We visited on 02/03/24 a table of 12. Service, Food and cleanliness all very good. No delays even with 12 to serve. All meals arrived correct as ordered and hot. Very impressed. Nice modern decor inside the bar and restaurant. Excellent place and food!

Ideal location for visits to local site seeing sites. The room was perfect for our needs, cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. We paid for breakfast, which was more than adequate. We ate in the restaurant two nights. The food on offer was good value for money. The bar was well stocked although it did close early some nights while we were there.

Stayed for the first time, and was very impressed with the room and food available in the bar every evening. Started the week with a lovely lasagne, enjoyed the pie evening with a lamb and mint option. Finished the week off with fish and chips. Great value and friendly staff.

Went for Saturday lunch which was a rather odd experience. The food was actually very good and enjoyable. Good portion sizes and tasty. Service was good and the people were really nice. The odd bit is that it appears to be set up more as a hotel breakfast room than a cosy restaurant, and has a really limited menu. That said there was enough on the menu for our party of four to have a choice, just probably not enough for most people. We were the only ones in there for a while and we saw one couple come in and exit, having apparently decided it was too quiet. Shame, because with a bit of decor change and menu enhancement it could be quite nice.

We stayed in one of the dog friendly outside rooms which are very spacious and comfortable. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Staff are so lovely. Food very good, with good breakfast offered x

We have been twice this month as part of a large group for birthdays and the food is spectacular. The pies are the best we have ever had and the home made chips are amazing. Staff including the Chef go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and the settling is lovely. Excellent service by all. Thank you

My wife and I had a lovely weekend. Clean rooms and locally sourced food and drink. particularly excellent bonfire night mulled cider. Our room opened up right into beautiful countryside and yet it was still an cinch to find, really the best of both worlds.

The room was warm, clean and tidy with a wonderfully large bed. The staff were courteois and helpful. The reason I am giving only three stars is that when I booked the room, by telephone, I was told that the restsurant would be serving until 8pm. Great news, as this was a stopover on a long journey. However, on arrival I was told that, being Sunday, the restaurant stopped serving at 4pm. As the location was out of town the only option, as we had a dog, was a takeaway from the nearby town which we ate in the room. Not ideal especially as we were looking forward to a relaxed evening. Just a blip on our journey, but an unnecessary one.

The lady on reception was great. After that it was all downhill. The room had dust deep enough to write in, the walls had marks which could easily have been cleaned off. The bathroom needs a service - bath tap loose, shower cubicle mouldy. We paid extra for the fancy bath in the room but there were no real windows only a velux in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. Having been advised that because it was’Pie Night’ we should book a table we did. We then heard the staff advising people that the restaurant was fully booked so we pleased we had booked. We got to our table at 6.45 and discovered that more than half of the tables were empty? Strange fully booked. We were shown to our table right next to the open kitchen serving area. If you want a ‘ping’ dinner this is the place. Obviously all pies were precooked, warmed in the microwave and maybe ‘crusted’ in the oven. As we are not pie eaters one of us chose the sausage (also pinged) and mash and the other one of us who I admit is particularly fussy had no options to choose from. Because of this I went for fries, seasonal veg and onion rings. We saw the chef drop some chips on the serving area and add them to my plate - not necessarily a bad thing but for all the time we sat there he did not clean down the area once. He did replace the chips when challenged. The onion rings had a really really thick batter that stank of fish and the seasonal veg: - I think roasted carrot and maybe swede but not sure and broccoli- the only edible item was the broccoli. The fries were ok. The pinged sausages were ok but the mashed potatoes were reminiscent of wallpaper paste. We were asked if everything was ok and to their credit the staff said they would not charge us for my meal. We thought we should mention things to the chef who advised us that we obviously had never been in any restaurants as nobody ever wipes down the service area during service. This is a stunning pub but unfortunately let down by staff and a feeling of slow decay of the building and a serious lack of attention to detail.
