Tried to stay another 4 nights for the same price as my first 4 nights was almost double the amount. Had to book a different location to be with in my budget. Great place to stay was very relaxing.

I stayed at the Red Lion for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) in June. First, the pluses .... the pub is in an excellent position, a few mins walk from the town centre and the free car park is literally 2 mins walk away ... but very limited spaces so its a bit pot luck. I was greeted by a lovely young lady who showed me to my room ... I had room 1 which was really nice, large with a very nice bathroom and a small fridge which is always a bonus especially as it was very warm while I was there. I only had breakfast on one morning but it was lovely, cooked to order (same young lady, she is a gem) and very tasty. I have no complaints about my room or the service at all .... but .... the pub is obviously very popular and as they have a licence until 1am it was very loud ... although I did enjoy the music 😄. I was made aware of this when I booked so I cant really complain and it was worse because of the heat as I had to keep the windows open. Unfortunately this did impact my sleep but once the pub closed it was fine and the bed was super comfy. I would def stay again though and if you are planning on being out in the evenings it wont bother you that the pub is open until late. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would def stay again but maybe next time it will be when its a bit cooler and I can keep the window closed 😄

They have obviously spent money on a refurb upstairs, but a shame that some minor details weren’t followed through. The bed was comfy, but none of the bed linen matched (not a huge issue, just strange), which gave the impression of a slap dash changeover. There wasn’t a mattress protector or undersheet, just a bedsheet, and the pattern of the mattress could even be seen through the sheet. The bathroom was nice, and had a good shower, but the toilet definitely hadn’t been cleaned since the last occupants, neither had the hoover been wizzed round. I asked when breakfast was served, and was asked when I’d like it. I asked for it at 7:30am but was told it would be closer to 8am, which was fine. However when I went downstairs just after 8, I was told it would be at least another 15 minutes before a cooked breakfast would be served. As I was in the area to work I had to leave or I would have been late, and grabbed a bite somewhere on the way. I could have been offered toast and coffee or something instead of a cooked breakfast, but this wasn’t offered. Another person staying there also left with no breakfast at the same time as I did. All in all, it was a great location, but for me this was the only positive thing about my stay. Many reviews on the place are positive ones, but I’m afraid my experience was anything but… maybe it was just a bit of a blip…

If you want any sleep, this is not the place for you. Remember when booking it is a pub and there is continuous noise from the bar area until at least 1.30am Friday and Saturday. Breakfast was delicious but disorganised...one member of staff trying to do everything ...staff were really nice. Its a case of you get what you pay for...we would not return
