The food was fantastic, faultless roasts with tender meat, beautifully cooked veg, crispy potatoes, and huge Yorkshire puddings. Very generous portions and great value for money. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating from taking our booking over the phone to giving us complimentary desserts due to the delay caused by making fresh pastry. They took the service charge off to buy we added it back on and paid it as the service was so wonderful and we had had such a great experience. Will be back!

The food was fantastic, a faultless funday roast, huge Yorkshire puddings, tender beef and pork, generous portions, and the staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating from taking our booking over the phone through to taking our puddings off the bill because of a delay. A lovely experience and we will definitely be back

We went as a table of 8 a minute of friends and family. Most of us had 3 courses. Although we was the only large table on a Monday evening the service was very poor. The manager accidentally poured a bottle of tonic and a glass of wine over the back of our guest… all over the back of her hair and clothes… It was an accident yet no discount or drinks offered and they still charged service charge. This wasn’t the only thing that was bad. The food was just ok nothing special not very enjoyable even the coffee was cold! We chose this place because of the historical ambience for our guests/friends who had come over from Australia. I would not recommend this place sadly as I really was looking g forward to the meal etc

Had lunch here, hoping it would be high end food. The food was average and chairs uncomfortable. Also asked for a table in view of the fireplace and did not get one. Will not return but go to the The Red Lio instead. Disappointing as I expected something else since it is such a beautiful building.

Lovely place. Staff good. Vegan food was not good. The chairs were too low and extremely uncomfortable (I have a problem with my hip), although staff bought me a cushion. The vegan burgers were so dry they were inedible. Chips were not good well either. There were 5 of us. The 3 other meals were ok but not great.

It’s a lovely quirky old building in the heart of Lacock. Our room was comfortable and had a great bath. We really objected to the background muzak in the dining areas at dinner and breakfast. It was so inappropriate. We felt like we were sitting in a supermarket rather than a beautiful very historic house. Whilst we were comfortable in our room, the hotel seems to have no heart and feels very impersonal. No welcoming info anywhere about what’s around the area to explore and a sitting room with a fake fire. Sadly, we won’t be back.

My room was charming and characterful, the atmosphere of the hotel was great and the restaurant had a good range to choose from.

I chose Sign of the Angel as an overnight stop during a Wiltshire weekend trip, especially because it's one of the few places to stay in a village that is quite tourist-oriented. Spending the night in Lacock is indeed a good way to experience it before and after fellow tourists arrive, as often happens in such popular small places. The architecture alone is stunning, and the interiors are tastefully decorated. The room itself was on the bigger side, and had some interesting design choices and details. Some features might be a bit uncomfortable (i.e. very low ceilings), but then it's part of the experience. I had dinner too and was remarkable. I opted for their retake on Chicken Kiev paired with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, followed by the most decadent chocolate mousse. The breakfast, ça va sans dire, was good and hearty as well. Service overall was satisfying too, and the young ladies I met were all very kind. All in all a memorable experience, especially for the location and the history of the place. Would love to go back.

I have always loved this hotel and couldn't wait to come back during my visit to lacock. Sadly its been taken over by new owners and its really gone down hill. I am 13 months post bariatric surgery and as such asked if I could have a child's portion. The waitress was lovely and said that was no problem. It was a fixed menu with a choice of 2 or 3 courses. My roast was nice, the beef a little tough but otherwise pleasant. My desert was flavourless and disappointing and I could only manage a couple of spoonfuls. When the bill came the highly confrontational owner told me I was not a child and therefore can't have the child's meal and that he had done me a favour letting me have a small plate! He was rude, argumentative and entirely determined to stand his ground. I asked for a £6 reduction to the bill, he refused. The irony is that we therefore requested he removed the automatically added service charge of £10.80 leaving him with a table of unhappy customers, an unnecessary argument, £4.80 worse off than he would have been if he hadn't been so stubborn and I will certainly never return.
