Reviews From Real Travelers
When people talk about the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing, they often label it as a 'luxury hotel in the hutongs,' a 'hidden gem along the central axis,' or a 'masterpiece of the Qianmen regeneration project.' But if we set aside these external definitions and focus purely on the stay experience, the deepest impression it left on me can be summed up in two words: sheer comfort. This comfort doesn't stem from any single specific amenity, but rather from an overall feeling. Tucked away deep within Beijing's Qianmen hutongs, stepping through the gate from the bustling streets into the courtyard felt like entering a different dimension of time. Grey bricks, dark tiles, courtyard walls, and tree shadows – all elements were distinctly Beijing, yet without any forced emphasis on being 'Beijing.' The design didn't just stop at symbolism; instead, it re-organized the hutong courtyard lifestyle, truly allowing guests to live in a modern Beijing courtyard home. Beijing in the summer is particularly suited to this place. The afternoon sun dappled through the leaves onto the courtyard, with doves perched quietly on the branches. Sitting in the courtyard, watching the clouds drift slowly between the eaves and grey walls, you suddenly understand why old Beijingers always said, 'There must be a tree in the courtyard.' The tree not only provides shade but also marks the passage of time. The wind changes, the light changes, and the tree shadows change. Many mention its 'hidden location in the hutongs,' but what's truly worth experiencing isn't just the hidden aspect, but rather that elusive relationship with Beijing's urban culture. Outside the walls are the hustle and bustle of Qianmen, while inside, the unique sense of scale characteristic of courtyard living is preserved. Looking up, you see the sky; looking down, you see tree roots and青砖 (qingzhuan - traditional grey bricks); occasionally, birdsong can be heard. These seemingly ordinary details become precious in today's city. The service also left an excellent impression. It wasn't an overly enthusiastic kind of service, but rather a sincere and well-measured attentiveness. Help was always there when needed, yet they maintained an appropriate distance when not. Many high-end hotels can achieve professionalism, but it's not easy to make guests feel genuine care, and this place truly has that ability. Near check-out, I had a chat with the duty manager, Chloe. What began as a simple conversation unexpectedly became a memorable part of this stay. She meticulously detailed the design philosophy and spatial characteristics of the hotel's 42 rooms, patiently explaining everything from the layouts of different courtyards to the subtle differences between rooms. One could feel her genuine understanding and passion for this hotel, which in turn gave me a more complete appreciation for this hidden hutong gem. My special thanks also go to Chloe for her insights and hospitality. Upon leaving, I felt that the most precious aspect of this hotel wasn't its luxury, but rather how it has preserved the ambiance of courtyard living in a rapidly changing city like Beijing. Shade from trees, grey walls, summer clouds, birdsong. These seemingly ordinary things collectively form a part of my memory of summer in Beijing. If staying at a hotel is about experiencing a space, then the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing is more about experiencing a Beijing way of life. It may not be for everyone, but for those willing to slow down and embrace the city, beauty can be found everywhere here.

What makes this hotel special is that its forty-plus rooms are scattered in different locations throughout the hutongs. This means your room might be next to a local residence rather than another hotel room. The soundproofing is excellent; we weren't disturbed by any noise while sleeping. The hotel also offers complimentary bicycles for guests, which I highly recommend taking advantage of. A special shout-out goes to our butler, Ethan. His service was attentive, detailed, and responsible, always delivered with a warm smile. He's truly an exceptional butler. We also had the pleasure of meeting Marcus, the Director of Housekeeping, during our stay. His enthusiastic greeting left a fantastic first impression of the hotel, and he deserves high praise. Considering both the facilities and the service, this hotel ranks among the top luxury hotels in China. Aside from being quite expensive, there are no other significant drawbacks.

Our stay was excellent. The room had a view of the Liangma River, and I assume every room offers a different angle of the river. The room was private and quiet, and impeccably clean. The turndown service, which included homemade drinks in a thermos, was a thoughtful touch. The breakfast selection was vast; we tried both Chinese and American options, and both were delicious. Our butler, Bitty, provided exceptional service from check-in, always responsive to our needs and checking in on our family daily. We received complimentary fruit and dessert upon arrival, and snacks were delivered to our room every evening. Overall, the service was incredibly attentive. We will definitely choose the Bulgari Hotel again on our next visit to Beijing.

