What a gem! loved the location, the vibe, the room, the view, the greenery, the frog sounds, the breakfasts, the staff. It was recommended to us by a friend and we highly recommend it to others. The lodge can arrange nature tours. There is a bathing pool in the river below the lodge. Five minutes drive back down the road is wonderful local restaurant, Noelia's, where the food is great and I was able to get delicious vegan empanadas and rice and beans, pasta with veg.

Casa Cubuy offered an exceptionally comfortable and enjoyable stay for my husband and I. We liked being on the south side of El Yunque, which was quieter and far less touristed than the north side. Cubuy is located up a windy mountain road, but boy was it worth it. A beautiful private water fall with natural pools is on site, you can hear the coqui frogs through the night, and the rooms were super clean and comfortable. We were in Room 7 and I recommend getting a room on the third floor (if you are okay with some stairs) to avoid being adjacent to the common areas. The breakfast is SO amazing - fresh fruit, juices, hot coffee, a yummy porridge, and a warm entree. Sit and enjoy chatting with other guests as you overlook a mountain valley. Also, consider doing the UV night hike with Omar/Julia to get a different experience of the forest.

The location is wonderful, on the quieter side of El Yunque and very few people which was amazing once we went to the main entrance of the park the next day and it was crowded like Disney world. The view is fabulous, can see mountains, waterfalls, hear birds and frogs. From the lodge is terrific walk down to river, falls, swimming holes. Matthew is helpful and can give guidance. Breakfast is a treat with wonderful fresh fruit. Stop at the grocery before heading up so you have snacks, picnic food. Shower not super hot, rooms are bare minimum, but location is wonderful. We were just there with three teen, young 20’s kids.

The bed and breakfast is super well situated with two private hikes that lead to fresh water cascade lagoons where you can swim in the natural waterfall. The views are amazing and the breakfast is refreshing! Such a pleasure to be perched up in the rainforest, especially when Skip is teaching us about the different birds right in front of us like a postcard! Cute little hangout spots in the common area and our room had a private patio and hammock! The hosts are so welcoming, greeting us with fresh fruit, toast and eggs! They even drove us down the road to the nearby restaurant (Noelia’s - you have to check it out!) and we’re very accommodating.

I don’t normally do reviews but this place is truly special, and a very unique experience. If you are expecting a resort experience, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking to connect to nature, slow down, and immerse yourself in the views this is definitely the spot. The owners are lovely and the breakfast was top notch. You have access to incredible hiking trails and swimming spots. It is off the beaten path which makes the experience even better, but it is still relatively easy to get down to the grocery, restaurants etc. we will be coming back!

Our family of 3 stayed for 4 nights at Casa Cubuy in December and had the most relaxing time in nature. The room we stayed in was simple yet comfortable and roomy, and had the most magnificent view of the rainforest and waterfalls. Marianne and Matthew were wonderful hosts and gave us great information on the nearby hikes and restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was included everyday and was so delicious. We loved eating all the fresh fruit, porridge, eggs, hash browns, french toast and breakfast burritos. We also did the Birding Before Breakfast tour and Nocturnal Rainforest Walk with Skip during our stay and enjoyed both immensely. We highly recommend Casa Cubuy for anyone looking for a tranquil and relaxing stay in the rainforest away from the crowds.

You are actually in the rainforest (El Yunque). You can go to sleep listening to the rain forest sounds. The choqui frogs are awesome ! There is a path that you can take to the Cubuy river. Our children had a great time splashing about in the river. And it's an easy walk to proper hiking trails in El Yunque. And the breakfast is awesome ! As other reviewers have pointed out, this is a truly once in a lifetime experience. Our family will have fond memories of it and we are truly grateful to Marianne and Matthew for running this awesome place.

Love, love, love this secluded place! Hostel/backpacker vibe. Free wifi, breakfast, nice hosts, kitchen access. Private trail to river/natural pool/waterfall. Great jungle views and sounds...waterfall, coqui etc. I only know what my room was like...very primitive but adequate, with fan en-suite and my favorite (and last favorite) part: views to outside and access to common are. When nobody around during day, feels like you have an extended living room and personal hammock etc. Starting at around 8 am...lots of folks eating breakfast and talking loudly outside the room...I needed to get up anyway!!!

An excellent experience in the rainforest on the boarder of the National Park, El Yunque. A beautiful breakfast with tropical fruit is served every morning as part of your stay. Hiking trails are a must.
