The Old House Hotel

My partner and I had a lovely night stay at The Old House Hotel. The team went above and beyond to accommodate us. We had a Couples Massage in the Spa, one of the best massages I have ever had! We then had a cheeseboard and nibbles from the bar menu. Paul’s service was excellent, made us feel very welcome. The room was perfect. Biggest TV I have ever seen!! Made for a great cinematic experience.

We came here for a birthday lunch and the experience was pretty poor. The food took so long we had to move our cars as we'd gone past the three hour limit in the square - we were in there for four hours in the end! And it really wasn't busy in the restaurant at all. What arrived wasn't worth waiting for. I ordered the skate wing with new potatoes, what arrived was HALF a skate wing and ONE new potato that had been sliced up (no I am not exaggerating!) and a few lentils. That was it. I would have taken a photo but I was so ravenous by the time I got it I didn't think about it. I checked the menu for additional sides, there were no spring greens, broccoli or anything like that to bulk it out a bit. So not only was I expecting there to be more on my plate, I couldn't even have paid to have a bit more. The salt in the wound was when we were told the plates were handmade in Spain and cost £400 each. I am honestly astounded that they consider themselves so upmarket only to scrimp on their meals to give us one potato and half a fish with no veg and spend the money on plates instead? Also, there were a few non-drinkers / drivers at the table. I asked if there were any mocktails, I was offered a J20.... Needless to say we won't be returning, sorry.

I took my family to the restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I left feeling disappointed in the presentation and quality of the food from what was a limited menu. The food arrived at the table for some of the party, staggered, which meant that some parts of the meal were cold. The wine list was presented on an iPad with quote “over three and a half thousand bottles” my first two choices were not available. We were the only guests perhaps not surprisingly. Overpriced and not able to live up to the reputation they were trying to achieve.

Initially a really lovely experience which was extremely let down by ginding a lump of plastic in my main course. The Manager was apologetic and replaced the meal. I felt that 2 glasses of complimentary wine was not satisfactory. Not had response to feedback form that was left.

Just returned from having the most amazing massage. Very professional service. Actually had massage for allocated period of time, if not more. Left feeling very relaxed, would recommend and will most definitely return.

Excellent food, excellent location and excellent service: definitely one of the best food experiences for quite some time. This is an exclusive but inclusive experience. All food is organic and locally sourced.

It seems this hotel have changed hands alot, and not up and running as they planned. very expensive for 1 night in a room described as a suite, lots of unfinished features, no hairdryer or tea and coffee making facilities.lots of faults and shabby bits, and not entirely happy to have a view from next room. a button to press to call someone, but nobody came. some staff very friendly, some indifferent and not relaxing environment. I sent an email to the manager about our experience, received a curt, brief response. Rude...

We had the most wonderful lunch at the Old House Restaurant (Quob) at Wickham. We received a very warm welcome, the service was impeccable, very tasteful decor and it was one of the most memorable meals I have ever had. I have various food allergies and the chef was able to accommodate my needs, even though it wasn't easy.

My wife and I had lunch here on Monday. We’d never been here before but were immediately impressed by the friendly welcome and the interior decor, modern but maintaining features of a 1700s building. The food in the restaurant was of the highest quality and Josie the waitress gave impeccable service. We opted for the 3 course set menu. This was our first visit but definitely not our last. Would definitely recommend this place.
