My adult son and daughter accompanied me on a cross-country skiing expedition that included 4 nights at the Lodge. Our rooms and the Lodge itself reflected very well the ambience of northern New England - nothing fancy but enough separation between the 2nd-floor rooms and the 1st floor common areas and dining hall/bar to allow us to choose when we wanted to mix with other guests and when we wanted to be alone in our rooms. The free breakfasts and the dinners had a home-cooking appeal with enough variation to easily fill a range of appetites. I recommend choosing the Lodge both as a place to eat as to sleep.

Great to stay at a classic inn with a very nice restaurant in a beautiful part of Vermont. There were cross-country ski trails right at the Inn and the Craftsbury Nordic Center was only 15 minutes away. Excellent for a get away weekend. We visited in the winter, but it's also a great summer spot right on Caspian Lake.

If you are looking for a place with a beautiful setting, cozy, friendly-this is the place. We stayed in a cabin that was colorful and clean and all one would need. We had dinner in the main lodge which was delicious-used local foods. The staff all around was superb. The sking terrific--the weather--cold We are looking forward to our next visit

This lodge has all the elements of a classic farmhouse - several bookcase-lined sitting spaces, wallpapered bedrooms, a front porch with rocking chairs and outdoor dining, cabins, hiking trails, gardens and a spectacular view of treetops and Caspian lake. I love this place. People who either stay or come for meal are varied & interesting. The staff is personable, friendly and mellow. The rooms are comfortable and certainly not corporate or boho trendy. The food & drinks are really good and the ishkabibble is delicious!

We made a one night getaway to Highland Lodge to visit Hill Farmstead Brewing and enjoy St Patrick's Day at the Lodge. Everything was great ! Communication before the trip was efficient and kept us informed. We were greeting and welcomed by Elsa upon arrival and given the overview of things. A bit of time at the bar socializing ( thanks Morgan ! ) and then a great Irish themed dinner ! In the morning we were greeted in the dining room by Chad who gave us a long list of breakfast options. After several cups of coffee, we all enjoyed a delicious VT breakfast. Definitely a great spot to visit. We intend to return for a longer stay in warm weather. So warm and relaxing !

We've stayed at Highland Lodge a few times and always enjoyed our time. The breakfast in the sun-filled room is always a special treat, particularly in the winter. We really enjoyed the dinner options as well, esp. the venison. Rooms are clean, cozy warm, and charming and the common areas are always inviting to sit down with a book by the fireplace. Being able to access cross-country trails right off the property is an added bonus, as is the ski hut to wax your skis.

This is a lovely getaway! Our room was extremely comfortable. The included breakfast is way above average in quality. I would have liked more vegetarian options for dinner. The locations is beautiful.

We've been a few times and have usually stayed in the Wolf or Wallace cabins, which are newly renovated and have nice kitchenettes for snacking and food storage for the kids and hungry parents. The lodge itself is a treat with table games and puzzles and books and a just-enough out of tune old grand piano with sheet music for all levels. All cabins and lodge are trailside and access some of the most stunning nordic skiing I have every done. The Great Loop is a must-ski that passes through a number of ungodly beautiful places including old sugarbush, working farms, and windy hardwood forests with very long views. Either skate or classic is excellent and the lodge proprietors are amazing, welcoming, and do a great job of keeping a quirky old ski lodge running with tasty food and lots of warm cozy places to sneak away for a sit and sip and read. Other highlights include some of the best vintage Patagonia fleece viewing in all of North America or daresay it the world? Bring your pilliest and enjoy the jealous ogling of other crispy fleece lovers like you.
