Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa

Lamai Beach Koh Samui|2.75km from The Viper Room
My recent three-night stay at the Renaissance Koh Samui was an enchanting journey, filled with an exceptional level of service that beautifully compensated for the hotel's aging facilities. From the outset, the resort's fusion of Asian and Thai architectural elegance warmly welcomed us, accentuated by the delicate blend of styles and the presence of wood-clad interior columns, real wood floors and furniture. This seamless integration of tradition and geographical context, with brick and tropical roof tiles, created a captivating atmosphere. The lush foliage and well-grown trees embraced the surroundings, creating a vivid backdrop that captured the essence of the beachfront location. While time had etched its marks on the facility, the fusion of architectural styles and natural elements into the design remained a captivating feature. Our overall experience was outstanding, even as we encountered a few unforeseen challenges. On our second night, our beachfront BBQ plans were thwarted by the weather. The staff's quick thinking and adaptability came to the forefront as they seamlessly transitioned the venue to an indoor space. The speed and willingness with which the entire BBQ setup was moved indoors showcased the dedication to providing the best service possible. Moreover, on our third night, the pool bar staff went above and beyond by suggesting a private beachfront dinner to make up for the previous night's interruption. Though this well-intentioned plan was again impacted by the weather, their commitment to ensuring our satisfaction remained unwavering. What truly set this experience apart was the unwavering dedication of the staff. Their warmth and attentiveness overshadowed any inconveniences we faced. The restaurant and bar team, led by K. Woody, Honey, and Ken, consistently exceeded our expectations. Their personalized service made us feel genuinely valued as guests. The culinary journey, particularly the breakfast led by Executive Chef Chef Seng, was a delight. Despite the aging signs of the facilities, the culinary offerings maintained an impeccable standard. The coconut water coffee, and Samui Egg Benedict were exceptional, showcasing Chef Seng's expertise in curating a blend of local and international flavors. In summary, my stay at the Renaissance Koh Samui was a testament to the power of exceptional service to transcend the limitations of aging facilities. The resort's captivating fusion of architectural styles, the embracing of its environment, and the staff's dedication created a memorable retreat. The team's responsiveness, especially during weather-related interruptions, demonstrated their commitment to guest satisfaction. As I reflect on my stay, it is clear that the warmth of hospitality and the genuine care extended by the team are what truly define the Renaissance Koh Samui.

So I think you need to read this and ask yourself, what are you paying for? Given the fairly decent price when searching for somewhere to stay for two weeks there were too many compromising issues and so not worth it now with the benefit of hindsight. I do think however you get what you pay for and if you see the price of this place and think it’s a really good deal, the below may go some way to explaining why! And you may not care… like the owners of this place. Room Positives - air con worked great, not noisy at all. Seems newly painted though to a poor standard. Good size for two people, smart TV was unexpected brilliance! Given the rain we had and some nights wanting to stay in, being able to log into streaming services was great. Small fridge freezer was great too given we buy a lot of food in 7/11 rather then eat out all the time. Negatives - Quiet only if you don’t have any neighbours, can hear people moving furniture sometimes but not a lot. The doors leading the balcony are not sound proof at all, so hopefully no one’s shouting at 3am like we had one night. Hope the pouring rain, trilling insects don’t bother you ( helps me sleep but might bother some) Oh and cockroaches. ‘Only’ 2 in a couple weeks but still, not something you want to see in your room! Surprised also to find a gecko in the room, that’s probably a positive given the cockroaches! Bed(ding) - Positives- comfy bed with firm mattress. Large queen size. negatives - Bedding annoyed us the most. We arrive to dirty smelly bedding. Had them change it and they had to do it three times realising each time it wasn’t clean or smelling good. When they make up the room they simply rotate/turn inside out the bedding. We asked them after 7 days to change it again and all they changed were the pillow cases and bed sheet. It’s easy to tell given all the stains in the bedding making each one unique! Wet-room - it’s is what it is. It’s fine but there’s lots of mould around the sink and the mirror is peeling. Simple to fix but they don’t bother. Staff - Positives - they are there if you do need to find someone. Generally look to resolve anything when asked Negatives - quite apathetic to providing a proactive service. Which is odd for Thais, they are great people but here they are almost devoid of their normal smiles and eagerness to engage with you. Every interaction is a transaction with as few words as possible. Pools and loungers Positives - location overlooking the sea is amazing! Great sea breeze, palm trees, good stretch of the beach. Negatives - Pools are ok, the water is murky, doesn’t seem like they try to maintain a clear pool. But they are good size and look nice and are clean of debris. The loungers are not managed, people claim them overnight or early morning and some don’t even turn up leaving two towels all day and they are not used, staff should work to remove claimed loungers after a time of not being used so others can have them. They seem to be the lou

