Reviews From Real Travelers
When people talk about the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing, they often label it as a 'luxury hotel in the hutongs,' a 'hidden gem along the central axis,' or a 'masterpiece of the Qianmen regeneration project.' But if we set aside these external definitions and focus purely on the stay experience, the deepest impression it left on me can be summed up in two words: sheer comfort.
This comfort doesn't stem from any single specific amenity, but rather from an overall feeling.
Tucked away deep within Beijing's Qianmen hutongs, stepping through the gate from the bustling streets into the courtyard felt like entering a different dimension of time. Grey bricks, dark tiles, courtyard walls, and tree shadows – all elements were distinctly Beijing, yet without any forced emphasis on being 'Beijing.' The design didn't just stop at symbolism; instead, it re-organized the hutong courtyard lifestyle, truly allowing guests to live in a modern Beijing courtyard home.
Beijing in the summer is particularly suited to this place.
The afternoon sun dappled through the leaves onto the courtyard, with doves perched quietly on the branches. Sitting in the courtyard, watching the clouds drift slowly between the eaves and grey walls, you suddenly understand why old Beijingers always said, 'There must be a tree in the courtyard.' The tree not only provides shade but also marks the passage of time. The wind changes, the light changes, and the tree shadows change.
Many mention its 'hidden location in the hutongs,' but what's truly worth experiencing isn't just the hidden aspect, but rather that elusive relationship with Beijing's urban culture. Outside the walls are the hustle and bustle of Qianmen, while inside, the unique sense of scale characteristic of courtyard living is preserved. Looking up, you see the sky; looking down, you see tree roots and青砖 (qingzhuan - traditional grey bricks); occasionally, birdsong can be heard. These seemingly ordinary details become precious in today's city.
The service also left an excellent impression.
It wasn't an overly enthusiastic kind of service, but rather a sincere and well-measured attentiveness. Help was always there when needed, yet they maintained an appropriate distance when not. Many high-end hotels can achieve professionalism, but it's not easy to make guests feel genuine care, and this place truly has that ability.
Near check-out, I had a chat with the duty manager, Chloe. What began as a simple conversation unexpectedly became a memorable part of this stay. She meticulously detailed the design philosophy and spatial characteristics of the hotel's 42 rooms, patiently explaining everything from the layouts of different courtyards to the subtle differences between rooms. One could feel her genuine understanding and passion for this hotel, which in turn gave me a more complete appreciation for this hidden hutong gem. My special thanks also go to Chloe for her insights and hospitality.
Upon leaving, I felt that the most precious aspect of this hotel wasn't its luxury, but rather how it has preserved the ambiance of courtyard living in a rapidly changing city like Beijing.
Shade from trees, grey walls, summer clouds, birdsong.
These seemingly ordinary things collectively form a part of my memory of summer in Beijing.
If staying at a hotel is about experiencing a space, then the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing is more about experiencing a Beijing way of life. It may not be for everyone, but for those willing to slow down and embrace the city, beauty can be found everywhere here.

Honestly, staying at this hotel for my first time in Beijing truly broadened my horizons and changed my perception of the city.
My wife, our child, and I came to Beijing for the May Day holiday. She said since we're here, we might as well splurge and experience a traditional Beijing courtyard.
It truly delivered a top-tier luxury experience. The room layout was excellent, the courtyard views were charming, the service was impeccable, and the location was superb with an abundance of food delivery options. Breakfast was all made-to-order. The only thing we missed out on was the bar and hotel activities, but there's always next time.
I do have two minor points of discomfort to share, just for reference:
1. When our taxi pulled up to the hotel entrance, a staff member immediately asked me what I was doing there. I was a bit taken aback at first, then explained I was checking in. I'm not blaming him; perhaps I was dressed too casually, but it did feel a little off-putting.
2. On our last day, breakfast felt less crowded, but the food service was incredibly slow. We went at 10 AM, thinking half an hour would be plenty for breakfast, especially since the day before our food arrived in about 15 minutes. This time, we waited half an hour just for the dishes to arrive.
Overall, it was absolutely wonderful, and I'd definitely go back if I get the chance. It left a lasting impression, and thinking about it now still brings back such lovely memories, especially sitting in the courtyard at night, listening to music and watching the stars 💫

