Hotel Fitzroy Curated by Fable

Grey Lynn|0.55km from TIP - VIC (1998) by artist John Radford in Western Park (Tuna Mau)
It is not recommended to stay. Although it is a five-star hotel, the design is very average. The hotel is really not big. I thought the internal facilities would be more sophisticated, but there are no sanitary facilities. They are like four-star hotels. The most disgusting thing is when I checked in, I met an Indian. When I arrived, no one was there. I went upstairs to look for it and saw someone chatting in the small room (he was in it). He didn't even ask a word. I thought they were all residents. It took half an hour for him to come down. I asked him if he was upstairs. He said yes. I said I didn’t see it when I went up. He lied and said he didn’t see it. I was very angry and said you just saw it. He changed his story and said he didn’t know I was a guest. I said I wanted to complain. He actually said he was the manager or the owner of this hotel. I'm speechless The next day I saw other employees and asked, and they confirmed that he was completely lying. When I picked up my luggage, they gave me a small gift with a small card inside, and asked me to complain to the manager. I wrote a complaint letter estimated to be a thousand words long. But they won't fire that sb-named Sam because he has NZ status and is considered local. They can only wait for him to resign on his own. simply outrageous The breakfast in the hotel is good. It is delivered to the room. If you want to take a picture of the breakfast, you can try it. But I didn’t experience the service at all.

Abstract Hotel & Residences

Auckland Central|1.07km from TIP - VIC (1998) by artist John Radford in Western Park (Tuna Mau)
TLDR: no aircon, constant power cuts, paper thin walls.. Where do I start. First off there’s no aircon so the rooms are hot and uncomfortable. There are ducted low speed fans which don’t do much. But the biggest problem is the fact the rooms are on what I believe to be motion sensors or some kind of timers so ALL power turns off every 25 seconds, this is not an exaggeration. This includes the lights, jug, the fan - everything. I stubbed my toes in the dark because the lights turned off while I was walking around, and they wouldn’t turn back on. Showering in the dark due the lights constantly on and off. Good luck making a coffee, showering, watching TV or anything without that being interrupted by constant power cuts which drive you mad. I booked the small room. They look small in the photos but even smaller in person and I felt like I was suffocating, the rooms are tiny so heat up like crazy. The smallest hotel room I’ve ever seen. Also the walls are paper thin so I could hear my neighbours conversations word for word.. even with ear plugs. If there was air con and sound proof walls, I could have put up with the extremely small space. Terrible experience. Don’t even bother with this place. The Abstract had a lot of potential as they have decorated it very nicely but they have let themselves down. It is also in a dangerous area of Auckland central so you will want to make sure you are back in your room by dark, lots of drunk homeless people around. After my first night of zero sleep due to the heat, stuffiness and neighbours chatting, I complained and had my room kindly upgraded to a larger one, but the same issues remained of constant power cuts and no air con in that room too. At least it was a bit cooler due to being larger and an extra window, also had no neighbours.. The customer service was pretty good. There is no parking on site so you have to park in a carpark building across the road. The food in the restaurant was average but has a beautiful outdoor dining area which was the highlight.

Well-maintained and beautiful hostel building; Check in 24H (just adjust the details, such as the door password and where the key will be with the team via email); Speaking of the team, cool and practical people; Nice, comfortable room with a good arrangement of bunk beds; Functional privacy capsule; Clean bathrooms; Honest bed linen; Very good kitchen/lounge, with space for snacks, refrigerator, quality furniture and cutlery; Don't forget to bring your global plug adapter;

It’s pretty much a backpacker’s hostel. Once that’s realized, expectations are adjusted accordingly. Let’s get the negatives out of the way: - must check out by 10 AM - there’s no air conditioning. There are fans, but at night, in summer, the rooms are uncomfortably warm. Everything else is positive. The location I felt was excellent. 20 minutes walk to the CBD; 30 minutes to the ferry terminal. You are right at Ponsonby, which is a main street for restaurants and coffee shops. There is an excellent supermarket one block away ( 5 minutes walk ). The lodge is very clean, and there’s a good community kitchen, where you can store your food as well as cook. I opted to pay + $20 per night extra for a private bath, but the hostel offers many bathrooms with showers. There are 2 washing machines and 1 dryer, each requiring NZD 6. The airport shuttle - Skydrive - operates from the Sky tower, a 20 minute walk. Here are the directions from the Sky Tower, which is on Hobson Street. Take Hobson for about 3 blocks, to Pitt Street. Go left on Pitt. Just one block on Pitt, on your right, you see a big, blue sign that reads “BECA”. After only one block on Pitt, with Beca Company on the right, that is Hopetoun Street. Go to the right. You will go up a bridge, with the expressway beneath you. As soon as you cross the bridge, you pass a girl’s grammar school, and Verandahs Lodge is clearly marked on the right, about the 4th building. The airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes, costs NZD 18 ( 12.50 for seniors ), and you pay driver, but only credit cards are accepted.

Stayed here for 5 nights as part of my pre-tour accommodation. This hotel has lived up to its reputation. It offers good value for money. With its central location with a stone’s throw to the hustle and bustle of CBD it is a no-frills refuge for those who can’t afford or don’t want to spend big on a bed. Amenities are good. Kitchen is spacious. Only drawbacks are small rooms and lack of paper towel and hand wash in the kitchen. Bowls and cutlery are limited but I guess with this kind of money you pay you shouldn’t get too fussed. You get what you pay for after all. Staff are friendly. I checked out with no adverse reactions.

We stayed here for four nights and it was really nice, if you just want a break from a party hostel then it’s the best. The staff are really friendly, the garden is lovely and it’s really clean. Overall I’d give it a 10 out of 10