Overall, I was quite satisfied, especially since all my requests were met. The hotel's location is excellent, and the room is spacious, but there are still some small details that could be improved. For instance, the complimentary fruit and cake weren't great; the peach was a bit bruised, and I didn't even touch the oranges. I only took one sip of the turndown drink. The turndown service only provided lip balm, no hand cream, and there was only one set of toiletries in the room; I had to ask for an additional set. It was surprising that the juice in the minibar was chargeable. However, the breakfast was a highlight. The staff clearly explained the characteristics of each set meal, and they even packed up what we couldn't finish.

This was my second stay at The Chedi. My last visit was before the floods, and it's still just as perfect. The customer service contacted me in advance and added me to a WeChat group. For my wife's birthday, they sent sparkling wine to the room, and when we ordered dinner at Rongfu Yan, they even included longevity noodles. My wife was very pleased, thank you! I heard that The Chedi ranks second among luxury wilderness hotels in China, with The Banyan Tree Lijiang being first. I've been to The Banyan Tree as well, and personally, I don't think it compares to The Chedi. I'll definitely be returning to The Chedi again.

The environment is elegant, with beautiful scenery at every turn – truly unique! The staff are warm and polite, and the room is comfortable. After a soak in the constant-temperature private hot spring and a refreshing shower, followed by a bowl of soothing nightcap soup, you can slowly take in the ancient village, historical sites, and old trees. Everywhere you look is a beautiful view…

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, surrounded by luxury shops, making it very convenient to get around. The Mandarin Oriental's attention to detail is superb. The understated luxury and 'old money' vibe are precisely my style. The vanity room is spacious, and they prepared welcome fruits and snacks, a bottle of red wine, and even pear soup, along with a beautifully written welcome letter. It truly made me feel right at home. Breakfast is a mix of buffet and à la carte, with fresh, organic ingredients and amazing flavors. I even had breakfast alongside the Russian ambassador at the next table! Sipping a coffee with a Forbidden City latte art design on the large terrace overlooking the Forbidden City, I truly experienced a taste of royal life. So happy! 😃

This hotel offers a very comfortable stay. The room facilities are well-maintained, the breakfast is delicious, the bar serves amazing drinks, and the location is superb. More importantly, the service is exceptionally good. The hotel staff are very attentive to guests' requests and feedback, and you can tell they work hard to provide a comfortable, pleasant, and satisfying stay. Stena, Osgood, Lina, Yulia, Mavis, and housekeeping staff Fen Fen are all warm, friendly, and professional.

My stay at the頤和園賓館 (Summer Palace Hotel) was absolutely perfect. The location is unbeatable, right next to the Summer Palace with a private entrance, so you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the peaceful scenery of the gardens early in the morning. The hotel itself is designed in a traditional Chinese courtyard (siheyuan) style, with an antique charm and a serene, quiet courtyard – truly an oasis of calm in the midst of everything. The room decor was elegant and full of historical character. It was meticulously cleaned, and the bedding was soft and comfortable. We received complimentary delicate pastries and fruit upon arrival, a lovely touch showing great attention to detail. The staff were incredibly gentle, attentive, and polite, responding quickly to any requests. Breakfast offered a rich variety, with authentic old Beijing specialty snacks. Overall, the privacy is excellent, and the environment is refined and elegant. If you're visiting the Summer Palace, you absolutely won't be disappointed by this hotel. I highly recommend it and will definitely choose to stay here again next time.

I mentioned beforehand that I needed wheelchair access, and I really appreciate the hotel's efforts. They had a ramp set up upon arrival and gave us a conveniently located courtyard room. Staff even helped lift the wheelchair on the way to the garden, which I'm very grateful for. Of course, ancient buildings always have their inconveniences, but that's part of their charm, and we were happy to work around them. Breakfast was semi-buffet style with a great à la carte selection. There was a small bread in the buffet that was delicious, and I must rave about the iced Americano – it was the best one I've had in days!

