Old, great location, inconvenient public toilets

I have stayed here for more than 30years but atmosphere remains same as good as before. But I stayed at 3rd floor this time and Wifi did not work due to distance from access point at 1st floor.

We love this hotel but be prepared for the street noise - you may need earplugs for the 4:00 AM garbage trucks on Monday morning and for the smaller rooms and bathrooms of an old downtown hotel. That said - the location is incredibly convenient, staff is outstanding, period decor and architecture is lovely, and it is just ten minutes from the Stanford medical center.

The hotel has an old time feel which is charming Ina certain sense, but a little run down feeling at the same time. And my room had a weird smell on it when I arrived (which was basically addressed by opening my window for the day while I was out)

Wonderful place to stay that is in the middle of wonderful dining and easy walk to Stanford

The room was a little small but very, very clean! A very old building but the rooms were redone, so a great mix of old and new!

Hotel was super old fashioned, charming and beautiful. Absolutely perfect location in walking distance of everything in town! We will only stay here when going to Palo Alto again!

We enjoyed an outstanding experience at the Cardinal Hotel. Location, area and proximity to Stanford Stadium were perfect. The staff was kind and attentive. The breakfast at Maxine’s Bistro was excellent.

Incredible staff, went above and beyond with room and overall arrangements. The mattress and bedding are some of the most comfortable I've slept on in any hotel in any country! Perfect location to all. If you are a light sleeper, take note that you will hear the people above you if you stay on the second floor, since it is a historic hotel with wood floors.

The room was pretty spartan for the price! There should be rugs or carpet, for example. I like the charm of the lobby, and the old-time feel of the place, but the room needs to be redecorated.

Front desk was super friendly and the room I got was very comfortable. I love the charm and character of the hotel and the room was updated and very clean. Thanks for providing ear plugs - definitely heard the downtown noise but you provided something to counter it.

Retro looking but with modern comfort and service. Great location and would love to come back in the future

This is a hotel from the early 20th century that retains some of the features, and the charm, of the original. It is conveniently located in downtown Palo Alto within easy walking distance of Cal Trans and public transportation.
