The cleanliness of the room and bathroom was satisfactory. The location is strategic, close to Sandakan airport, with a laundry, market, and restaurants conveniently located around the hotel. There were only three minor drawbacks:
Firstly, if you book a room with a bathtub, showering is difficult. (See the second picture.) You have to step into the tub to turn on the water, and the cold tap only dispensed hot water, so you had no choice but to endure hot showers.
Secondly, only one room key card was issued. If you're not staying solo and someone leaves the room, they'll have to knock to get back in.
Lastly, the TV was non-functional as it had no channels and couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi. The TV itself looked like an outdated model.From$28

What I liked a lot: Well situated to visit main attractions in Sepilok: Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre/Sunbear centre/Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), free shuttle bus to the main attractions (09h-14h-16) which was really great. Also offer tours at reasonable prices e.g. Mangroves & Firefly Cruise (recommended). Free water dispenser.
To note: rooms are very basic (there is airco), we had some ants in the room, bathroom is outside. Breakfast was limited and minimal.
When we were there internet was not functional, luckily we had taken local simcard before with unlimited data so for us, this was not a big issue. Before coming to the hotel, I had sent a mail to have info about tours they offered, but never received a reply therefore I had booked tours with an agency which in the end was more expensive then when I would have it booked with Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat. Possible to book tours on the spot (no need to reserve before coming) but I did not know this in advance.From$8

The location is a bit far away, but the swimming pool downstairs is great, and there are a little more mosquitoes. You can use grab to order takeout to make up for the distance. There is no problem with 6 people in the room. It is very convenient to have a washing machine. The security downstairs is good and you need a key card to enter. The room is well ventilated It's cool, the one-day tour chartered car introduced by the landlord is also very good, I recommend grab for taxi, suitable for families, there are many Chinese channels on TV, and the descendants of the landlord's Chinese descent can communicate in Chinese through WeChatFrom$76

The shower worked fine, though the shower head was positioned a bit unusually, so I found it more comfortable to use the handheld option. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of.
The only real challenge was the presence of a few mosquitoes in the room, which made it harder to sleep well. With better pest control, this would make a big difference to the overall comfort.

Nice appartment on the ninth floor of a flatbuilding in a condominium. The appartment is nicely decorated and offers room for many guests.. we couldn't find the pool, so we didn't use that.
When we got to the appartement there was nobody there, we sent a message and somebody came. after a very long waiting time. Then they could open the door so after an hour and a half we were able to get in. The next morning before waking up they already send a message about the check out. This stressed us. Had a nice stay but the management and chasing us out before eleven o 'clock was very bad service.From$62

For a small town this consider one of the okay hotel.
If you don't need anything fancy and just for sleep, this hotel is sufficient.
One complaint though, the fridge have stain cause it keep on and off I guess based on occupancy availability. Afraid of mold and hotel need to be little bit more care to cleanliness.
Location wise it is at the main shop areas where you can find lots of food choices as well other grocery pharmacy within walking distances.From$41
