Top 10 The Portland Hotels

We stayed here for one night and I would definitely advise people to avoid this hotel where possible. I had multiple conversations with various people in the team, before arrival, regarding ensuring that the price was not mentioned during our arrival, due to this being a surprise. I was told that pre payment could not be taken and received multiple contradicting messages from the various people that I spoke to, but was assured that the price would not be mentioned on arrival. However this was not the case and was the first thing that we were greeted with (rudely). Check in took way longer than was necessary and it was clear that the receptionist did not know general information about this hotel such as the times of breakfast/dinner and the opening hours of the leisure centre. After her checking multiple times and having to recheck whether we had breakfast (after telling us 2 minutes before that we definitely had breakfast), we were eventually given our room keys and what we saw when we arrived at our room was horrific. The room was extremely unclean with hair in the bed, smudges all over the walls and mirrors, dirt in the shower and it later came to our attention that there was no hairdryer. There was also blood on the curtain and the window was so dirty that you could barely see out of it. When we brought all of this up with reception, we were simply told 'sorry' and given no alternative. Breakfast was the best part about the stay, however the glasses and tables were extremely dirty. The pictures online make the hotel look much nicer than it is, particularly the pool and gym as they were both tiny and the person working on the counter at the leisure centre was unfriendly and unapproachable. I would never recommend this hotel to anybody and you are being robbed by paying the extortionate prices for what I would state as a 2* hotel. I am extremely disappointed with how much we were charged for this awful hotel. Please do avoid at all costs. I am including pictures so you know to avoid.

Train cancelled and then didn't get to the hotel until midnight. Had a quick overnight stay. Moderate hotel.

We've had a splendid time at this hotel. Once again, GG has made it such a pleasurable experience for us. So sorry that he's taking a break but let's hope he comes back again as well as us this is our second stay at this hotel. We so love the TLC that has been given to us. A fabulous place to stay with a great staff team. The catering was fantastic both for the conference and breakfast which had a great deal of choice. The room was extremely comfortable and I slept very well despite facing the sea... which was an added bonus.
