This is our favorite place to stay in Cape Breton The grounds and the surrounding area are spectacular. The Inn has historic charm. We stayed in the Inn and recommend it. Driving up to the nearby salmon hatchery and the headwaters of the Margaree River at Big Intervale/Portree is a must. Chimney Corner Beach and Egypt falls are not far away either

this may have been a lovely place at one time but it now needs a LOT of work! Wall paper is hanging off the walls, holes in screens are repaired with scotch tape, plumbing is old, tubs have been painted and are peeling. We had no pillowcase on some of our pillows. Carpets on sta8rs appear to not have been cleaned in a lo g time. Excavation pit around the building has not been completed and filled in. Sheets were 'ballie' and stained, wifi does not work in bedrooms. Earwigs in my toothbrush and spiders in the towels. Do not understand positive reviews from some guests. Photos on the website do not present Normaway Inn as we expereinced it. On a positive note staff in Inn and restaurant were wonderful.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Normaway Inn while touring Cape Breton Island, and our only regret was not being able to stay at the Inn longer. We had booked a ground-floor room in the Inn proper. Like the rest of the Inn, our room had 'character' in the best sense of the word - all the facilities we needed, but with a rustic charm throughout. We were warmly greeted by the staff at check-in and this friendliness extended through our stay. You truly felt you were a welcome guest, and they always seemed to be willing to banter about the area and its history. The on-site restaurant was first-rate, and a great convenience. Situated in lovely surroundings just off the Cabot Trail highway, we both enjoyed the chance to take walks on and around the property. The staff make the Normaway Inn, but the aforementioned surroundings, and the modernized but rustic rooms added to our enjoyment. The Inn more than lived up to our expectations. Clare and I would happily return.

The music, in such a cosy and intimate setting, was outstanding. The musician, Neal McDaniel, was very talented. All this was at no extra cost, although most guests left a gratuity.

We actually returned our key shortly after walking through the building to our room. We couldn't stay there. The foul odor made me gag. It smelled worse than a row of portable toilets. It was horrendous. We had booked and paid online so we were very disappointed that we were out the money, and were forced to frantically search for another place to stay, at added expense. DON'T STAY THERE

We couldn't stay once we walked through the building to our room. It smelled absolutely awful. Worse than a barn or porta potty. I actually gagged. We left for a bit, totally distraught because we had nowhere else to go and had already been charged for the room. But we decided to go back and returned our key and left. There was no possible way we could have stomached a night there. Thankfully we had a friend in the area that found us a room with a family member. DO NOT STAY THERE. Grossest place ever

This is an older property, but we’ll taken care of. The staff and owners were fantastic, and the entertainment they provide was authentic in a very intimate setting. Definitely recommend this.

This Inn/Cabin/Hotel is a great spot to stay if you're touring the Cape Breton Island. We were visiting the western area of the island (CB Highlands National Park nearest to Cheticamp) so this was a good and affordable place to stay while we were in this area. What we absolutely found amazing was the impeccable customer service of the staff. When we arrived, we were offered to stay in one of the cabin if we wanted to but chose instead to stay in a very quaint and comfortable room in the main lodge. Unfortunately, we soon found out that there was no hot water and it was already past midnight and the staff was away. Made one phone call and the owner was quick to come over, talk with us and fix the problem. There was a lot a hot water after his visit. Very interesting older gentleman to talk to. The room was extremely comfortable and we truly enjoyed our night. We will definitely be back to this place.

The place was clean, still kept it’s rustic look. Taking a seat outside at night and watching the sparkling stars was great. Waking up to Animals such as horses and Cows, was a beautiful experience. Coffee and bread were fresh and waiting in the front desk. Highly recommend.
