Rydges Newcastle, an EVT hotel

Newcastle|1.3km from Bathers Cafe
I'll start by saying, Thank you Rydges Newcastle - we enjoyed our stay so much. We booked 3 nights stay over the long weekend and despite having some hiccup in the room booking (which was sorted swiftly) - we loved our stay. Rooms were clean, comfortable bed and pillows. Our room overlooked the harbour and had a good view. Housekeeping service was prompt. Buffet breakfast was good though I was a little disappointed I couldn't get the pancake machine working and hence missed out on my favourite breakfast - pancake :( Our biggest disappointment was the TV - we had two in the room but neither could be used to cast from our mobile devices (Android, or iOS). It was disappointing because we can only watch free to air channels or pay a premium price for movies (around $35) - I hope this will improve in future as most hotels allows casting. The hotel had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Things that can be improved: - Sofa bed - not very comfortable for sleeping. The blanket had dusty smell. - Pool - not heated and no shade. - Place food labels on breakfast buffet - it helps people like me to pick the right food (I don't eat beef)- example beef sausage vs chicken sausage. - Lid for take away coffee - Update Wharf Bar drink menu in the hotel website. Staff were busy but friendly. The hotel is within walking distance to many good restaurants along the waterfront. We also enjoyed the cocktail, beer and coffee from Wharf Bar. We are already looking to book our next stay here.

YHA Newcastle Beach
3.9/527 Reviews
For a hostel, the Newcastle Beach YHA is a great value for money. Location is perfect, 5 minute walk to the beach, right off the light rail from the train station and overall quiet (minus weekends). The vintage home has great curb appeal and is in overall good condition inside. The stained glass windows, deep couches and foyer/staircase are very comfortable to relax in. Kitchen is a little tired but overall in good condition and well stocked. Laundry worked well too and powder is available for sale. The bedrooms can get really warm and stuffy, even with the window open. And with no air con, summer would be hot here. Good storage with outlets in the rooms but the bed squeak and move around a lot of both bunks are filled. WiFi works well in the common space too. And the hostel has activities during the week, like a free sausage sizzle, which was fun. My only quibble was how well the WHV kids living there cleaned the place. Watching a few of them while eating or cooking, it seemed like a quick touch and go job. Kitchen doesn’t seem to be cleaned out regularly as I could smell rotting food regularly in the fridge. Would recommend it and would stay again, but if you want quieter atmosphere, don’t go on weekends.
Ibis Newcastle

Convenient location, located in the central business district, easy to shop, very close to the sea, you can walk to the beach to see the sea. Breakfast is also good, variety, and delicious.
Grand Hotel
4/5100 Reviews
We have stayed at the Grand many times and have always loved it for its history, architectural style, and cleanliness. We were greatly disappointed by our last stay, to find the attention to detail was lacking and the room (Grand room 7) was in a state of disrepair. The bathroom had broken towel rails and moldy tiles, missing stonework from the fireplace, random scruffy miss-matched furniture, a grubby ironing board in the poorly built wardrobe, the pillows were thin and lumpy. The accommodation is not at the high standard it once was and it's sad to see the once smart and stylish decor has deteriorated. Also, be aware, the website advertises on-street parking, however, this part of town is very busy and it's tricky to find a park in the street or the parking station across the road, which charges $40 for 1 overnight stay. This hotel is in an excellent location and is close to the beach, cafes, and CBD. There are lovely views of the Cathedral from the corner balcony and you can hear the sea at night. I hope the hotel management will take the time to repair the damage in the rooms and give the place a good scrub and replace some of the out-of-place furniture. We love this place but would hesitate to stay again based on our last experience. Currently, it does not meet the standard expected for 4-star accommodation, and at $179 per night, it was very disappointing.
Noah's on the Beach

Opposite is the main beach. It is still very convenient to play the beach and the sea. The restaurant has a 180-degree floor view. You can enjoy it at breakfast. It is really good. There is a free low parking garage. It is two standard rooms connected together, which is really good. The bed in the standard room is very large, which is very convenient for family use. It ’s important to say that the hotel ’s restaurant service is really good. When I arrived at the hotel, one of my noodle cooker lines fell into the previous hotel and I went back to get it for another 2-3 hours. Later, I negotiated with the restaurant. Since the restaurant ca n’t cook takeaway food, the manager helped me think of a way to soak the noodles in hot water and then turn them in the microwave. Finally, Erbao had noodles and was happy. Wonderful. There are some shopping malls near the hotel, you need to go a little earlier, and there are many Chinese shops, dim sum shops and Japanese food shops, as well as spicy spicy pots. The closer you are to Sydney, the more Chinese food features appear. The ice cream shop opposite the hotel must go, go early in the evening, usually Australian shops open late in the morning, especially on weekends, and close at 8-9 in the evening.
The Young Street Hotel

We had a late lunch with friends and shared a Newy pizza. It was absolutely delicious! When we placed our order it must have become lost and because our meal was arriving a little later than normal we were given free drinks all around. Both the chef and the waiter were apologetic, helpful and charming. We both would definitely recommend eating here for the delicious food, fantastic service and homely surroundings!
The Lucky Hotel

Awesome accommodation, amazing and compassionate staff (especially Demi). The rooms are always clean. There can be better rooms for the same price/cheaper elsewhere but I always prioritise The Lucky when booking as they always look after us. Additional bonus, they have a lift for accessibility.
