Extensive work being carried out meant noise throughout the hotel. Every time we needed reception we had to wait for staff to return. On the plus side, the restaurant staff were excellent.

Nice looking hotel and bar area. Good breakfast. Deck overlooking river. Short walk across the river there is a great restaurant. Crinkly waterproof mattress cover and low quality sheets. Was looking forward to using the nice bathtub and provided robes. Water was not much hotter than lukewarm. Front desk tried a different room...water came out brown. Tried yet another room...water still just warm. Jacuzzi dry.

Spacious room overlooking the Douro River. No air conditioning the night we stayed because they said it was cold and raining and only the heat is available. The receptionist at check in was not very friendly or accommodating. She acted like it was a lot of trouble for her to arrange a wine tasting tour for us. The restaurant was deafening loud during dinner because there were a couple of tour groups. I would not recommend shrimp risotto.

The carpet was musty and in Sun evening we saw 3 couples who were also guests turned away for dinner " bc no reservations" but it was not full or over booked. Front desk recommended a terrible boat ride to another town and we saw several nicer boats docked when we boarded ours.

Good dinner and breakfast. Nice pool. Swimming cap is mandatory. Big room.

Lovely property, nice people, perfect location. So, what's wrong? A bathroom with a picture window to the room, zero privacy, uncomfortable at best. And no way to mitigate. Fine for some people, but beware if you are not among them.

Very nice hotel by Douro tiver. Excelente staff. Good food. Nice view. Good and comfortable room with a nice view of Régua, through a nice varanda. Inside warmth and outside pools, and SPA. Restaurante staff quite professional and kind. Very good meals

Excellent hotel in an excellent location, large rooms and welcoming staff

There is nothing special or distinctive about this hotel which is part of larger corporate chain. This specific hotel lacks charm, with rooms furnished in corporate fashion. In our room carpets were stained and all lights did not work correctly. Staff was friendly but not overly helpful. Gym was adequately equipped. Parking on the street (road next to the hotel) was adequate.

The lovely Vila Gale Douro hotel was located by the river Douro. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Unusually the entrance floor is floor 4, with the numbering of all the lower floors going down.The salmon dinner we ate there was excellent

We enjoyed our time at this hotel but advise that its best suited to travellers who have a car. Its not very close to anything else so requires a walk or drive into the next town of Regua, on the opposite river bank and over a bridge. If you're having the hotel breakfast or dinner its less of a problem. Rooms have good views of the river, Regua and vineyards. They aren't amazing, or large but are modern, clean and have the amenities most travellers require. The hotel has a relaxed vibe and staff are friendly and helpful. There's a terrace with lounges on the level where the outdoor spa, indoor pool and sauna are located. (swimming caps for the pool are mandatory and can be purchased) , which all makes for a pleasant afternoon relaxing after wine tasting or cruising the Douro river. Staff happily deliver drinks to the spa and terrace. We ate dinner once at the restaurant and enjoyed it very much. On our second night we even returned to have the chocolate desert again! Breakfast was good too. The restaurant has a spacious terrace with river views which makes it a pleasure to sit outdoors there. The parking garage, however, is a challenge, and most guests park on the street. Overall, we had a great time here.

Avoid their restaurant at all costs. You have 3 menu options and they're always the same every day... and they're all pretty terrible. I complained. Demanded a refund. Months later, after speaking to their staff multiple times, I gave up. They're completely useless. I still don't have an explanation nor a refund. I wasn't expecting this level of service from Vila Gale...

This newer hotel by itself is okay, but its location is isolated from any commercial areas having restos, shops. I have to walk across a wooden pedestrian bridge 10 min away to a small city, Regua, to find my morning coffee. I also bought a cone of sweet, red cherries. We had room 401 at 155E + 46E for half board. The half board dinner was not satisfactory because of a large tour group in the dining room simultaneously. Service was so, so slow -- finished at 10:45. We had a choice of mains. We chose the pork fillets -- okay. The next dinner we decided to eat outside of the hotel. Vasco, the hotel's manager, granted my request to cancel the half board for the second night. A similar situation occurred at breakfast where it was too crowded the first day and uncrowded on the second day. What a difference in service and enjoyment. We had a view of Douro's tributary and the city of Regua across the water. Walking on the street can be dangerous since there is no shoulder, and cars are parked to the very edge of the lane.
