Hotels near Salt Pans in Marsalforn

We stayed here as part of a tour group for 3 nights and the positives certainly outweighed the negatives. So let's start with the positives. The hotel has a 24 hour reception, which certainly assisted our group, as we didn't arrive until after midnight - and the check-in and help from the staff was excellent. That excellence was maintained for our entire stay. The hotel is well located amongst dozens of restaurants and overlooked the harbour. We were fortunate enough to have a room overlooking the harbour and small beach, with the room being large and roomy, although the bathroom relatively small. We had a table and chairs, air con, hair dryer, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The hotel's own amenities included a rooftop pool and large terrace area with banana lounges and umbrellas, plus an indoor bar on the rooftop. There was also a restaurant in the hotel (which we didn't use for dinner) and breakfast was good, with real orange juice, proper bread to toast (compared to a number of other hotels we had stayed at) and a wide selection of hot and cold dishes. The negatives were that the hotel is a bit dated and tired and in need of a spruce up, from top to bottom. Plus, unfortunately our shower/bath had a leak, which we did report to reception. Notwithstanding that, we were very happy with our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in the area.

Well, what a great hotel. We arrived on the opening day after a name change from the last hotel name (same owners, different name) We was meant to go to Las Vegas but it didn't happen so we went to Malta. The Hotel was stll being refurbished but a lot of the rooms was open, We was given room 3124 a gorgeous room, with a really nice view. We was shown to our room by Vikky (Viktoria, the Guest Relations Manager) after being checked in by Natalia (i think) We also got a bottle of wine for our long awaited honeymoon as our honeymooon kept being cancelled including the Las Vegas one. As Hilton Diamond members we get breakfast included in our room rate, Breakfast is an expansive affair with far too much to choose from, i went for Salad, i know, crazy right. but topped it off with a nice omelette. The outdoor pool is small but very good, the indoor pool much larger but far too hot for us. Service is great and fast, they was always out taking orders and bringing drinks quickly so you could enjoy more outdoor time. After a few days of being there we asked if we could upgrade to All Inclusive which turned out to be very good, we'd done everything we wanted to do in St Paul's bay so wanted to hang in or near the hotel. All the food is delicious and drinks, although confusing of what was allowed for AI customers, i made the suggestion of having a drinks menu of what drinks ARE allowed as we got a lot of you 'can't have that' A few members of staff made our stay really fantastic and always took the time to say hi and have a great conversation. These include Vikki (GRM) Lorenzo (bar supervisor) Jason in the same bar, always happy, always friendly and Desislav Juniper bar and other staff that we just didn't get their names. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the main Square with a vast amount of shops, bars and restaurants. This used to be the old Dolmen Hotel and they have retained a lot of their staff, it's been nice seeing them adapt to a new system which can be challenging but they will get there in time. At the time of writing this review, there still are building works going on but getting less and less as its all getting finished. We stayed for 2 nights in early October, after reading the reviews , and before a business meeting on the main Island. The hotel was quite nice, had a lift, room was clean and tidy with a cute 4 poster bed. The ensuite worked well. It is right near a Church. The bus to Victoria is just outside around the Church. There are a number of lovely eateries around, including the Fat Rabbit under the hotel itself. The best part however was Frankie. This manager made the place special and I wish we could have stayed longer. He was helpful, engaged and a fountain of information. He even took our luggage to Port on our last day so we could utilize the morning better. We also appreciated the transport from the airport directly to Gozo , on the car ferry, which we pre-arranged. If there is something that could be improved is that details of what is a breakfast inclusion should be made clearer. Thank you for a lovely stay in Gozo!

We recently returned to the Paradise Bay resort a year on from getting married there on the beach outside the Porto Lounge. The hotel is amazing, whatever room you have you are going to have a view either of Paradise bay with its beach and constant coming and goings of yachts and speed boats, people swimming in the clear blue waters or on the other side, looking out over the south Comino straight with all its water traffic and the ferry port with the constant activity of the ferries going over to Gozo. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, fridge and TV, although English channels are few and far between, and are well cleaned everyday. It may not be to everyone’s choice as it is a little isolated but the excellent bus service from right outside the door can take you wherever you want to be around this beautiful island and buses run every few minutes and for just 2 euros you can go to the next stop or the other end of the island, can’t fault them. The hotel has a choice of four swimming pools, three outdoor and one indoor, including a small jacuzzi, all are well maintained, clean and certainly no shortage of sun loungers. The inside public areas are clean and comfortable and the restaurant the same, however, although the quality of the food served in the restaurant is good, choices can be a little limited and sometimes we found the table turnaround was a bit chaotic, with people wandering around looking for a clean prepared table, that said we never had to wait too long and enjoyed everything we did have to eat. All in all we would thoroughly recommend the Paradise Bay resort to anyone and we will certainly be returning there in the future.

This is my second year staying at this hotel. I absolutely loved it the first time (last year) and loved it even more this year. My room was fantastic, clean and had a great sea view terrace. The pool is great and not too crowded. There weren't that many children staying there so it was very peaceful. The poolside service was really efficient. The bar menu had improved from last year. So there was more choice and it was of a better quality. I had several spa treatments and all of the staff were excellent. Millie was particularly fantastic and welcoming. I was impressed by her professionalism. I cannot wait to stay there again. Thank for such a memorable stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Me and my husband were guests of Solana hotel and Spa for the past week and i have to say that our experience was incredible. Regarding accommodation we had a decent room which was always properly cleaned, the only problem that we faced was the thin walls from which we could hear everything going from other rooms. Regarding the food and beverage department, we had various of restaurants to choose such as the Tosca, Prickly Pear, Belini and Top Deck, where we always had a nice dining experience served by polite and kind staff, however a person who left us an impeccable impression was Sara. She always greeted us with a smile, made us amazing cocktails which shows that she is quite good at her job, we enjoyed talking to her. Overall we are satisfied with our stay in the hotel, and would definitely recommend it to others!!!

The service was exelent by very professional and helpful staff. Food (breakfast) was very good and well organised. Inroom facilities is also very excellent and the room was literally spotless. The A/C really was the cherry on the cake. I been to a vast number of hotels in Malta and this is really one of the top choices for me.

On the first 2 days, the toilet smelt really bad whenever we flushed it, we think the pipe had a leak somewhere. On the first night, the sheets on our bed were wet and smelt really stale. When we asked for them to be changed, the staff took the sheets off the bed in another room, but they told us they weren't sure if they were even clean but the cleaning staff had gone home so we had no choice! We also found bugs in our sheets later that night (see picture). The restaurant staff are friendly but in serious need of training - whichever coffee we ordered, we ended up with white coffee and they took away our plates on more than one occasion before we had finished eating. We were told we could book a late check-in, but when we went to secure it, we were told it was no longer possible, meaning we had to change our travel plans on our last day and carry heavy bags around with us all day. Other little things let this hotel down e.g. they charge 4.50EUR for a bottle of water as there are no shops around late at night. For reference, a similarly sized bottle of water is around 2EUR in the shops. Not a huge deal, but it all adds up. The rooftop pool is very small and extremely laden with chemicals - if you get any in your eyes, you will be in pain. It is also in another building, so not all that convenient. Overall we would not recommend the Segond Hotel, especially at this price point.
