This hotel really made me feel at home. Everything was very clean and new, and the owner even left thoughtful snacks outside. My room was cleaned and towels replaced daily. Service: The front desk was very slow when checking us in; people who arrived after us were already done. It said they offered Chinese service, but it was just a tiny bit, really just a tiny bit. However, they did provide breakfast vouchers which you could redeem on the first floor. Hygiene: When we pulled back the covers, the bedding was wrinkled. We initially thought it hadn't been changed, but even after they supposedly changed it, it was still wrinkled. Maybe that's just how it is.

I booked this guesthouse based on a recommendation from a Xiaohongshu blogger. It's very clean and doesn't have any strange odors. I'd say it's one of the cleaner accommodations in town. The showers are communal, and you need to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste, but towels are provided. Just be aware that during busy times, you might have to wait for hot water, and the water pressure isn't very strong. The location is excellent and quite safe; you need a key card to enter the main gate. It's very convenient to walk to the pier, and right next door is the tour agency for 'Conch Diving' guides. The owner is very nice, and I really like Malaysian people. Thank you! It was a very pleasant experience.

Accommodations in Semporna town are generally quite basic. This time, traveling with my kids, I booked the Sipadan Inn 2. The hotel's location is excellent, very close to the Marine Tourism Center, with plenty of restaurants and attractions nearby. However, there's a bar next door where many young people sing, and there are lots of dogs in town that fight at night, making it a bit noisy. Breakfast is very simple, and I won't go into detail about the hotel's facilities – they're considered decent for Semporna, but don't set your expectations too high. I brought my own disposable bedding. The hotel staff's service was excellent overall; they were very friendly when I asked for water or information during my stay. Oh, and the hotel is very close to the seafood market, so you can buy fresh seafood and have it prepared – it's incredibly tender and delicious.

Breakfast is quite simple; I only had chicken, egg, and rice noodles (noodle soup). I'd recommend bringing your own slippers, as the ones provided had an odor and didn't seem clean. The front desk lady was very nice. What I wasn't happy about was the strict no-cancellation/modification policy within two days. I originally booked for four days, but my plans changed and I only stayed three, and they wouldn't refund the extra day. Unless it's a major holiday like Chinese New Year or National Day, it's usually not very crowded, with many rooms empty. You can probably book on the spot, so you don't end up losing a day's worth of money like I did.

The owner's wife was helpful with bargaining for seafood, but the cooking fee was quite expensive. The taste, however, was good. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, especially in the evenings. However, both lunch and breakfast were very basic. Breakfast was quite oily and lacked fruit. Snorkeling was 100 MYR for only half an hour, which felt like poor value for money. The pricing for activities could be much more transparent. It would be great if they clearly listed all activity costs at the front desk. I had specifically informed the owner's wife that I wanted to go snorkeling, but when I came out, I was told the boat had just left. They neither provided an exact departure time nor called us, which was quite frustrating. You couldn't directly access the sea from the room; you had to go down near the restaurant. At high tide, it was quite deep, around 2 meters. We saw starfish, and it's rumored that sea turtles appear at night, though we didn't see any. There was only one return boat trip per day. If you wanted to travel at other times, you had to charter a boat for 500 MYR. Compared to other overwater bungalows, this place is relatively cheaper. Overall, I'd say it's just about acceptable, depending on individual preferences. Personally, next time I would opt for a more expensive option with better facilities.

Unlike most guesthouses, which are typically large houses with several rooms, Pineapple Resort feels more like a hotel. It consists of a dozen small, standalone wooden cottages nestled among palm trees. The management is also quite hotel-like, and while breakfast isn't extensive, it offers a good variety. Although the resort is about five kilometers from Semporna town, considering the town's general disarray (especially near the jetty with seafood vendors and Bajau beggars), which can easily spoil a good mood, it's better to stay a bit further out in a quiet resort. Pineapple Resort offers free shuttle buses to and from Semporna jetty from morning to midday and in the evening, making transportation very convenient. What's more, it provides a warmer experience than a star-rated hotel, giving me a home-away-from-home feeling. For foodies, if you're a good cook (the resort doesn't yet have a professional chef), Pineapple Resort is happy to provide a cooking area for seafood bought from the town market, which is incredibly convenient for those of us who love beautiful views and good food.

