Barceló Illetas Albatros - Adults Only
4.2/565 Reviews
We stayed in Barcelo in Dominican Republic and we are really happy with the brand in general since then. We chose the Barcelo Illetas Albatros due to this experience and they didn't disappoint. Due to the low season, there were some small hiccups with the service we received but it was a comfortable stay after all. Here is a detailed evaluation of specifics: Welcome: We arrived around 8 p.m. and we were welcomed at the reception. The reception staff usually stays at the back and come out if you are waiting for service but overall they are quick and welcoming. There was no mention of My Barcelo benefits which made us think that the hotel is not paying attention to it at all. (e.g., there was no free water in the room). The room: The bed is really really comfortable. I would want that bed in my apartment. The room is also very clean with nice high quality towels. The mini bar is filled up but there was no mention of the pricing apart from the QR code. I thought the sweets were free and ate before I realised the pricing. Also the curtains in the room were a bit dirty and needs to be changed a bit more often. There were some issues regarding the room though. There was a garlic/toilet mixed smell coming from the bathroom after our 2nd night. The ventilation in the room wasn't great and the A/C was only heating and not cooling (due to winter season I guess). So we requested a room change. The hotel interiors: Really clean everywhere you go. It offers everything you would need on a city break or even a summer holiday (however we were there in winter season and couldn't use the outdoor pool or private beach). The private beach area could use some care since it is quite dangerous to walk around there with slippery rocks and stuff. Restaurant: The food is good and fresh. They have omelettes freshly made for you in the mornings and grills in the evenings. The salad buffet is a bit limited and the food gets redundant after 4 days+nights eating there but overall happy with the friendly service and healthy good quality food. Location: We rented a car to see around the island so the location wasn't a concern. But there isn't much to do if you don't have a car and it is winter season. The bus service to palma is quite frequent though. The parking is not free at the hotel but the nearby free car park just worked great if you don't mind climbing up the stairs from there to the hotel. Overall: Had a good stay. There are some minor hick-ups but we felt safe & clean
Europe Playa Marina - Adults Only

Calme and cozy areas to relax on a sun bed only a few meters from the sea. Clean hotel and great rooms with a splendid sea view. Very good breakfast buffet. We never tried dinner or the bar at the hotel, but this would probably have been a good experience. Extremely poor internet connection almost everywhere at the hotel. We could not access to bar, pool area or sea as the doors were locked after 8 o’clock. Hence, we had no cozy place to chill out besides in our room. Toilet door semi open. We could ger a late check out… but they wanted to charge us 50€ - quite surprising as this is normally free of charge at other hotels
Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa

This was the third time that we had holidayed at the Bon Sol and I am delighted to say that it lived up to our expectations. Like anyone with a ”favourite hotel” we were anxious about how they would get through the woes of 2020 and the pandemic. But it was pleasing that on our first visit since then everything was as good as we had remembered and expected. And it was also pleasing to be there in the week that the Xamena family owners were celebrating the 70th anniversary of the hotel. And on the night of our own wedding anniversary whilst there they gave us a very special evening dinner to remember. Thanks to all the staff at the Bon Sol for providing excellent service and accommodation.

An honest review… We stayed at the Bonanza Park hotel returning home today. The hotel itself is lovely with beautiful gardens. The breakfasts are amazing & the staff are wonderful. However, for us the area of Illetas is far too quiet and boring (we are a married couple in our 50s). There are a couple of restaurants and that’s it. The only saving grace was the evening entertainment in the hotel opposite, Bonanza Playa but even that was only from 9pm - 10.30pm. Apart from this, there is honestly nothing. Luckily there’s the no.4 bus which is right outside the hotel that takes you into Palma (get off at Joan Carles) for 2 euros per person. It comes about every 10 minutes and is approximately a 20 mins journey. The same bus also goes to Porto Pi which is a large shopping centre and this is approx 8 stops before Palma (Joan Carles). The bus runs all day until around midnight. We also visited Cala Major but didn’t stay long as we found it really run down and rough. There are ‘beaches’ in Illetas but they are more accurately tiny coves that get absolutely rammed. Not a pleasant experience. Although they are beautiful and the water is turquoise blue.

The service is very friendly, the hotel is rich in facilities, the rooms are spacious and tidy, the breakfast is rich and varied, the surrounding environment is comfortable and comfortable, the sea is beautiful along the rocky side of the hotel, you can enjoy the sun bath on the rocks, or go to the hotel for another twenty or so. To a beautiful beach with blue sky, white sand and green water, there are Spanish and Chinese food nearby.
