Every part of our two stays at Hotel zen was excellent! Clean comfy beds, super helpful and kind staff, and the view from our sea-view room was incredible. The restaurant was an unexpected pleasure, from the background music to the world class cuisine. Love love love the infinity pool and sauna right on the oceans edge. Huge thumbs up!

PROS: This is the best beach and ocean location and the main reason we chose this resort. Employees work hard - some are very friendly and helpful, others keep more to themselves but are happy to help if asked. The ocean water is divine - crystal clear and abundant with life and an ecosystem that you can explore for hours! The hotel grounds are well kept, the pools are lovely, there is fresh cold drinking water available at many sites on the resort. The lobby is comfortable. CONS: Food - there is so much waste because of taste and quality especially in the only a la carte restaurant. They try too hard to impress with appearance, while the flavor and quality is awful. We tried so hard to like it. They Serve a spaghetti with a liquid tomato juice they call a sauce, and serve it to hotel guests! Stick to what you know - Mexican food made well, made with local ingredients using traditional recipes! Why try to serve a pasta carbonara when they clearly don't have a clue what that even is - and every dish that uses cream - and there are many, has this artificial sickening flavor about it, what a shame! If they could just tweak and understand that guests deserve to eat decent food, everything else would be great. ROOMS: dated but clean. They have many rooms with very old and dirty fold-up couches. Replace the couches that belong in the garbage, not in guest's rooms, it isn't a big deal, but will show respect to your guests. AIR CONDITIONING: very controlled and never gets cold. Hotel can lower the temperature by at least two degrees and provide much comfort. BUFFET: Repetitive and low-quality food. If you make it repetitive, at least stick with quality and local specialties so that the guests can enjoy some authentic Mexicans cuisine. BIRDS: This is a problem. Allowing vultures to enter your buffet restaurants to eat and defecate where they want is not acceptable! At night, so many mosquitos - we could not eat there. Find a way to enclose the buffet resto. add air conditioning, eliminate the BIRDS and MOSQUITOS and your guests will be in heaven. END note: this hotel capitalizes on their location which is ideal, but they could so easily tweak a few details and improve guest experience by 100%.

PROs: Across the street from the ocean and a great shore diving spot. Beautifully landscaped grounds, nice pool, beach club, and open-air restaurant with swim-up bar. Traditional Mexican hotel layout with open courtyards and lanais that have nice views of garden and/or ocean. Peaceful vibe. CONs: Most of the restaurants in the area are overpriced Senor Frog/Hooters-type establishments catering to the drink-and-dive crowd. Restaurants in the north of town and just off Centro are much better quality and value, but require a cab into town. Buffet breakfast was carb-heavy steam table fare which was overpriced at more than $15/person. Restaurants in the US would offer this for free. Front desk staff was not particularly friendly or helpful. When my husband lost his bag in the lobby and they did not find it in lost and found, they did not check for it behind the desk until we asked a second time and they magically ”found” it. A little effort and thought here would have made a difference to us. The beach club is nice but the swimming was much too rough for me (located between two piers and the road, with mostly a view of the cruise ships in front). As a Marriott Bonvoy member, and after reading the reviews of B Unique vs. The Westin, we opted to stay with Hotel B Unique - and I’d most definitely make the same decision 1000 times over. Everything from beginning to end has been wonderful! I booked online 30+ days in advance and the price was a significant discount. I reached out twice before our trip to the reservations staff and they were always so helpful and prompt to respond, especially Diamela. We arrived to Cozumel after 3 days in Playa Del Carmen. The HBU lobby is bright, breezy, and we were welcomed with a complimentary green juice, made from scratch right before us! We requested early check-in and our request was honored. The website room pics don’t do the Ocean View Grand King room justice - the space is open with many natural elements. The view overlooks the water and infinity pool. The bathroom is modern with a large rainfall shower. What I really appreciate about the B Unique property are the “small touches”. Great bathroom soaps abs products, purifies water in the pitcher in the room, robes/slippers, and nightly turn-down service with the most delicious handmade chocolate. The entire property is adults-only, and the ambiance is all about relaxation and romance… exactly what we were wanting. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended and extra night in Cozumel rather than going to Cancun for the airport proximity. Although our existing room type wasn’t available when I booed the additional night, Marcela worked magic and we were able to stay in our existing room. Hotel B Unique is most definitely our preferred property in Cozumel! Thank you, HBU!