Eighth, the gathering or public area is too hot because there is no fan, please prepare some ceiling fans so guests can dine properly. Ninth, should have a table for a big room at least. the floor is wide enough, but it is so dirty that we do not dare to sit on the floor to play games or cards, we also do not want to play games or cards at the gathering or public area because it is too hot and loud. Tenth, rubbish in the sea or hotel area, i saw a huge pile of rubbish such as bottled water, food container, plastic bag just floating in the sea in the resort. Here are some good things about the hotel, first, very nice scenery, the water is nice and clean in the morning. Secondly, the balcony area for each room is nice because we can look at the scenery while sitting on the chair and resting. Thirdly, the staff is very friendly and very responsible, they do their work fast, they carry our luggage, refill food fast, and are very nice. Fourthly, the overall atmosphere of the hotel is very comfortable. Fifth, the food is ok, breakfast is ok, it is not the best but it is edible, the dinner is the best, and the seafood is a very nice touch. Sixth, we can dry our wet cloth on the balcony too. Overall i give it a 2 out of 5 stars. The price of your hotel does not match the pros and cons of your hotel. I would not want to stay in the hotel another day if the problems still stay the same. Please do your best to improve better. This is my honest review as a Malaysian.

This is such a relaxing island, perfect for a vacation! 🌴 We went during the rainy season, which is considered off-peak, so there weren't many people. Every day at noon, there's a boat to pick up and drop off guests. We stayed for three days, and compared to peak season, it felt like there were never more than 20 guests in total. It's incredibly suitable for families with children, with shallow beaches, 🏖️ turtles, lush greenery, and an exceptionally beautiful natural environment! There are three hotels on the island, and Dragon Pearl seems to have the best facilities. They offer water villas, beach villas, and garden villas. The rooms are spaced appropriately, so you won't be bothered by neighbors. The beach villas have loungers on the porch and under the coconut trees in front, as well as hammocks, giving it a private beach feel. All rooms are equipped with life jackets 🦺, and upon arrival, there are clear signs in both Chinese and English advising guests to always wear a life jacket when in the water and to avoid swimming after 6 PM. The beach is large, the shallow water area is extensive, and the water is incredibly clear – like jelly! You can see the bottom even in two to three meters of water, making it perfect for snorkeling. Every day, island-hopping boats come to snorkel near the pier, where there's a clownfish nest. You can spot turtles daily from the pier, and the island even has a dedicated turtle hatching program, with occasional lectures and release events for baby turtles. The front desk and dive center can also arrange activities like scuba diving 🤿 and snorkeling. This was my first time trying scuba diving here, and because there were so few guests on the island, I got one-on-one instruction from the coach. I saw two turtles up close, truly within arm's reach! I even swam alongside a turtle during the ascent – incredibly lucky! For snorkeling, a dedicated staff member accompanied us with a swim ring 🛟, actively searching for turtles throughout the sea. The service for these small, boutique groups was fantastic! The island's front desk has Chinese-speaking staff, and while the dive center coaches speak English, you can always understand them through gestures and simple explanations. The reception area has a restaurant and a small shop, so the facilities are quite complete and convenient. Perhaps because it was the off-season and there were so few people, the meal options were a bit simple, but the food was delicious and definitely plentiful enough to fill you up. Finally, regarding the season, the rainy season wasn't bad at all. It didn't rain every day. We stayed for four full days, and it rained twice. The first time was at noon, a heavy downpour, but it was a thunderstorm that passed quickly and didn't disrupt our afternoon island-hopping and snorkeling. The second time was on the day we left; the rain was quite heavy, starting around 4 or 5 AM with loud pitter-patter sounds and thunder and lightning ⛈️ that you could hear from inside the room. It rained on and off for most of the morning. The temperature dropped a bit, but it was actually quite comfortable without the scorching sun. The waves were a bit stronger than usual, but I have to commend Dragon Pearl Hotel's location; as we walked along the beach, we could clearly see that the wind and waves calmed down significantly in front of the hotel. Even with the rain, the island-hopping boats for snorkeling kept coming. It was an incredibly comfortable trip! It's definitely worth visiting and worth revisiting!

