Our stay at 28 Gates included 2 of our married sons and their wives, plus our granddaughter. The house has 3 Queen/King bedrooms upstairs, which was ideal, plus a modern bathroom in between with shower and free-standing bath. There was a very large extra bathroom downstairs with shower and toilet which took the pressure off at peak times. Also included in this room was a very large washing machine and dryer, great for the traveller on the go. All fresh linen is provided. When we arrived at the guesthouse Susie had left some milk, bacon, juice, tea, coffee pods, fresh eggs, fresh cherries, mushrooms, butter and a fresh homemade loaf of bread and a tin of chocolate chip cookies. This kind gesture delivers such a welcome when you first arrive. The kitchen is well appointed for you to cook up a storm, the fridge and freezer being a good size for you to bring your own supplies. A large country table will easily accomodate 8 people comfortably or you can choose to eat alfresco on the table under the front verandah. Susie and Michael are very friendly and you only have to ask if you need something. Susie gave us the opportunity to meet some of her farmyard pets including Bert the pig and Polly the horse as well as some very friendly sheep. Michael happily gave one of my sons an impromptu lesson on the finer points of fly-fishing when the boys were down at one of the lakes trying their hand at some trout fishing. Most days if we weren’t down at the lake we were free to meander around the fully operational sheep property and also check outa couple of mini museums that contained some reminders of days past. If the weather is a bit inclement there are an array of games and books plus a good sized tv that will keep everyone entertained. All in all our holiday was outstanding and what made it even more special was that we shared the experience with our extended family.

Susie and Michael are fantastic hosts, gracious and generous with their time, showing us around the huge property and making us feel very welcome. We stayed for 4 nights and still didn't scratch the surface of things to do and enjoy. The cottage itself is beautiful with modern luxurious touches, and the kitchen was stocked with everything we'd need. It is not a typical rough-and-ready fishing lodge by any stretch of the imagination! More like a really posh cottage that happens to be in the middle of a vast sheep station. The fishing was accessible (5 minutes drive), absolutely private, and enjoyable - fish were not super spooky but appropriately challenging for occasional fishers like us. One of us learned to cast a fly on Friday, and landed a very nice rainbow on Saturday. So no complaints there! Special credit to Nick, who guided us and was exceptionally patient with our faffing around. We'd love to come back again.

Covid delayed our 2020 stay by 5 months and it turned out to be a cracker stay with a tiger trout and brown trout caught and released. Our return was in 2022 and it felt like a family visit rather than a weekend getaway. Susie and Michael are the best hosts, take the time to have them over for a glass of wine! Don't go past the home cooked lamb roast dinner from Susie and the honesty gin bar is a terrific addition. The accommodation is superb, the work on the old forgery is beautiful and the working dog pack, sheep and horse you can hand feed (plus Burt the pig dog) are adorable! If you need a good dose of refreshment, fresh air and some chill out time taking in the calming scenery, get yourself booked for at least 2 nights, 3 at a minimum.Take a tour of the shearing sheds and take a short drive down to Lawrenny Distillery for a fantastic guided tasting or learn how to fly fish with a local guide. See you next year Susie and clan!

We so enjoyed our two nights at 28 Gates. A warm welcome from Susie, Ronnie and the farm animals. Beautiful accommodation with everything we could possibly need plus the most delicious cake and home-cooked bread. We played cards and went for gorgeous walks. One if the highlights - a tour of the farm with Ronnie in the 4WD. So very interesting as well as beautiful. Highly recommended!

From the moment I arrived to a warm fire, home made banana bread, chocolate and bottle of wine, I felt very welcomed by Suzie and Michael. They couldn't be more obliging, yet not intrusive. The accommodation is luxurious, with everything you could need, a warm log heater, with panel heaters in all rooms, modern appliances throughout. I found myself thinking "I wonder is there is a..." and there it would be! I got to sample Suzie's wonderful cooking as well. Although it was late in the season and getting cool, I caught some beautiful large brown trout from their obviously healthy lakes. Bert the pig who thinks he is a dog was real hoot! I would really like to go back for a longer stay sometime.

An amazing stay at 28 gates. Unfortunately due to attending a wedding we were very busy and didn’t get to experience all 28 gates has to offer but the stay itself was warm and comfortable. Heaters in every bedroom. Black out blinds - and a perfect stay for families with kids. The beds were very comfy and the house was very clean and tidy. The bath is to die for. Very relaxing and really loved our stay at 28 gates. Thanks again for having us.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (11 & 9) were lucky enough to stay at 28 Gates over the Christmas period. The property is beautifully renovated whilst keeping its rich history. We enjoyed fishing, feeding the animals, walking around the tranquil surrounds of the farm. Susie was the most gracious host who made us feel so welcome with her tours. Her passion for the farm and her family shone through. Her personal touches made the stay incredibly memorable and one of the highlights of our visit to Tasmania. An absolute slice of heaven here on Earth!

We stayed at 28 Gates and had a wonderful few days. The Parsons family are very welcoming and we enjoyed delicious meals every evening. Got to feed the animals and spend time down at the lake. I'd totally recommend it to anyone who loves farm life.
