I chose Sign of the Angel as an overnight stop during a Wiltshire weekend trip, especially because it's one of the few places to stay in a village that is quite tourist-oriented. Spending the night in Lacock is indeed a good way to experience it before and after fellow tourists arrive, as often happens in such popular small places. The architecture alone is stunning, and the interiors are tastefully decorated. The room itself was on the bigger side, and had some interesting design choices and details. Some features might be a bit uncomfortable (i.e. very low ceilings), but then it's part of the experience. I had dinner too and was remarkable. I opted for their retake on Chicken Kiev paired with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, followed by the most decadent chocolate mousse. The breakfast, ça va sans dire, was good and hearty as well. Service overall was satisfying too, and the young ladies I met were all very kind. All in all a memorable experience, especially for the location and the history of the place. Would love to go back.