Choosing Beanstalk Homestay for my Semporna trip was absolutely the right decision! The owner and staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, treating you like friends. While the room isn't luxurious, it's spotlessly clean, the AC works great, there's plenty of hot water, and the bedding is really comfortable. Sea Star Resort Semporna has a rich array of entertainment facilities. The overwater hammock sways gently with the waves, glass-bottom boats and paddleboards await visitors. You can snorkel right near the resort, diving into the clear blue waters to meet corals and schools of fish. Starfish are everywhere, and at high tide, you can see many fish. You can enjoy the charm of the ocean without even leaving the resort. The independent overwater villas are clearly well-invested in terms of decor! Opening the window reveals a full view of the jelly-like sea. The staff are even more enthusiastic and attentive than those at five-star resorts in China. Speedboat transfers and luggage handling are all well-organized. The owner and staff are humble and friendly, responding promptly to requests. They meticulously explain safety precautions before snorkeling, showing their thoughtfulness at every turn. The Chinese-style dishes were so good, we cleaned our plates every day! During the National Day holiday, they didn't raise prices like other overwater resorts, which is truly conscientious. This resort is seriously underrated. Listening to the tides and watching the sunset, the sea breeze washes away worries. It's a place where you can truly relax and slowly enjoy the time amidst the mountains and sea. We spent one night on the island after returning. The nice environment was a plus; we even saw squirrels. Breakfast was so-so, the facilities were okay, and the room was quite large, but the soundproofing was poor. Next door was a mother with two or three children, and they were very noisy. We could hear the children's alarm clock and the lights switching on and off before bedtime. The cleaning seemed neglected; the trash can in the bathroom hadn't been emptied when we entered the room. The location is rather remote, and it's difficult to hail a Grab taxi. We tried to hail one for 15 minutes around 10 AM to go to the airport, but couldn't get one, and finally had to pay extra for a six-seater.

Absolutely fantastic! The owner is Chinese, and the price is very reasonable. It's perfect for couples or friends traveling together! Plus, there's a daily shuttle service to and from the pier, which is super convenient. The owner is incredibly welcoming, and there are lots of cute cats and dogs running around the courtyard. I really loved this guesthouse! Definitely recommend staying here!! The only downside is that toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste aren't provided, so you need to bring your own. After going to the meeting place, they saw their names on the notice board and got on the shuttle bus. After the car left for a while, the staff checked the name. In their records, Chen's name was **** *** Ling, because the name was not completely correct, they drove back to the airport and put our friend down. At the airport, our multiple explanations were also invalid, and it was disturbed for half an hour. Finally my friend was looking for a car to go to the pier by himself. This is a very understated overwater bungalow, only available for booking on Trip.com. It's about 10 kilometers from the port, and the owner is a Malaysian Chinese. If you're looking to take those 'influencer-style' photos, showing off luxury and extravagance to the world, then this might not be the place for you. However, if you want peace and quiet to enjoy your vacation, this is definitely a great choice. Downsides: - There's occasional trash in the surrounding area, which isn't the hotel's fault. - The decor and facilities aren't luxurious. Upsides: - They offer a unique Bajau historical and cultural knowledge tour and exploration (something other overwater bungalows don't have). - They take guests by boat to beautiful large coral reefs for snorkeling. - The bungalow has its own marine life enclosure, perfect for families with young children or those who can't snorkel, allowing them to enjoy marine life during low tide. Finally, there's a fantastic local staff member named Shafry, whose Chinese name is 'Wanshidao' (Mr. Know-It-All). When you go snorkeling, he'll dive to the seabed to catch sea cucumbers, giant clams, clownfish, and all sorts of marine creatures for you. He's also an excellent photographer, perfect for guys who are constantly scolded by their girlfriends for not taking good pictures (like me 😅). He can help you with anything, just remember to tip him! ~~

Room types are assigned randomly, and I was lucky this time to get a newer room with good facilities and a fantastic view. The hotel also provides airport transfers from Tawau Airport, which takes about 80 minutes to the jetty. From the Semporna jetty, you'll need to take a speedboat to the island, which is about a 40-minute ride. The staff are very friendly.