This is our second stay at this hotel and we chose this firstly due to the location. It is directly on the beach close to bars and restaurants. The pool has had an upgrade since last time we stayed and appears to have been newly tiled. The pool is nice but not too big and can get crowded when you get a few people using inflatables. There is no children's pool unfortunately but the pool is open from 6 am to 9 pm so you can find a quiet time. There are some beds available on the beach in front of the hotel but I noticed people were putting towels on them as they were under the trees which was not good. The grounds are lovely as you feel like you are nestled in a jungle and the rooms are private but a little dated and on the smaller side. Breakfast was the same each day consisting of scrambled egg, bacon, potatoes, yogurt, fruits, toast, cereals, croissants and a couple of Thai alternatives. The staff come round to ask if you want omelettes or fried eggs etc but sometimes neglect to bring the order. An egg station would possibly be better in the restaurant. Also there is good cheese and ham but this is not covered and there is a problem with flies particularly round the jam jars as the lids are off. The staff are all very pleasant and accommodating and the menu is varied in the restaurant with meals/drinks available during the day. All rooms now have internet and you can watch Netflix etc and you are supplied with 4 bottles of water daily which is more than most hotels provide. Tea and coffee is available and a kettle in the room. Wi-Fi is good too. Maid service is excellent and I noticed the staff cleaning the beach too. This hotel is sometimes quite expensive on some of the sites but if you can get a good deal it is worth the money for what you get but don’t pay over the odds.

Service excellent, villa very big, good lighting, but no light at the bed,so bring a small torch.Good bed.Breakfast good, especially we liked the big choice of fresh fruit juices.Unfortunately the restaurant closes at 6pm, but there are 3 good Thai restaurants next door.No breakfast buffet. You have to order the breakfast for the following day right after your breakfast. Not all people know today what they would like to eat the next day.No deck chairs at the beautiful beach, but enough around the pool.As the way to the resort is quite steep, it is not suitable for handicapped people. We were happy and can recommend this resort.

Exellent budget hotel near Lamai beach. About 4-5 min walk to beach (restaurant Bamboo - for exellent cheap food) and SIWA bar (for swimming and chill). Hotel is in a heart of Lamai, but very queit plane. Hotel is old but is awesome clean. Owners is extremly kind, helpfull and nice. Good size of the room. Good AC. Our room was with terrace. I highly recommend this hotel. Price is low, about 25 euro per night per two people (best location and beach on few minutes)

A good hotel for its cost. Everything is within reasonable, food, room background, beach, territory and purity. Choosing a hotel for 700-800 dollars is not worth expecting anything supernatural. The rooms are ordinary, painted, old furniture and plumbing, but everything is tolerable, again, what can be expected for the budget option? Just clean, the staff is trying to support the hotel with cleaning and a little repair. Food is decent, and varied and taste good, very enjoyed meat dishes, they have a minimum of local spices, good first dishes , was even borshch, surprised, delicious. The territory is not big but well green, pleasant to walk around it. The beach is not big but quite cozy, clean, cleaners walk all the time cleaning dishes and garbage. Incoming water of sand, sea transparent without a huge number of local seamen. Only a lot of ravens have been observed. Behind the hotel area you can also go for a walk, there are souvenir shops next to you, and a fish restaurant, quite good, I advise you to visit. The conclusion is one, a normal hotel, don't wait for my impressions from it, because you don't buy it for $2,000. Good rest 

The rooms inside are old-fashioned as if grandmother had a daddy. But - super location in a quiet alley and 2 minutes to the center. There is all necessary - a refrigerator, air conditioner, TV, a table where you can put a laptop, which is just super for this money. Hot water, shampoo, soap, all there is.
