Location: No. 10, Yancheng East Road, Guangling District, Yangzhou City

Geyuan Garden was built in the Qing Dynasty on the site of the former Shouzhi Garden of the Ming Dynasty. At the time, the garden was planted with bamboo. Because the bamboo leaves were shaped like the Chinese character for “Ge”, the garden was thus called “Ge Garden.” The four rockeries in the garden are very unique; after making it around the garden, it’s as if the visitor has experienced spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Geyuan Garden is not large and can be divided into three areas: the northern bamboo viewing area, the central flower garden, and the southern residential area. Compared with other traditional Chinese gardens, the essence of Geyuan Garden lies in the art of the rockeries with the theme of the four seasons. In addition to the rockeries, walking in the northern bamboo forest is a very pleasant experience. Even during hot summer days, walking in the green bamboo forest often feels quite cool.

It focuses on the genesis and artistic achievements of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. Texts and images introduce the lives of the Eight Eccentrics and their painting works are displayed, although the paintings are mostly imitations.

Day 5 | Afternoon

After finishing the tour at Yangzhou Baguai Memorial Hall, you can head to Wang's Little Garden, the most worth visiting place around the corner.

Wang's Little Garden

Opening Hours: 7:30-17:15

Ticket Price: 15 RMB

Recommended Length of Stay: 1-1 Hours

Location: No. 18,Dongquanmen Historic District, Guangling District, Yangzhou City

Wang's Xiaoyuan was the residence of the salt merchants in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. The owner of the house, Wang Zhuming, was originally an Huizhou merchant, so here you can enjoy the architectural style of the combination of the three carvings of Huizhou and Jiangnan gardens. The integration of Western-style furniture is another feature. In addition, you can explore the secrets of salt merchants, find treasure caves, basements and many other organs. Wang's Court is located in the Dongquanmen Historic District, which is parallel to and not far from Dongguan Street. It is said that there is a garden in Dongguan Street, and there is Wang's Garden at the East Circle Gate. However, there is not a garden with many people in Wang's Garden, which is suitable for tourists who like tranquility. The gate of Xiaoyuan is simple and unpretentious, but once you enter it, it is different. First of all, I saw a beautiful brick-carved Buddhist shrine embedded on the wall facing us. Then I turned to the right, and it was a small garden. The pebbles on the ground made up various patterns that imply happiness, longevity and well-being. From April to May, I went to Yangzhou to enjoy Qionghua flowers. It's a good time, and there is a hundred-year-old Qionghua in the garden. Behind the small garden is the main building of Wang's Xiaoyuan, which is arranged in a nine-square grid. The Shude Hall in the first row is the room for receiving guests. Between the 6 "grids" on the left and the 3 "grids" on the right of the "Jiugongge" is a north-south alley of fire. The long and narrow masonry alley gives people a deep feeling of a courtyard, and tourists love to take pictures here. The buildings on the East Road are quite special. Wang Zhuming’s eldest son, Wang Taijie, led three younger brothers to renovate it, and it has the characteristics of combining Chinese and Western styles. The first room on East Road, Chunhui Room, has German chandeliers. The room behind Chunhui Room has sliding doors and sliding glass windows. In summer, the glass can be removed and replaced with screen windows. If you look around carefully, you can also find a treasure hole 1.5 meters deep under the wooden floor of a wing room. Turning right out of East Road is the kitchen. From the five cauldrons, you can see the prosperity of the Wang family at that time. Out of the kitchen is the back garden. There is a well in the east garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen", and there is a servant's room at the back. The bathroom to the west of the servant's room is covered with Western-style tiles, and the bathtub is imported from France. There is a basement for the owner to hide in the west garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen". The study in the north of the garden is equipped with western-style stained glass windows, and a secret door is hidden behind the mirror in the northwest corner of the room. Visitors can be seen directly from Huoxiang, which is directly opposite to the study. If there is danger, the owner can escape from various organs. After you have seen the sedan chairs at the west end of the West Garden of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen", you can turn back from the west road of the main building, and visit Xiazhong Road. Walk from the boat hall to the small garden "Kexixiu" in the southwest corner of Wang's Xiaoyuan. Like all gardens in the south of the Yangtze River, the garden is dotted with rockeries. After such a circle, the entire Wang's Xiaoyuan is almost visited. If you go out from the back door of "Xiaoyuan Chunshen" in the back garden of Wang's Xiaoyuan, it is the Yangzhou Paper-cutting Museum, which does not belong to Wang's Xiaoyuan, but you can visit it if you are interested.