This is such a relaxing island, perfect for a vacation! 🌴 We went during the rainy season, which is considered off-peak, so there weren't many people. Every day at noon, there's a boat to pick up and drop off guests. We stayed for three days, and compared to peak season, it felt like there were never more than 20 guests in total. It's incredibly suitable for families with children, with shallow beaches, 🏖️ turtles, lush greenery, and an exceptionally beautiful natural environment! There are three hotels on the island, and Dragon Pearl seems to have the best facilities. They offer water villas, beach villas, and garden villas. The rooms are spaced appropriately, so you won't be bothered by neighbors. The beach villas have loungers on the porch and under the coconut trees in front, as well as hammocks, giving it a private beach feel. All rooms are equipped with life jackets 🦺, and upon arrival, there are clear signs in both Chinese and English advising guests to always wear a life jacket when in the water and to avoid swimming after 6 PM. The beach is large, the shallow water area is extensive, and the water is incredibly clear – like jelly! You can see the bottom even in two to three meters of water, making it perfect for snorkeling. Every day, island-hopping boats come to snorkel near the pier, where there's a clownfish nest. You can spot turtles daily from the pier, and the island even has a dedicated turtle hatching program, with occasional lectures and release events for baby turtles. The front desk and dive center can also arrange activities like scuba diving 🤿 and snorkeling. This was my first time trying scuba diving here, and because there were so few guests on the island, I got one-on-one instruction from the coach. I saw two turtles up close, truly within arm's reach! I even swam alongside a turtle during the ascent – incredibly lucky! For snorkeling, a dedicated staff member accompanied us with a swim ring 🛟, actively searching for turtles throughout the sea. The service for these small, boutique groups was fantastic! The island's front desk has Chinese-speaking staff, and while the dive center coaches speak English, you can always understand them through gestures and simple explanations. The reception area has a restaurant and a small shop, so the facilities are quite complete and convenient. The second time was on the day we left; the rain was quite heavy, starting around 4 or 5 AM with loud pitter-patter sounds and thunder and lightning ⛈️ that you could hear from inside the room. It rained on and off for most of the morning. The temperature dropped a bit, but it was actually quite comfortable without the scorching sun. The waves were a bit stronger than usual, but I have to commend Dragon Pearl Hotel's location; as we walked along the beach, we could clearly see that the wind and waves calmed down significantly in front of the hotel. The only Starbucks on the island is on the first floor, so I could grab an iced Americano before my boat trip to perk up, and a Frappuccino after island hopping to cool down. Right next to Starbucks is a seafood restaurant, where you can either bring your own seafood to be cooked or order directly from their menu – super convenient! Secondly, the hotel rooms are spacious, clean, and tidied promptly. Definitely my top choice for a vacation! 👍👍👍

We booked a suite, primarily for the spaciousness, and our initial impression upon checking in was very positive. The balcony not facing the street was particularly quiet. Breakfast was just so-so; it filled us up, but we ended up eating rice noodles for all three days. The worst part was that our room wasn't cleaned for the entire three days. We asked the front desk to clean it, but when we returned in the evening, it still hadn't been done. Finally, we took their car to the Kapalai Hotel jetty, which was quite convenient. On other days, we didn't use their car to get to the jetty as we had a private boat charter, and our leader picked us up.

The rooms are a bit dated, but the overall space is fine, and the two large beds are perfect for families. The room also has a balcony, which is great for drying clothes. I suggest the hotel consider replacing the towels and bedsheets, especially the towels, as they've become discolored and don't feel very fresh. For breakfast, there are three options spread across three restaurants, offering both Western and Chinese dishes. There's plenty to fill you up.

If I had a choice, I wouldn't stay here again. This is the first time I've encountered such a long wait for check-out, even with a deposit. Those who paid with credit cards also had to wait. Check-in and check-out were all mixed together... the management is just too chaotic. Plus, the gym had an extremely strong, pungent plastic smell, making it impossible to use. The downstairs restaurant was absolutely terrible. The only good thing was that the room's cleanliness wasn't bad, after all, it's a 5-star hotel, and its location is superb.

Every morning around 7:30 AM, I'd be woken up, and you could clearly hear people talking in the hallway. There were no towels or a hairdryer initially, but they were quickly brought up after I asked. I also reported that the pillowcases weren't clean, and they replaced them. The service attitude was very good, though. A big plus is the free self-service laundry room with LG washer-dryers, but they take a very long time, making it hard to wait. Overall, paying nearly 500 RMB during the off-season wasn't worth it; it felt more like a 100 RMB standard in China. The breakfast selection was limited, and the plain congee was too salty. Hope they can improve these things.
