Minoa Athens Hotel

The best thing about this hotel was the staff. Everyone there treated us like family. When we got there we had a problem figuring out the A/C and they were all over it. When we left, they practically carried us to our taxi, which was already waiting for us. The room was comfortable. The location is a short walk to the Metro station, which we used extensive. Syntagma Square and the Acropolis were just a few stops away.

The area is a bit degraded, but hotel is very close to metro station, that allows you to reach the main attractions in few minutes. Hotel is simple with a bit old furniture and small bathroom, but clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Overall great value for money.

The Minoa Hotel, not to be confused with another Minoa Hotel (an informal beachfront hotel with a pool), is located in Athens. When we entered the hotel, the lobby was beautiful. We were greeted by a friendly host who gave us our room key and a bottle of cold water. It has a 3 person elevator. The rooms were a very good size. We had 2 rooms: 1 with a single and double bed, and 1 with two single beds. There is a closet with hangers, air conditioning and a small fridge (no iron). Something to note however, is the lack of plug in outlets (we only found 3 plugs). Luckily, we brought an adapter that allowed for 1 outlet to make many USB ports so we were still okay. The shower had a good water pressure and was a great temperature. The beds were very comfy. Some rooms have just a shower, and some have a bathtub. Downstairs, attached to the hotel, was a little Cafe ("Dimello"). It served delicious homemade snacks and sandwiches. It also had a variety of hot and cold drinks. The hotel is a 3 minute walk to the Athens Line 2 Metro (Metaxourghio. This is the stop located west of Omonoia Square). When you leave, you drop your key at the front desk for safety. The wifi was perfect.

We had a wonderful experience. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and even called taxis for us when we needed them. The rooms were quaint and clean. It is a great location not far from many of the historical sites.

I would not recommend this hotel based on our experience this past October. First, the photographs posted here did not match the actual property. Its quite run down and in a middle of a very busy noisy street. Second, the room had all windows open. Broken furniture. Horrible mattresses. It was the worst kind of experience you would want if you went with ur family to a new country for a visit. Third, upon arriving we left the property within 1 hour. But the hotel refused to refund our money on any percentage. We had 2 separate bookings, and the hotel refused to give anything back. We had to right away make reservations with Novotel Athens and leave this property. It was expensive but we had good nights sleep plus better everything overall. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. (The only good was, the receptionist lady. Who was very helpful and kind towards our child)

I can not say enough good things about this hotel. It, of course, is a budget hotel which means that, if you expect the services of a five stars hotel, you will probably get dissapointed but if you simply look for a lovely, clean, safe place located just 5 minutes from the metro that allows you to reach the city center in a few stops, then search no more. The staff is very friendly, some of them speak Italian and they all speak English. I had an issue when there were rude people in the room next to mine who screamed, cried and so on all night long and the staff not only supported me calling them during the night asking to be quite but they also moved me to another, more quiet room so I could enjoy my time there more. They also provide transporation to the airport (you can easily get there by metro but since I am a female who travels alone, having to depart at 5am, I chose to book a taxi) and they also partner with a tourist agency which offers various tours, including to the islands. they are a bit pricey, but along the other prices I have seen. Due to bad weather I didn't take any so I can't comment on the service. Close to the hotel there is a café where you can have breakfast and they can also bring breakfast to your room. There also are a few restaurants a few minutes from the hotel. I would surely suggest this hotel to anyone looking for a budget but safe, friendly and clean hotel right in the center of Athens.