Come to Bvlgari Beijing and spend a delightful weekend filled with exquisite food! The pizza bar's creations, to use a popular phrase, were absolutely amazing. The beef tartare pizza with a special chili oil offered an unforgettable sensory experience – the tender beef combined with the exciting kick of the chili oil was simply divine. The lemon cheesecake pizza had no harsh sourness from the lemon at all; the overall balance with the cheese was perfect. And the strawberry blossom pizza was truly the highlight of highlights, with the nuts adding a brilliant, masterful touch! Manager Stephanie, who is both beautiful and kind, recommended two cocktails and a gelato that truly added the perfect finishing touch to this Bvlgari culinary journey.
Ambiance: The sophisticated elegance of Bvlgari provided double assurance of comfort and quality for this weekend.
Service: I must especially thank Manager Catherine for arranging such a perfect weekend experience, which was truly full of delights. Whether it was the Italian traditional cuisine workshop with the chef in the Bvlgari Suite, or every aspect of my three-day, two-night stay at Bvlgari, Catherine arranged everything so thoughtfully, making it feel truly like coming home to Beijing! Finally, a huge thank you to our chef – a bowl of lobster pasta and Italian dumplings brought back so many wonderful memories. A chef who can touch people's hearts with food is truly the greatest!

Service: The welcome and check-in process was seamless. A special shout-out to the hotel restaurant staff; I wanted to try the Italian breakfast, but worried the bread might not suit my taste, so they kindly offered a complimentary Chinese main dish. In the evening, returning to the hotel, there was an event hosted by another company. Someone stopped us, saying we needed to queue for the elevator. When the elevator arrived, staff informed us it was for the event floor and we'd have to wait for the next one. I believe if a hotel cannot ensure that guests and event attendees don't disturb each other, they should provide prior notice or even compensation. However, the hotel offered no explanation whatsoever. Such a basic error is not up to Bvlgari Hotel's service standards.
Amenities: The room featured double sinks, a smart toilet, and a vanity. The pool changing rooms were well-equipped with amenities, including a spin dryer. However, the air conditioning in the room was not effective; it was hot when we returned, and even set to 26 degrees on auto fan speed at night, I still woke up feeling hot.
Cleanliness: The room was cleaned promptly and was very tidy. The turndown service included removing the foot mat from the bed, which shows the hotel's attention to detail.
Environment: The hotel's bar and outdoor garden have a great ambiance. From the room, you can see the Liangma River and the CBD skyline, which is unique and worth experiencing. However, due to the evening event, the hotel's public areas became crowded and noisy.

This was my second stay at The Chedi. My last visit was before the floods, and it's still just as perfect. The customer service contacted me in advance and added me to a WeChat group. For my wife's birthday, they sent sparkling wine to the room, and when we ordered dinner at Rongfu Yan, they even included longevity noodles. My wife was very pleased, thank you! I heard that The Chedi ranks second among luxury wilderness hotels in China, with The Banyan Tree Lijiang being first. I've been to The Banyan Tree as well, and personally, I don't think it compares to The Chedi. I'll definitely be returning to The Chedi again.

