We were delightfully surprised by the experience at Hotel Normandie and ended up staying for a week. The room was very comfortable and spacious, weather in Auxerre was gorgeous in July so we had the windows open and fresh air day and night. The hotel is situated in proximity to everything we needed. The staff was gracious and helpful, even though we needed some help from google translate. There’s no fridge in the room but the staff was happy to store some items for us in the office kitchen. Room service was great, and there’s patio seating in front and a garden in back with seating as well.

Very friendly staff. We thought we had booked a car park but hadn't so make sure you do in advance. Beds and linen were very comfortable. Bathroom toiletries are all French and are devine. Curtains don't close fully so if you are sensitive to light wear an eye mask. A/C makes a noise like a home nespresso machine 2-3 times an hour so if you are sensitive to noise this may be a problem. Breakfast was available at 27€ but we didn't dine in. Auxerre is the most charming town, I'm not sure why it isn't a big tourist destination. We loved it

I arrived very warm after a long motorcycle journey. Pleasant reception and speedy booking in. My room was a bit dated, and after a small problem, the air conditioning was sorted out and whilst not being the best, it sufficed. I enjoyed a couple of beers, and a quick dip in the pool (in my experience quite rare in this price bracket of hotel). I ate in the restaurant as I didn’t want to travel far, ( I’m not sure what alternatives there were nearby). The food was reasonable in quality and price, and the same goes for breakfast. Overall, parts of the hotel were looking a bit tired, but the facilities were very good. There was free secure parking for motorcycles.
