"This was our first time back in at least 8 years. We stayed in a suite with a small balcony. The room was large and on two levels, a sofa area being in the lower area. The room was quite warm so had to have the balcony doors open for a while. Unfortunately couldn’t do this through the night as the road is quite noisy outside. You can’t control the temperature in the room as it is a standard temperature pumped throughout the hotel. The bed was comfy and the bathroom large. Tea and coffee making facilities. Our one observation that we thought was poor was that a turn down service was done, but the mugs we had used for a cup of tea in the afternoon hadn’t been cleared so were therefore not clean if we wanted tea in bed in the morning. We had dinner in the restaurant (7 course tasting menu) which was fabulous. The only thing we didn’t like was the final dessert which was a fabulous chocolate dish, but had olive oil poured over it. Wasn’t to our taste! Breakfast the following morning was good. A good selection of items to chose from. All in all an enjoyable stay and won’t leave it so long until next time."
"Fabulous Hotel, Clean, friendly staff, had a lovely couple of days relaxing, The only downside was the lack of disabled facilities. When I first made the booking I was told no disabled rooms, I use a stick not a wheelchair so that was ok. Unfortunately I was not expecting, stairs to get to the sauna, steam room, treatment rooms, and no easy way of getting into the pool. As I was with a friend for a Spa couple of days, it would have been helpful at time of booking to be told the Spa was not disabled friendly, even though it may have effected my decision to stay, I managed to use the the sauna and steam room , but I did struggle. Anyone using a wheelchair would not have been able to use any of the amenities except the Bar and dining area. Aside from this the hotel and spa and lovely, excellent service and the food was fabulous. "
"We like the concept. Spa is really small and we were a little disappointed to be honest but the restaurant and food are really delicious and staff was really nice and helpful so we can give strong 4 stars for this place. It is overpriced for what it is especially compare to other spa in the neighbourhood. Huge potential especially as the service is outstanding."

"Greater nicely on arrival, shown to our room on ground floor called penclose. Room decorated shabby chic, good size and had tea and coffee. Bath nice with heated floor. Bed comfortable. Food not bad in the evening, but a little over priced. Breakfast good with lots of choice. Only issues. Room right on the road, and I mean 6 inches from the room so even though triple glazing you heard traffic most of the evening. Fire exit light right in the room, bright enough to read at night which made sleeping hard. Pillows too soft. Door to courtyard outside room squeaked all night, even woke us up. Told lady as she said people had been complaining for weeks, WD40!!! Windows in bathroom dirty. 4 poster bed clearly had been broken. Massive plus though staff were excellent. So I’m afraid average 3."
"The Crab & Boar is a lovely pub/hotel with a superb chef providing lovely meals. Our room was on the ground floor and had a hot tub on its own private little patio; what a treat that was to sit in on an otherwise cold and blustery day. The room was decorated in a mash-up of shabby-chic and a kind of steampunk industrial way - which sounds odd but actually works very well. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and kind and the overall ambience is lovely. "
"Fab destination pub to celebrate an anniversary. Rooms good, loved the hot tub, staff lovely and food & wine list excellent. Would be a brilliant place for a big celebration dinner with fantastic private dining rooms for groups. Only stopped from getting 5 stars as some tired decor and maintenance issues which would be acceptable but for the 5 star prices. Definitely worth the visit though. "

"The hotel is in a lovely spot The staff are very friendly and the food is superb The room we stayed in with our dog overlooked the canal and I could picture us sat outside in the summer with drink in hand people and narrowbaoat watching so it was a shame our weather wasn't good and darkness draws in by 5pm but we will be back"
"Super food, great atmosphere and really comfy rooms. The gin and tonics with a guest gin were pretty special too. Cannot wait to come back in the summer . Also has a private dining room. Highly recommended."

"We stayed over on a Saturday night after visiting family in the village. The suite was very nice, with lovely views behind, lovely to see the wildlife first thing in the morning. The pub is very nice indeed, the only disappointment was not seeing it supported by the locals. The bar was very quiet for a Saturday night, perhaps it was a one off or maybe they can’t see the gem they have on their own door step. "
"We had such a lovely stay at the Queens Arms. Would definitely recommend! The pub was buzzing when we arrived as 6 Nations Rugby on. Lovely to see a pub full of locals and we both felt very welcome. Our evening meal was delicious. We stayed in the Hardy room. Wow what a comfy bed! And .... loved the bathroom! Will definitely be returning."
"The rooms are nicely dressed and also cleanliness is felt everywhere in the building. Great food in the pub underneath as well as great breakfast. Friendly staff as well as very cosy environment. Highly suggest"

"The Crown & Horns is a beautiful country pub built in the 1700s. It has a friendly bar and an intimate restaurant serving freshly cooked food. The hotel is attached to the pub but is a newer building built around a central patio area. The bar area is full of character and has a wide range of traditional ales. Many traditional pub dishes are served and you can choose items from the daily specials board."

"We live in Newbury and last visited, what is now the Pheasant, several years ago. As a Wedding Anniversary treat and having had positive feed-back from friends, we decided to revisit the Pheasant. And what a pleasant surprise! Friendly welcome from the charming staff and a delightful warm table next to the central wood-burning stove. The Pheasant has had a splendidly quirky interior decor change, obviously based on the pheasant and country- life. I hit my head on the “duck” sign on the front door just like most entrants! Pate starters and scrumptious venison pies were excellent. Prices were very reasonable for such a splendid meal. We strongly recommend the Pheasant and shall return, (remembering to “duck” at the entrance!)"
"We stayed here after a visit to Highclere Castle. It’s a beautiful old building dating back to Tudor times. I love staying in these typically British, historical places, full of quirky features. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We dined in the pub during the evening. Really lovely food, cooked to perfection and definitely home-made. Our room was clean and comfortable. Personally, I don’t like the coffee machines that deliver a luke-warm coffee and by the time the milk is in, it is cold. I would prefer hot fresh coffee instead. Unfortunately, the shower was luke-warm too - even on the top setting. I also think the room needed a chair for the dressing table. I had to perch a mirror on the windowsill and sit on the bed to do my hair and makeup. Our breakfast was fresh and tasty. Would return despite the couple of hiccups. Highly recommend."
"With lockdown in full swing the resourceful owners at The Pheasant have set up a Friday and Saturday night take away service. You can order from a 3 course menu and either pick up, or if local pay a bit extra for delivery. We went traditional with Fish and Chips for a Friday night supper - it was amazing. Delivered piping hot to my car in the car park and bang on time too. Lady who delivered it was wearing a mask and placed it in the boot of the car at my request meaning no risk of any contact whatsoever. Great food, great service and a good price. What is not to like?"
