Ropewalks Hotel, BW Premier Collection

City Centre Liverpool|0.17km from Tai Pan Buffet
My husband and I visited this weekend for our anniversary. We booked this hotel through secret escapes as it was central, had a 4 star rating and having not been to Liverpool before, we thought it the best location to properly explore the city centre. As soon as we started to walk down Seel street, I knew we'd made a mistake. At around 2pm it was already full of drunk students and we could hear music pounding. Unfortunately it did not get any better when approaching the hotel. When we walked into reception to check in, the music was so loud I could not hear what the receptionist was saying. I made a comment about the music being loud but the receptionist just laughed it off - i assume this is something they hear daily. We went to our room which was actually really nice, a bit basic, but more than ok for one night. Unfortunately the hotel was having problems with the room keycards so we could not get into the room ourselves, but there was always someone on reception to take us up to our room and let us in. After exploring the city centre and having a fab meal at Bem Brasil, we came back to our room around 10pm. If we thought the music was loud before, it was nothing compared to the volume now all the other bars and nightclubs opposite the hotel were open, as well as the bar below the rooms. Don't get me wrong, I like a good night out as well as the next person, i'm not boring by any means, however it felt like we were staying in a nightclub and when you're on a romantic weekend away this is not what you want. Despite the windows being closed (in the hottest room I've ever experienced!) and my husband and I both wearing earplugs, we could not sleep due to the music, which did not stop until 5am! And just when I thought I could get a few hours in before checking out, the bin lorries arrived so for the next couple of hours all we heard was glass bottles being transferred to the bin lorries. In the end we decided to just get up and head for breakfast. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice (cooked full English and continental) however for some reason the hotel thought it appropriate to have dance music playing, albeit quieter than the night before but still, at breakfast?? In the end we checked out around 9am instead of 12 noon - now I know why there is such a late checkout time! When asked about our stay I told them it was the loudest hotel I had ever stayed in and the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said 'its a city centre'. Erm no, city centre or not, the volume was completely out of control. I've stayed in plenty of city centre hotels and never experienced this kind of noise level. Don't get me wrong, this hotel is perfect for stag and hen parties who stroll in when the nightclubs and bars close, but for a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary (at a hotel booked on secret escapes of all places!) this is not the place. The hotel really do need to make guests aware of the level of noise, it isn't just mildly irritant, it is

I booked this hotel for a little break for me & my husband (we are both middle aged). I picked it for location & price. They were both spot on, but I didn't check that it was right in the heart of club land, so we didn't get any sleep from the noise from bars, clubs & party goers. So great for the money, if you want to be out there partying, but not so good when you're older. Upon check out, I mentioned the noise to the receptionist, who told me that I should have requested a quieter room, which I would have done, had I have know that they had them! So upon reflection a) the hotel needs to point out that there are quiet rooms available & b) I'll definately be doing a thorough research on any future city break hotels.

The Noisiest Stay I've had ever!, we were warned by staff to be fair, our room was no6 on the side of the hotel, and the racket outside was going right up till 5am, they do give you ear plugs but they are useless, anyway onto the hotel, our key card didn't work properly nor did other peoples but the lady and gent on the desk make out it's your fault and there isn't a problem and were quite curt and sharp with you, very unprofessional as they are clearly faulty! Decided to have a drink before going to bed in the bar, the music was deafening, no chance to have a chat! And it was awful too, all those compilation songs that everyone hated back in the 80's, really outdated, bar prices were very reasonable, compared to the rest of Lpool town centre where they are a complete rip off, our room was quite small, clean enough but carpets are tired and in need of replacement, bathroom ok bed comfortable enough, breakfast the next morning was good, bacon was lovely, mention for the lady who served us she was very nice and pleasant, considering the £110 cost I was disappointed and would look elsewhere in the future

Obviously we read the good & bad reviews. In my opinion this is a modern hotel with good sized rooms, friendly helpful staff and a nice (small) pool with a sauna & gym. 30% discount on the secure parking at the Q parking opposite was good too. Location in the city centre just on the edge of the L1 shopping eating and drinking area is good too. We were on the 6th floor which was lovely and quiet. There are a few oddities like the separate loo & shower/wash hand basin room facility (didn’t bother us), slightly disobedient lifts and a few minor broken items/scratches etc. Nothing worth moaning about for us. We caught a lucky deal at £65 for the night so value was really good.

Brilliant location, right in the centre. The staff were brill - checked in early and left luggage- when we returned the room wasn’t ready so ordered a wine which came at the same time as our room became available so the staff took it to our room and bags for us. Had a junior suite which was perfect for a family . Complimentary drinks went down a treat pre evening meal. Were booked into the Resident in Covent Garden later this week so hopefully they will be as amazing as the team in Liverpool

We stayed here for 4 nights. Staff were helpful. We wanted something quite central. This apartment ended up being right beside a residential area. It’s quite far from shops etc but it’s manageable for a short stay. Reception isn’t always open so keep that in mind. A little bit stringent when it comes to cutlery, plates etc. They provided a small pot, large pan and chopping board etc. we had to ask reception for a Knife and they are not in the apartment for “safety reasons”. We also asked for extra pillows as we only had one each. The room was very warm each night. Duvet was heavy so wasn’t really used. Only real complaint would be the temperature of the apartment and difficulty drying clothes, for our short trip we found it to be a perfect little place for rest and comfort although for a longer stay you might possibly need to visit a laundromat to dry your washing as there is only a clothes rack to air out your clothing and heated towel rack to actually dry your clothing on, staff are extremely helpful and give great insight on good places to visit/get pictures of!