Guanyin Mountain is in the north of Slender West Lake, and there are far fewer tourists than Daming Temple not far to the west. Guanyin Mountain originally had the Milou of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty, and a temple was built after the Song Dynasty. The uphill road leading to the temple is tortuous, with yellow low walls on both sides. The buildings in the temple are criss-crossed, not arranged along the central axis, like a labyrinth. The Buddha statues in Guanyin Mountain are very distinctive. Unlike ordinary temples, where "Sakyamuni" is the main statue, other Buddha statues are all starry and holding the moon. Here, "Bodhisattva" is the main body, and four famous Buddhist mountain Bodhisattvas are enshrined at the same time. The main people who come to Guanyin Mountain to worship Buddha are locals. On the 19th day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, the scene of few tourists will change, and many good men and women will come to offer incense to Guanyin Bodhisattva. Although Guanyin Mountain is one of the commanding heights of Yangzhou, because there are many vegetations blocking the line of sight, the angle of looking at the Slender West Lake is not very good, and it is not comparable to the Qiling Pagoda of Daming Temple. Going out from the gate of Guanyin Mountain and going around from the east to the back, it is the site of Tangcheng. What catches the eye is the lush vegetation, and the bustling scene of the Tang Dynasty can no longer be seen.

Day 9 | Afternoon

Viburnum Temple

Qionghua Temple was built in the Han Dynasty, and most of the buildings seen now are modern reconstructions. The archway at the entrance of the Taoist Temple has the three characters "Fanliguan" written on it. When you enter the mountain gate behind the archway, you can see the Sanqing Hall, the main hall. The hall was originally built by the Huainan Jiedushi Gao Piao in the second year of Zhonghe in Tang Xizong ( 882 AD) was built. In front of the Sanqing Palace are ginkgo biloba, dragon claw locust, Qionghua, and old elm. Although the Qionghua is no longer the original of the past, it does not hinder the enthusiasm of tourists to come to appreciate the flowers. When Qionghua is in full bloom, each cluster has eight small flowers surrounding the center stamen, like a white jade plate, very beautiful. The garden behind the Sanqing Palace is small and exquisite. The Qionghua Terrace inside is related to the story of Wu Jingzi's downfall in his later years, the author of "Confucian History". In addition, there is also the remains of a jade hook ancient well in the Taoist temple. Calligraphy and painting exhibitions are sometimes held in Qionghuaguan. In addition, it is adjacent to Yangzhou No. 1 Middle School. Sometimes, the sound of reading aloud can be heard, which is quite literary. Tomb of Emperor Yang of Sui

Opening Hours: Open from 8:30am-5:00pm

Ticket Price: 20 RMB

Recommended Length of Stay: 1-1 Hours

Location: Longwei Road (North of Leitang, Huaisi Town) No. 102, West Road, Yu Er Village, Yu Town, Hanjiang District, Yangzhou City

The Mausoleum of Emperor Yang of Sui Dynasty is located in the northern suburbs of Yangzhou. It was built by later generations and imitates the architectural style of the Sui Dynasty. Although it is a little imposing, it is not large in size and does not meet the specifications of the emperor's tomb system. In addition, the location is remote and there are few tourists. The cemetery was deserted, perhaps even more sighing for his life. At the end of the Sui Dynasty, Yu Wenhua launched a mutiny in Yangzhou to force Yang Guang to death and was buried under the Liuzhu Hall of Jiangdu Palace. After the Tang Dynasty pacified the south of the Yangtze River, it was relocated to the Pinggang in the south of Leitang, 4 kilometers north of today's Yangzhou City, with emperor rituals. After that, the imperial mausoleum was destroyed until Ruan Yuan, a university scholar in the 12th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1807), built a stele for it. From south to north, the cemetery is built with stone arches, mausoleum gates, thunder ponds, stone bridges, altars, Shinto, city walls, stone towers, tombs, etc. The tombs are very neat and flat-topped pyramids, 12 meters high, with four sides. All are regular isosceles trapezoids. One of the two side halls in the tomb area displays historical materials about the life of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty, and the other is a calligraphy and painting room, where the works of well-known calligraphers and painters in Jiangsu Province and Yangzhou City are hung. With the discovery of another suspected Sui Yangdi tomb in Caozhuang, Situ Village, Xihu Town, Yangzhou, the Sui Yangdi Mausoleum located in Huaier Village, Huaisi Town, Yangzhou is suspected to be a fake tomb, but because this tomb restored by Ruan Yuan in the Qing Dynasty still belongs to Cultural relics, if you want to recall the turbulent history of the Sui Dynasty reaching its peak in the hands of Emperor Yang and then dying in his hands, there is no harm in visiting it.

Day 10 | Afternoon

Now we come to another great highlight in the city: Xiaopan Valley.

Xiaopan Valley

Opening Hours: Open from 8:30am-4:30pm

Ticket Price: 20 RMB

Recommended Length of Stay: 1-1 Hours

Location: Guangling, Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China

Xiaopangu is located in Dingjiawan Dashu Lane. It was rebuilt by Zhou Fu, the governor of Liangjiang in the 30th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1904). The rockery peaks in the park are dangerous and dangerous, Cangyan explores the water, the valleys are deep and the stone paths are circling, so it is named "Xiaopangu". Xiaopangu has a strict layout, adapting measures to local conditions and creating a landscape that follows the shape. The arrangement of mountains, water, buildings and shoreways in the garden is all ingenious. The rock walls are steep, the valleys are deep and curved, the corridors and halls are curved and straight with the terrain, and the trails are recessed and open to seclusion. Although it is artificially built, it is like a natural picture.
