Homewood Suites by Hilton Halifax-Downtown

South End Halifax|0.73km from Museum of Natural History
Hi Jamie I felt it best to write to you directly as to our recent disappointing stay at the Halifax Homewood Suites. We have been coming to Halifax and staying at your hotel for many years and always found it to be among one of the best which is particularly one of the reasons for our disappointing stay. Admittedly Covid has made our routine Halifax visits for work and social events non existent in the past two years. Recently we had a booking at your hotel and were called the day of our stay that our room was not available due to a mechanical issue. This happens and we understood. In fact we were quite happy with the alternate location that you provided us at your sister property. So we made a second reservation for this past Saturday night staying until the following day. We arrived for check in at 3:15 and were told our room was not available as cleaning staff had not been able to get to our room yet. We were unable to get an estimate as to when it would be completed. We were accompanying friends who also had booking issues but were able to get their room after some confusion. We decided to go with them until our room was ready so I asked the front desk to call us there when it was ready. I was told they were cleaning our room, which was 503 shortly and we would be called. Approximately 1 hour later we were called that our room was now ready. This was inconvenient but understandable. We collected the keys in a sleeve and again were told room 503 was ready. Proceeding to that room we found the door open and cleaning staff still inside. I questioned this and was told they were doing VIP clean inspection. She asked us to come in and departed. We unpacked our belongings, used the facilities and my wife began to touch up her hair and makeup for our 530 reservation. I took the opportunity to unload the dishwasher and then went down the hallway to get ice. When I returned my key didn't work so I knocked to get in. We had two keys so I picked up the second one to try it. At that point I realized she had written room 403 on the sleeve. I phoned down to the front desk to clarify the error and no one answered. We realized we had been sent to the wrong room so we packed up our belongings and went down to 403. The keys worked so we appreciated the error. I again called attempted calling the front desk but the phone did not work. The safe also did not work. The internet did not work. We went back to our friends room as we were now late for our reservation. I called the front desk from their room and notified them of the events and failings. She told me she could give me keys to room 503 but I explained we had moved down to to 403 as per the writing on the sleeve. Our friends called and cancelled our reservations as we were now late. Upon returning that evening I again called the front desk in regards to the phone, internet and safe issues. They told me they made a note without solution. We have had such great experiences with your hotel in the pa

I have to make multiple trips a year to Halifax with my youngest for hospital visits & we stay at the Chocolate Lake BW every single time as not only do they have an arcade, a pool & a gym to keep kids (& adults lol) occupied without having to go anywhere, they also have exceptionally friendly & helpful staff who are courteous & kind & always greet you with a smile, and they have THE BEST restaurant with the BEST food!! We've never left feeling hungry!!

The location is on the edge of the port, and there is a COWS ice cream shop 10 meters from the east gate. The clerk is professional. Breakfast is not included, it is a la carte system, but the price is actually acceptable between 17-24 Canadian dollars. The facilities include a swimming pool and a gym. The gym is very large. In the swimming pool, the old white man and the old lady are doing extravagant things, which is also drunk. The last hour of the swimming pool is adult only time, but there are still children in it after the time has passed. The security staff helped clean up in time. very good.

I was very satisfied with the double bed for the first time, but this time the single bed was shocked. The toilet is half as big as last time. The soundproofing is also poor, and it doesn't feel like the same hotel as before. Maybe the top floor hasn't been renovated yet. This time the room doesn't deserve 800 RMB at all

They had us over a barrel. Apparently the whole place was booked. Crazy expensive for a place that was less good than a standard Holiday Inn or Ramada. The room had a ton of light leaking in from the hallway door. But our problem was the old pillow-top mattress. My back's not great, and it was sagging in the middle. Painfully soft. They didn't have a spare mattress. Not one. So if a person spilled water, a child had an accident, whatever, there is NO SPARE MATTRESS? Wifey asked if the (old) couch was also a sofa-bed. The staff wasn't quite sure(!!!). It was. We asked for more sheets and another comforter. They delivered more sheets. The old sofa was, well, old. The spring mattress in it has lumps, but it was better (firmer) than the bed. The location is prime, but they have competition. Next time we are in Halifax (it's a place we go), we won't stay at the Barrington. Kudos to the nice people in the restaurant. Good value for the food, friendly staff. Front desk... No good.

From the first moment on arriving, we were disappointed. There is space for 2 cars to park for check in in front of the hotel. Then $25 a night for parking across the street in an unsecured lot. Who pays $300 a night to drag their luggage across a street? The website clearly states a restaurant, otherwise I would never have booked here.. . it is my main criteria for booking, When I asked I was told it closed a year ago, then why is it still on the website? My irritation was ignored by the desk. The room was so cold, we cranked the heat up to 31C and the fan continued to blow cold air. When I called I was told to turn it off and they would bring up portable heaters. No, come and fix it. The technician came promptly and basically said the system was not working but he could turn off the cold air but could not fix the heat valve as ”his boss hadn't shown him how”. He would bring a portable heater. BTW I heard other guests complaining at breakfast about the cold. I would have cancelled my next night booking but that meant not having a room between noon and 4 PM, not exactly the point of staying two nights. The one, and only one, redeeming factor was the breakfast complimentary for us as gold Hilton Honors, otherwise $14 and $18. Our server was also very pleasant. Check out - the clerk was so unfriendly and dour, not even asking if we enjoyed our stay. This trip has undermined my faith in Hilton, as we have not had a good stay this year, and we have spend 10 nights in Hiltons.
