We had an excellent Sunday lunch of belly of pork. Large portions and friendly staff. Be careful leaving their car park as visibilty is difficult and traffic tends to speed through the village.

We had a lovely Mother's day meal. The food was great, the roasts was delicious. My toddler had the battered cod and wmit was lovely piece of fish! The roast felt sohomemade, and the gravy was so rich! Lovely Eton mess pudding. Staff were attentive. I'm not keen on a service charge anywhere I go. I like to give a tip if I feel they have been great, not have it demanded on the bill. But ... I didn't mind here as they couldn't have been better.

A difficult place to review, as its a bit like the curates egg (good in parts), which is probably a little unfair as it was actually good in many areas. On arrival, from outside the premises looked a little unkept, but the interior belied the first impressions, being nicely decorated and laid out, with a roaring woodfire adding to the ambience. The bedroom was quirky with sloping floors (not a criticism, just an observation) although the decor needed tidying up in the window bay. The bed was comfy and the bathroom nicely appointed with lashings of hot water. The service was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful, as was the landlord. The evening meals were well cooked and tasty and reasonably priced and the beer was good. Its a good location for a number of National Trust properties (Batemans, Scotney Castle, Smallhythe and others, as well as the heritage railway at Tenterden. NB if you want the room made over, please put the hanger outside the door or advise the staff

Another great stay. Cards on the taable I am biased. We have been coming to stay at the White hart for several years now. If it wasn't any good we would not keep coming back. A traditional 17th (?) century inn with a huge roaring firepllace. Great quality well kept ales. (The brewery from the local brewery drinks his own brew here so he must know something!) From the moment you walk in the door there is a warm welcome from a team that all seem happy to be there. The food we had was amazing and the sunday roast one of the best we've ever had. We are counting the days until we can come down and stay again. As you may see from our other reviews of the White Hart don't expect a generic hotel experience but if you want a quirky tradional British Inn full of great things and great people this is the place.

Attended with a group of friends for a drink and a bite to eat. We got our drinks and sat down to study the bar menu. I chose the ham, egg and chips at £12.99 and went to the bar to order. The staff member punched my order into the till, and said “that will be £14.28 please”. When I queried the price difference, I was told that this due to the 10% service charge. I asked why this was being charged this amount and was told “it was standard in the hospitality industry now”. It isn’t. Was also told the service charge was mentioned on the menu. It wasn’t. I don’t mind tipping or paying a service charge if someone has waited on our table and genuinely delivered good service, but to be forced to pay it for someone to walk a plate from the kitchen to table is a bit much.

We stayed overnight at the White Hart, enjoyed drinks in the beer garden and also had a fantastic dinner in the dining room. The pub is beautiful, so much history and the open fire place is fantastic. Every member of staff that we met was extremely friendly and welcoming. Dinner in the dining room was delicious and great value. The pizzas are amazing and the salad I had was huge! The room we had overnight was a very good size with a gorgeous bathroom. The only things to be aware of is that due to the historical nature of the building, noise does travel up from the pub to the rooms above. We could literally hear word for word the conversations down below! Also if you are taller in height,be prepared to duck in the bathroom especially! I would definitely recommend for a drink, dinner or overnight stay.

We always drive down quiet roads when returning home, to find ourselves the more remote pubs/restaurants and the quieter villages. We found this pub/restaurant on the way through on our Sunday coming back and stopped in. We have 2 dogs and we’re allowed inside in a smaller niche area. Ordered a couple of drinks and presented with a menu allowing us to choose 1, 2 or 3 courses for a set price. Whether it be a Sunday menu or daily menu, the main courses were orientated around the roast dinner. There were variations of starters and deserts but we were here for the mains. I had the slow belly pork and partner the chicken roast. The quality of the meats were A1 both in taste and presentation served with trimmings, veg and Yorkshire. There was plenty to eat to which neither of us finished ourselves. The staff were attentive and polite, not only to us but also the dogs. Well worth a stop. Although we passed through on a cold winters day, there is a decent size garden looking over a field with plenty of seating