The Peninsula Beijing is located in the heart of Wangfujing, which was very convenient for our family trip with the kids. A huge thank you to Ms. Ma Lan (Rita) for her meticulous attention to detail, and also to Ms. Zi Ludi (Ludi) and Mr. Wang Zhipeng (Brian) for their thoughtful arrangements. I also want to mention the front desk staff – when I left, I realized I hadn't saved my photos properly. If you see this message, please let me know! I must give a big thumbs up to the hotel. The room layout is very comfortable, and the Chinese restaurant offers excellent dishes. The customer service staff responded promptly to every request, making our stay a truly memorable experience. The room details were immaculately cleaned. The gym equipment, all Technogym, was also top-notch. The shopping arcade has a more comprehensive selection of brands than SKP or China World Mall. It was a delightful trip. The Peninsula Beijing is definitely worth a visit.

This veteran luxury hotel truly lives up to its reputation. The front desk staff was fantastic; they upgraded my room for free upon arrival. After a long day out, I returned to find my slippers already neatly placed. The Peninsula's all-suite design is definitely a highlight for me, and every staff member greeted us with a polite smile. The breakfast was rich and delicious, and they were very accommodating to all our requests, fulfilling them quickly. It was a wonderful experience, and I'll definitely stay here again!

My stay at Rosewood Beijing was an excellent experience overall! The hotel environment is elegant and comfortable, both the rooms and public areas are of high quality, and the service was incredibly attentive, making the entire check-in process very pleasant. I'd especially like to thank Ms. Crystal Zhang at the front desk. She was very patient, professional, and friendly during check-in. She proactively anticipated guest needs, and communication with her was incredibly comfortable. Even though it was just a small part of the check-in process, her enthusiasm and attention to detail truly added a special warmth to this stay. I'm extremely satisfied with this stay, five-star recommended! I also hope the hotel will acknowledge Ms. Crystal Zhang's excellent service. Next time I'm in Beijing, Rosewood Beijing will definitely be my top choice.

I chose this hotel again for my trip, as I really like this brand. I've stayed at their Sanya property as well, in a room with a pool and ocean view. The hotel's design is stylish, minimalist, and elegant. I was quite satisfied with the front desk and room service, and the several restaurants I tried had good food and service. The breakfast restaurant service was also good. The only minor flaw was that they didn't allow taking food away from breakfast (understandable, perhaps it's a policy), but I feel a hotel of this caliber shouldn't do that. It seems a bit stingy. Hotels like Rosewood Sanya and The Temple House Chengdu don't have this policy; in fact, they even proactively offer to pack food for guests, which further enhances their brand appeal. (After all, the cost for one night isn't cheap. Guests staying at this level aren't looking for small freebies.) Overall, it was still good.

We had a wonderful stay, and I was very satisfied. The front desk staff saw I had a child and kindly upgraded us to a more spacious room, which was very convenient as it allowed my aunt and me to have separate areas to look after the little one. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful, even assisting with our luggage. The toiletries are consistently excellent; the orange-scented lotion was a hit with the kids. The hotel is well-maintained, and the pleasant scent in the room was a nice touch. We enjoyed dinner at the Zijin Pavilion on the third floor, and the service was outstanding. Breakfast was served on the first floor and had a good selection of Western dishes. My child keeps saying they want to stay here again. Highly recommended!

The room was clean, tidy, and odor-free. The butler service was excellent, and breakfast was rich and varied. I'll definitely stay here again. The room was spacious, and this stay exceeded my expectations. The room was bright and airy, with meticulous cleaning, and the bathroom was spotless and odor-free. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, and it was quiet at night, ensuring a good night's sleep. The front desk staff were friendly, and check-in and check-out were efficient, with prompt responses to any requests. The location is superb, with convenient access to dining and transportation. It's a fantastic option for its price point, my top choice for travel, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

