AHG Atlas Hotel Taksim

Taksim Istanbul|0.83km from Church of St. Anthony of Padua
I have booked at Pera orient hotel because it offers what I want from an hotel during my travels and the feedbacks were in its favor. Just after my booking was done I stumble on a negative review that was posted on trip advisor. I was worried about my choice. But when I went to Istanbul and stayed there, I felt compelled to share my own experience, which was entirely different and absolutely fantastic! I believe it's essential to give credit where credit is due. First of all , if you are seeking a resort , Pera Orient is not a resort and it never claims to be one! My stay at Pera Orient was comfortable and pleasant. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the friendly and attentive staff, who made their best to help me in every possible way and to answer my queries during my 5-day long stay. Their warm smiles and genuine willingness to assist truly set the tone for my stay. The location of the hotel is ideal. A 6 min walk from the hotel takes you to Taksim square where you can take the Metro or bus to reach your desired destination. And it allowed me to make regular daily walks on istikal street . The street is a little narrow yes, but there are plenty of hotels all around that I have never felt scared or unsafe ( as it was mentioned in the negative review). And I always took the upward direction then turn right towards taksim. I was greeted by a spotless clean room with a tasteful decor. The bed was incredibly comfortable, The housekeeping staff was attentive and meticulous, making sure that my room was impeccably cleaned each day. Coffee and tea were left daily next to the kettle (sometimes with a bottle of water). When I will visit Istanbul again , I will definitely chose Pera Orient to stay in.

Looks like people can't give balanced ratings nowadays, and instead hang onto *one* problem, and rate a property one star. That's just not fair. Despite some of the poor ratings, my experience at Maroon Tomtom was quite excellent. The hotel is centrally located on the busy Istikal pedestrian/street, so there's some noise, but with a pair of earplugs I didn't hear anything (and I'm very sensitive to noise). There were also some slammed doors from other guests, so yes, maybe soundproofing could be better. But this isn't an apartment to live in and meditate or write poetry. It's a hotel in one of the most popular areas in Istanbul. Anyway, the staff was super friendly and fixed an issue with the door lock that I had on check in, right away. Another staff member helped me figure out where to get a taxi from, where to buy an umbrella etc. The room was compact but functional. There was even space to lay down a yoga mat in front of the bed if you wanted to. Lots of spot lights etc. The only thing that didn't work was the mini-fridge, but you really don't need a mini-fridge in that area of Istanbul - there's fresh food literally right around the corner. The room even had a narrow desk along the TV, and I got some laptop work done. This is an extremely rare feature for hotels in that area, and at that price range. There was also an in-room safe, something not even bigger hotels (e.g. Tryp) offered. My only suggestion would be for a chair with a backrest, to make it more comfortable to do laptop work. Haven't tried the breakfast, which other guests complained about, but apparently you can have breakfast at the sister hotel Maroon Pera, located 2 minutes away. WiFi was stable and fast enough to watch YouTube in 1080p. All in all, excellent value for the money!

Was snowed-in at Istanbul airport and had to find a room back in the city. The hotel i’d been staying in organised this for the night. I was pleasantly surprised. Manager waited til after 1am for me to arrive, the room was clean and quiet (though the city was shut down because of the snow storm), and it was perfectly located, 1 minute from istiklal cadessi. Would happily stay again.

The location of the hotel is superb, right on Istiklal Street. Not in the alley beside Independence Avenue. Downstairs there is a Tudor selling men's shirts and a Dogo selling shoes and bags. There is a Misir Apartment next to it, and there is a panoramic restaurant called 360 on the top floor, which is very good. It is very close to Taksim and Sishane on Line 2, and it is also very close to Galata Tower. It takes less than ten minutes to walk. The street is very lively every day, but it is not noisy when I enter the hotel, and the soundproofing is very good. The hotel belongs to studio / appartement. Coming from the airport, it is recommended to take the airport bus and get off at Taksim, which is within walking distance.

Lovely small hotel in the bylanes off Istiklal. Beautifully designed rooms and comfortable too. The bathroom was splendid (I took pictures because I loved the tiles). Great beds. Lots of in room storage. And I must mention that the room had great lighting too (dim, inadequate lighting in hotel rooms is a pet peeve of mine). Staff were friendly and breakfast was adequate. Another great thing about this hotel is the location. It's surrounded by streets filled with local book shops, art galleries, small indie artists, designers and handmade stores. Absolutely enjoyed discovering and shopping from these hidden gems. It's also walkable to some great restaurants (like Nicole). High street shopping from the likes of Zara etc. are also just a few minutes away on Istiklal street. The hotel is also surrounded by clubs and bars which play music till late, so probably best to keep this in mind and ask for a quieter room. Another thing to note is that the street the hotel is on and the surrounding streets are all on narrow steep slopes, a bit tricky to navigate after a few drinks in the evening (as I discovered), Most taxis will also drop you close-ish but not quite near the hotel because of this too. Overall though, these negatives are very manageable and didn't put us off. Would stay here again!
