El Fenn Is a beautiful Riad with magical courtyards, fluffy fat cats lazing on velvet chairs, enthusiastic little turtles feeding on lettuce leaves in the day, and obediently sleeping in a group of 6, at sunset. The huge doors open into a mysterious magical space, cool and dark, an elegantly attired attendant mans the giant doors at all times. The rooms are delightfully decorated in earthy tones, super comfortable beds, fine linen. Each room is unique with its own ambience and character. All of them are lovely. We found one that resonated with us and settled in for a six day stay. The head concierge Belaid, is bright eyed and very organised. Exceptional service. He was on hand to attend to all our needs. The team is on top of suggestions and reservations for restaurants, spas, and tours. Yassine and Ayoub were fantastic with concierge services too. Ask for it and it shall be done. Mimi was very adorable and very efficient at all that we asked. Wafa is a smiling member of the housekeeping staff who collects your laundry and brings it back freshly ironed. Atif in the black and white tiled breakfast courtyard deserves a special mention for wonderful service and attitude. Chef Hassan learned to make masala chai just like we make at home and it was poured out with a flourish from a silver teapot. The rooftop bar is very special with Uber cool cocktails served with panaché. We enjoyed their in house spa and hamam. The location is simply unbeatable, El Fenn sits just within the ramparts of the walled Medina making it easily accessible. Tapers are lit and lanterns are gently glowing with soft flames as soon as it is dark. All the courtyards are very peaceful. Lie on magenta cushions in the middle courtyard, lounge and read a book on the giant deep gold divan in the first courtyard, sip your coffees and drinks in the third courtyard which also has a pool. If you’re going to Marrakech, El Fenn is a must.