The environment is elegant, with beautiful scenery at every turn – truly unique! The staff are warm and polite, and the room is comfortable. After a soak in the constant-temperature private hot spring and a refreshing shower, followed by a bowl of soothing nightcap soup, you can slowly take in the ancient village, historical sites, and old trees. Everywhere you look is a beautiful view…

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, surrounded by luxury shops, making it very convenient to get around.
The Mandarin Oriental's attention to detail is superb. The understated luxury and 'old money' vibe are precisely my style. The vanity room is spacious, and they prepared welcome fruits and snacks, a bottle of red wine, and even pear soup, along with a beautifully written welcome letter. It truly made me feel right at home.
Breakfast is a mix of buffet and à la carte, with fresh, organic ingredients and amazing flavors. I even had breakfast alongside the Russian ambassador at the next table! Sipping a coffee with a Forbidden City latte art design on the large terrace overlooking the Forbidden City, I truly experienced a taste of royal life. So happy! 😃

The service was exceptional, and I'd especially like to commend the front office team. We were incredibly well looked after during our stay. Alex, Aimyon, and Lina at the front desk were constantly helping us with room coordination, and Gemini from the concierge helped us plan our itinerary. The entire reception experience was fantastic. We'll definitely be back!

Even though it's no longer affiliated with a top-tier luxury brand, it's still worth a stay. The hotel itself is part of the Summer Palace's imperial gardens, which we specifically explored at night. The gardens are an intricate maze of carved balustrades, jade-like structures, and winding corridors, where time itself seems to shape the space. While the bustling crowds are just outside the walls, hotel guests have private, unlimited access to the Summer Palace through a special entrance, though a staff member needs to open the gate each time.
Afternoon tea is served by a small pond, shaded by weeping willows and surrounded by blooming flowers – perfect for a lingering late spring afternoon. While the setting is dreamy, the pastries were generally a bit too sweet for my liking. The breakfast restaurant, adorned with a 'Royal Cuisine' plaque, offers a semi-buffet. Emperors of old might not have enjoyed the variety and quality available today! The hot food selection includes both Chinese and Western options; while it might not be as bustling as other hotel breakfasts, the quality is excellent and the service impeccable.
Our room was upgraded to a suite with a thoughtfully designed layout. The bedding was luxurious and the pillows incredibly comfortable. The nine-compartment box filled with snacks was a delightful touch. Toiletries are presented in ceramic gourds, giving them the appearance of ancient elixirs. However, these ceramic bottles for shampoo and shower gel are a bit impractical; they're slippery and made me nervous about dropping and breaking them, and the conditioner was difficult to squeeze out. This could definitely be improved. We had to rush off, so we didn't get to experience many of the amenities, leaving us a good reason to return.

First of all, Jason at the front desk is very helpful and thoughtful. Not to mention the rest of the hotel staff were also friendly and helpful yet leaving you great space of privacy. We were very well taken care of.
We stayed in the courtyard suite which is lovely. It feels magical to stay at such a historical place.
Breakfast is not in buffet style but the selections offered are good enough especially the Chinese style breakfast. We also enjoyed the champagne and cold cuts platter.
Thrilled to find out the spa service operate until 11pm, which we can go to sleep straight after the massage after dinner.
On the other hand, the private access entrance to the summer palace is a plus point. As we don’t need to go through the usual public entrance that is full of people.
The complimentary traditional costume photoshoot was surprisingly good. The quality of the costumes and make up are easily comparable ( or better than) to the paid one offer outside.
Overall, we had a really good time throughout the stay where we were able to experience the tranquility and elegance of the Summer Palace. The team at Summer Palace Hotel done a good job!

The Peninsula Beijing is located in the heart of Wangfujing, which was very convenient for our family trip with the kids. A huge thank you to Ms. Ma Lan (Rita) for her meticulous attention to detail, and also to Ms. Zi Ludi (Ludi) and Mr. Wang Zhipeng (Brian) for their thoughtful arrangements. I also want to mention the front desk staff – when I left, I realized I hadn't saved my photos properly. If you see this message, please let me know! I must give a big thumbs up to the hotel. The room layout is very comfortable, and the Chinese restaurant offers excellent dishes. The customer service staff responded promptly to every request, making our stay a truly memorable experience. The room details were immaculately cleaned. The gym equipment, all Technogym, was also top-notch. The shopping arcade has a more comprehensive selection of brands than SKP or China World Mall. It was a delightful trip. The Peninsula Beijing is definitely worth a visit.

