I recently stayed at the Shells Hotel, and my experience was extremely disappointing. I would rate it only three stars due to numerous issues that left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied throughout my stay.
1. Outdated and Unclean Rooms: The hotel is clearly outdated, and it feels like it hasn't been renovated in years. The rooms are tired, unclean, and have a generally depressing atmosphere. It's impossible to enjoy your stay in such a worn-out environment.
2. Old, Dirty Beach Towels: The towels given at the beach are in horrible condition. They are old, stained, and should have been discarded long ago. Often, they are just reused dirty towels from the previous day, making it extremely uncomfortable to even lie down.
3. Inappropriate Behavior from Beach Staff: Staff members on the beach smoke, which is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber. This completely ruins the relaxing atmosphere that guests expect.
4. Messy Beach Area: There are cleaning tools and equipment scattered across the beach, which should be stored in a separate, closed-off area. It gives the place an unkempt, unprofessional look.
5. Poor Housekeeping Service: Every day, housekeeping would forget to provide fresh towels or bathrobes, and I had to constantly remind them. This is basic service that should be taken care of without having to ask multiple times.
6. Terrible Food: The food at the hotel is dreadful. Almost every dish is bland and poorly prepared. It’s hard to believe that a 5-star hotel could offer such low-quality meals.
7. Lack of Essential Amenities: There is no hair conditioner and body lotion in the room, which is a standard amenity in any decent 5-star hotel. This felt like a significant oversight for a hotel claiming to be of high quality.
1. Overcharging for Basic Services: The hotel tries to make extra money on basic services that should be included in a luxury experience. For example, ordering a taxi at inflated prices. It’s better to use Grab or another app. The exchange rate they offer for currency conversion is also ridiculously uncompetitive.
The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location in a quiet area by the sea. However, this does not make up for the many shortcomings.
In conclusion, this hotel does not deserve its 5-star rating. It is more like a 3-star property at best.
