodating and the food services are very quick. Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5): We ate here everyday for our free breakfasts and all of the plated meals I ordered I am very much satisfied. They served the food plentiful and they even have unli brewed coffee every morning. Location ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5): I can say that this hotel is in a very strategic location because it is near to some of the tourist destinations of Davao like People’s Park, Roxas Night Market, Bankerohan Public Market. It is also very near many restaurants and some of the jeepneys and taxi routes (To Eden Nature Park (Toril bound), To Jack’s Ridge (Matina bound) are just walking distance or just in front from or of the hotel.

This cosy and well organised friendly family run guest house is your home from home. The owners are so kind and as he is a good lawyer and get you off the hook in case you've been scammed by the more expensive hotels. Sure, it's a little cramped but that is cosy, if you're British and you love Filipinos you will love this place. If you are looking to spend money and want a big room they have those too. It's up to you and everyone is welcome at Berlay Backpackers, enjoy!

The hotel environment is quite good. The grass, swimming pool and woods are very good. Unfortunately, the room is severely wet, the decoration is old, and the beach is quite weak. The boat to the paradise beach opposite is charged for 60peso per person. Ashore 240peso, small beach is ok, all items are charged separately, I feel quite pit.

The address is good, next to abreeze mall, there are many choices for shopping and dining, including a Chinese restaurant called chowking (Chinese name is Chaoqun). The internal environment of the hotel is good, the decoration is new and modern, and the service is warm and positive, which is quite good. It should be considered a good local hotel in the city.

Our staff booked us at this hotel for a quick business trip in Davao. The hotel was strategically located between the airport and our meeting venue in Lanang. The rooms were okay. Facilities were well maintained. But their wifi was weak in the rooms and you had to go to the lobby to get a decent speed internet. The lobby seemed to be usually crowded so its not easy to work from there. It was also quite noisy mainly due to other guests who seem to not care about the noise they were generating. It didn't help that the hotel rooms' doors had a big opening at the bottom and there certainly was no sound-proofing. The set breakfast was okay though they had what seems like unlimited pandesal (bread) and coffee, tea and chocolate in sachets. The saving grace here is their staff who were very kind and helpful.

To be fair, the hotel is decent looking, their rooms are ok. Although their bathroom needs work. Hot water from the shower isnt available although the hotel attendant who came to fix it said that it was working fine. Their breakfast is served buffet style in a 50's diner themed restaurant. The rooms are located a bit far from the resto and front desk..our room was at the farthest end so when my workmate forgot our key card inside our room and we were locked outside, the long walk going to the front desk was stressful. It was lucky that along the way we saw a hotel attendant who opened our room for us. The set up is all good when you are just there vacationing with family or friends and time is not ticking away. They have a nice big swimming pool area that you could all enjoy. But when you are staying for a business trip, the location of the rooms will cause hassle and you will need to allocate more time to prepare for meetings. Also, if there isnt a line of taxi outside the hotel (normally there are esp in the morning) it is difficult to get a cab from this location.

I have been visiting my father in Davao for the past 3 years. This has been at the start, a harrowing experience; changing hotels 2-3 times a day until I came across The Bourke. I have been to the RedDoorz, the Mandaya's, and Marco Polo's of Davao and nothing compares to the service, comfort and convenience of The Bourke. It is a relatively small property, so no rooftop pool here, however what I found here is consistency, courtesy and comfort. The rooms are immaculately clean and unique. The staff accommodating and genuinely friendly. The F&B options are exceptional for breakfast, lunch or dinner (not your typical hotel restaurants). This however comes at a price - The Bourke is more pricey than the majority of the comp set. But I believe it is worth it. I've paid slightly less staying at Mandaya/Apo View, and more staying at Marco Polo, and without a doubt The Bourke was the best experience for the money.

Good things - Decent room (had a good night sleep) - place seems safe with security guard in the area - haven't seen cracks on walls due to recent earthquakes Minor inconveniences: - relatively small elevator with limited capacity, (3 people with bags could actually fill the whole elevator) - food is slightly higher in price compared to its quantity served and quality Opportunity for Improvement: - enhanced communication among hotel staff and food service provider (free breakfast inclusion not accounted on one of our companions - I have to move back to the room upstairs to get money but eventually they ended up serving free breakfast since it must be included) Overall: - I'll consider this again as an option if I happen to travel to Davao.