I chose this hotel, the Peninsula Beijing, because it's an all-suite hotel and I have a soft spot for the Peninsula brand. However, my overall stay was quite ordinary. The suite design feels a bit dated. Due to the shopping area in the lobby, the front desk is very small, and the service isn't as good as at the Peninsula Shanghai, there's a noticeable difference. It feels like a wasted opportunity for the Peninsula brand.

Halfway through my trip, I rarely write reviews, but the Rosewood Beijing truly exceeded my expectations. Initially, I had only planned to stay for one night, but I ended up extending it to three nights! Here’s why:
1. The service was incredibly attentive. From check-in to room amenities and the hotel's comprehensive facilities, including the tranquil executive lounge, it’s an ideal choice for a summer family trip. Despite a few minor hiccups, Pauling's thoughtful arrangements truly highlighted the Rosewood's brand charm. My top choices for Beijing used to be the Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula, or the Four Seasons, but now I’m definitely a Rosewood convert.
2. I particularly loved the 6th-floor wellness area. The pool and gym are separated, and the interplay of sunlight and water reflections is both beautiful and relaxing. The gym is spacious with diverse equipment. One afternoon, I even coincidentally saw a top-tier Chinese celebrity discreetly working out there.
3. The aesthetic design is excellent. Although the hotel has been open for a while, the attention to detail in its maintenance is evident. Having stayed in many luxury hotels in Beijing, the Rosewood consistently earns my trust across all aspects.
Special thanks again to Pauling, Jessi from the executive lounge, and Betty from the lobby. I look forward to my next stay!

I specifically wanted to thank the management team, Evey, Junel, and Cedric. I stayed here alone for a very important occasion, and while I initially expected it to be a lonely and awkward experience, I was cared for with such meticulous and gentle attention throughout my stay. Everything was so thoughtful, not just a formal, routine service, but genuinely relaxed and warm. Staying here felt like a comforting sense of coming home. Even though I was alone, I felt truly valued and well looked after, which is a rare and wonderful thing. My entire experience was perfect, and I will definitely choose Rosewood again on my next visit. My heartfelt thanks to the three staff members for their dedicated service.

The location couldn't be better! Right in the heart of Wangfujing, it's convenient for getting anywhere and perfectly blends with Beijing's bustling modernity and ancient charm. The Deluxe King Room I stayed in had a perfect view and was incredibly comfortable.
A special shout-out to the hotel's private butler team! Their service mindset is exceptional; they followed up throughout our stay, paid meticulous attention to details, and were quick to respond to any request and arrange everything perfectly. Their professionalism is top-notch 💯. The hardware facilities are luxurious, and the soft services are beyond reproach. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Beijing!

We were upgraded to a family suite, which the front desk mentioned is the only one of its kind. It has a slide bed and can also accommodate a crib, which is quite convenient. Although the hotel is a bit older, it's well-maintained and the facilities are quite comprehensive. The Chinese restaurant has excellent service, and the Michelin-starred restaurant maintains a decent standard. The gym, however, is far too small, lacks adequate equipment, and being in the basement, feels quite cramped. The hotel's location is very convenient for transportation, with a subway station nearby, making it easy to visit attractions like the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