The PuXuan Hotel and Spa, is definitely ONE OF A KIND. It is truly a luxurious experience. We experienced several aspects of the hotel: room service, laundry, spa, and even special requests. Our journey started when we arrived to the hotel at 8am. The staff welcomed us warmly and offered tot ake care of our luggage while we explored Beijing and came back to do the proper check-in. We stayed at the parking lobby for a while, and they never tried to push us out. (In other hotels they do). Once we checked in, everything just kept improving. The rooms is simply magnificent, a “smart room” but in a really SMART. No over complicated controls, everything was user-friendly. I want to highlight the design of the room, and specially THE BATHROOM. I loved the sower, everything was clean and offered a great shower experience. Then the HOTEL SERVICES MY GOD, kudos to the all of the staff. We ordered room service and the menu was INCREDIBLE. We are from Mexico and they had Quesadillas, and a great wagyu burger! The service was quick and the food was delicious. The Creme Brulee was my favorite. We also request some laundry and MY GOD the quality of it. My linen shirt came back AS GOOD AS NEW, honestly. No single crease. About the hotel SPA, it was a truly magical experience. I reserved a traditional Chinese Medicine massage and the service was great. Although, from what I’ve experienced in other hotel spas, the price for me was a little bit off, despite the ambiance and the quality of the room. One note is that the robe felt old, it had some loose threads (and I mean I know this is is a small detail, but with everything else being just perfect, it just felt out of place to be honest). Now, the cherry on top WAS THEY NOTICED MY BIRTHDAY. Like, even i had forgotten it! Honestly! They went above and beyond to make this a truly special occasion for me! I was really touched by this present. With the overall experience I was really motivated to comeback to the PuXuan but with this small but significant detail I WILL DEFINITELY KEEP COMING BACK. Needless to say the food, the breakfast, the overall quality of the place is spectacular. Yes, maybe it can feel too modern at times, but you can feel the Chinese hospitality and details through the hotel. The hotel manager was kind enough to wave us goodbye at the checkout (and I loved her shoes by the way, she was so stylish). I personally want to thank her for keeping this high standards of services! THANK YOU! Please BOOK The PuXuan, do not hesitate on it!

The room was absolutely satisfying, truly living up to its reputation as a design hotel. The service was excellent too, and the view from the window was lovely. The location is perfect; it's right by the Art Museum subway station, which is just one stop away from the pedestrian street. The art museum itself is right downstairs, and I was lucky enough to catch the Da Vinci exhibition. Longfu Temple is also just a short walk diagonally across from the hotel. In the evening, if the weather's good, the sunset views are fantastic. At night, you can head to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. For Jingshan Park and Beihai Park, I'd recommend an early morning visit to witness the amazing功夫 (kung fu) practiced by Beijing's elderly residents. For food, just search on review apps; delivery is also very fast. If I had to pick a minor flaw, it would be that the hotel entrance isn't very easy to find, and the navigation wasn't entirely accurate. Complimentary fruit: They even surprised me with a small cake for my birthday. Mini-bar drinks in the room are complimentary and replenished daily.

A butler was waiting for us while we parked, showing exceptional service. Upon checking in at the lobby, we were offered complimentary snacks and drinks. To my delight, they upgraded our room for free, allowing for a better view of Yanqi Lake. The room table had fruit and wine, and the butler had even prepared aromatherapy. Surprisingly, the bathroom floor was also thoughtfully equipped with a non-slip mat. The butler also brought our luggage to our room, and to my surprise, given the slightly chilly temperature, they even brought down a warm coat from the car – incredibly considerate! We had initially mentioned needing to get our luggage, but only remembered when they went to retrieve it, and then they thoughtfully brought us the warm coat! We also participated in an afternoon cultural tour, which provided a deeper understanding of the hotel's design style and philosophy. The food was excellent, and the hotel facilities, cleanliness, and environment were superb! Not to mention the butler's service – it was exceptional! I highly recommend this hotel to families visiting Yanqi Lake. If we go again in the future, we will definitely choose Yanbai Mountain Villa again!

The hotel boasts stunning views of Yanqi Lake. I brought my parents to stay, and they upgraded us to a lake view room. The scenery was beautiful, and we could see the winter Yanqi Lake sparkling under the sunlight. We could sit on the bay window in the room, drink tea, and enjoy the view. The room facilities were complete, the bedding was comfortable, the restaurant food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Every aspect of our experience was great. The staff were friendly and professional, from guiding us during check-in to responding quickly to our daily needs. The hotel's cultural tour and tea ceremony experience were both wonderful, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the charm of Song dynasty aesthetics.
