Took a while to decide whether to book or not but overall glad we did. We have visited Nottingham several times as eldest was at Uni and now lives there. This weekend we were moving him so we’re just up for one night. Initially had difficulty with the booking as for some reason my bank card refused to work online or over phone. Spoke to Lorraine? a couple of times and she was helpful and friendly. On the day we were staying, we had dinner in town with son so weren’t due to arrive until 21:00. Had a call from one of the staff just to ensure that we were aware what time the kitchen was closing so we didn’t arrive hungry and unable to eat which was a really nice touch. When we arrived we were shown to our room, shown where breakfast was and how to access outside (if either were smokers). The room was immaculately clean, with bathroom the same. Really comfy bed and nice shower. The walls weren’t particularly soundproof and I could hear someone snoring, I think above, and when the couple in the room next door came to their room, it was obvious when they were completing their ablutions. Having said that, we both slept very well. We arrived at breakfast just after 08:30 (weekend breakfast is 08:30-09:30), all the tables were labelled with room numbers so no choice of seat. There were boxed cereals and jugs of orange juice, with some quite overripe bananas to help yourself to and the lady serving welcomed us, stating she would be over in a few moments. We helped ourselves to orange juice which was definitely not fresh and actually had a strange tang to it. I am unsure how many rooms there are but there were probably 16 people in the dining room when we arrived. She made her way round the tables systematically but in no rush, tea and coffee first then breakfast orders between delivering the breakfasts that were being made in the kitchen. We requested coffee which came in a teapot for us to share and full English breakfasts with brown toast. I’m not sure how many times our “coffee” had been through the filter but it certainly wasn’t fresh or even coffee to be honest. More like muddy water. I would say that there had been several jugs of water brewed through the same filter. I had noticed that when she was delivering toast to other tables, presented in a 4 slice rack, she was carrying it with her hands on the toast, after delivering to one table she definitely put her finger in her mouth on her way back to the kitchen. When ours arrived, carried in the same manner, I saw that her fingernails were filthy and this really put me off eating it. Breakfast was ok, I thought the bacon and the poached egg were nice. The sausage was underdone but a nice flavour and the fried quarter slice of bread was good too. It definitely wasn’t the amazing breakfast that finally sold me on the booking. All in all, a very cheap and comfortable stay, but the breakfast really needs to improve. I’d say unlikely to stay again, which is a real shame as 99% of the staf
