After 6 hours of driving, we were thrilled to see our beautiful hotel where we had booked the 'Chambre de Maitre', on the first floor. Huge windows, a lovely terrace on the river and one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in, plus a antique desk with hidden treasures and an immense armoire. The bathroom was enormous, filled with every amenity, and great views also from its windows. The charming public rooms on the ground floor offered an inviting fireplace, a grand piano and comfortable chairs and tables for an aperitif or game of cards. Because of Covid 19, the splendid dining room on the 1st floor was closed, but we enjoyed our copious breakfasts and one exceptional dinner in the cozier dining space on the ground floor. Staff was very welcoming, but every precaution was taken against spreading germs, and as we were almost alone (there was one other couple one night), there was little danger.