The PuXuan Hotel and Spa, is definitely ONE OF A KIND. It is truly a luxurious experience.
We experienced several aspects of the hotel: room service, laundry, spa, and even special requests.
Our journey started when we arrived to the hotel at 8am. The staff welcomed us warmly and offered tot ake care of our luggage while we explored Beijing and came back to do the proper check-in. We stayed at the parking lobby for a while, and they never tried to push us out. (In other hotels they do).
Once we checked in, everything just kept improving. The rooms is simply magnificent, a “smart room” but in a really SMART. No over complicated controls, everything was user-friendly.
I want to highlight the design of the room, and specially THE BATHROOM. I loved the sower, everything was clean and offered a great shower experience.
Then the HOTEL SERVICES MY GOD, kudos to the all of the staff. We ordered room service and the menu was INCREDIBLE. We are from Mexico and they had Quesadillas, and a great wagyu burger! The service was quick and the food was delicious. The Creme Brulee was my favorite. We also request some laundry and MY GOD the quality of it. My linen shirt came back AS GOOD AS NEW, honestly. No single crease.
About the hotel SPA, it was a truly magical experience. I reserved a traditional Chinese Medicine massage and the service was great. Although, from what I’ve experienced in other hotel spas, the price for me was a little bit off, despite the ambiance and the quality of the room. One note is that the robe felt old, it had some loose threads (and I mean I know this is is a small detail, but with everything else being just perfect, it just felt out of place to be honest).
Now, the cherry on top WAS THEY NOTICED MY BIRTHDAY. Like, even i had forgotten it! Honestly! They went above and beyond to make this a truly special occasion for me! I was really touched by this present. With the overall experience I was really motivated to comeback to the PuXuan but with this small but significant detail I WILL DEFINITELY KEEP COMING BACK.
Needless to say the food, the breakfast, the overall quality of the place is spectacular. Yes, maybe it can feel too modern at times, but you can feel the Chinese hospitality and details through the hotel.
The hotel manager was kind enough to wave us goodbye at the checkout (and I loved her shoes by the way, she was so stylish). I personally want to thank her for keeping this high standards of services! THANK YOU!
Please BOOK The PuXuan, do not hesitate on it!

The room was absolutely satisfying, truly living up to its reputation as a design hotel. The service was excellent too, and the view from the window was lovely. The location is perfect; it's right by the Art Museum subway station, which is just one stop away from the pedestrian street. The art museum itself is right downstairs, and I was lucky enough to catch the Da Vinci exhibition. Longfu Temple is also just a short walk diagonally across from the hotel. In the evening, if the weather's good, the sunset views are fantastic. At night, you can head to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. For Jingshan Park and Beihai Park, I'd recommend an early morning visit to witness the amazing功夫 (kung fu) practiced by Beijing's elderly residents. For food, just search on review apps; delivery is also very fast. If I had to pick a minor flaw, it would be that the hotel entrance isn't very easy to find, and the navigation wasn't entirely accurate.
Complimentary fruit: They even surprised me with a small cake for my birthday.
Mini-bar drinks in the room are complimentary and replenished daily.

A butler was waiting for us while we parked, showing exceptional service. Upon checking in at the lobby, we were offered complimentary snacks and drinks. To my delight, they upgraded our room for free, allowing for a better view of Yanqi Lake. The room table had fruit and wine, and the butler had even prepared aromatherapy. Surprisingly, the bathroom floor was also thoughtfully equipped with a non-slip mat. The butler also brought our luggage to our room, and to my surprise, given the slightly chilly temperature, they even brought down a warm coat from the car – incredibly considerate! We had initially mentioned needing to get our luggage, but only remembered when they went to retrieve it, and then they thoughtfully brought us the warm coat! We also participated in an afternoon cultural tour, which provided a deeper understanding of the hotel's design style and philosophy. The food was excellent, and the hotel facilities, cleanliness, and environment were superb! Not to mention the butler's service – it was exceptional! I highly recommend this hotel to families visiting Yanqi Lake. If we go again in the future, we will definitely choose Yanbai Mountain Villa again!
- xxxxmmmmy
The hotel boasts stunning views of Yanqi Lake. I brought my parents to stay, and they upgraded us to a lake view room. The scenery was beautiful, and we could see the winter Yanqi Lake sparkling under the sunlight. We could sit on the bay window in the room, drink tea, and enjoy the view. The room facilities were complete, the bedding was comfortable, the restaurant food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Every aspect of our experience was great. The staff were friendly and professional, from guiding us during check-in to responding quickly to our daily needs. The hotel's cultural tour and tea ceremony experience were both wonderful, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the charm of Song dynasty aesthetics.
