Dom Hotel Roma - Preferred Hotels & Resorts

Navona Rome|2.62km from Villaggio Globale
This atmospheric and well located hotel is at the very top of our list of hotels to stay in while in Rome. We needed to be at the Vatican everyday; this hotel was perfectly positioned so that we could easily access the Vatican on foot - and also so close to Campo de Fiore and Piazza Navona and the Pantheon (and surrounding neighborhoods), it was easy to find wonderful food after a short walk. (It was also an easy walk to the Forum and the Colosseum). Our double deluxe room was large, with huge windows, an extremely comfortable and large bed and plenty of storage (a built in closet). The bathroom was quite big with good lighting and an excellent hair dryer. Breakfast at the hotel is not to be missed - it was lavish (and was included in our stay) and changed every day (there were always different pastries, quiche, tiny breakfast sandwiches, along with a 'permanent' bar of cereals, juices, the MOST delicious fruit and yogurts). I believe that most of their breads and pastries were made on premise - which is very impresive, given how good they were! The hotel was exceedingly clean in all aspects and the staff was truly wonderful - happy and attentive. I read previous complaints about noise from the carabinieri stationed across the street in front of their building - but it seems that the hotel has installed soundproof windows, so it was easy enough to create a quiet room. It's a lively neighborhood (although this section of Via Giulia isn't lined with bars and restaurants), but the spillover from nearby establishments can sound like a party if you choose to open your windows. We found Hotel Dom very comfortable and accommodating and highly recommend it.

For the sake of being fair: I haven’t managed to see any information about it being a 5-star hotel on the site of Gasometer Suites. So, if it is a “Guest house” or “Bed-and-Breakfast” then I don’t have a single negative word about it to say. It perfectly served our goal to spend a night in Rome before going further in Italy without spending time on getting in and out of center of Rome. But a little problem is that is one makes a google-search for Gasometer Urban Suites, then the search itself, Google Maps and many other sites having hotel listings will Inform one that Gasometer Urban Suites is a 5-star hotel. And this is also what our expectations correspondingly were. Well, G.U.S. has nothing to do with 5-star hotel by far: - Nobody meets arriving guests outside and helps them with their luggage - Even further, by default you are expected to carry your luggage to your room yourself as well. When nothing happened (speaking our luggage) after we were checked in and got room keys and still looking around for 5-starriness, I asked a question to helpful lady at the reception, the answer was: I can, of course help you… and then there was a “but”, so my wife and I ended-up dragging our 3 suitcases to the room ourselves. - Reception itself closes down at 11:00 p.m. and then there is no staff at all in the hotel, not even a night guard. So, if you need anything after that or – God forbid – you have any problem – it is your problem. Further to that, in order to get in, one has to use a room key-card to open a door to get into the hotel in principle. I had experienced many times, when these magnetic keys suddenly stopped working. So, in order to open the room door I had to go to reception and ask them to reprogram one for me. No big deal. Except, here there is no one to ask. Not to mention that people lose or forget things. More than once being late for dinner I was rushing from rooms in various hotels leaving the key inside. All in all, if by some miracle they still haven’t a guest being on the street after 11:00 p.m. and not able to get into hotel, because the door is locked and there is nobody there to assist, it is only a matter of time. - No house-keeping stuff available at 08:00 p.m. already (maybe much earlier, but this is when we arrived), so extra towels, extra water, extra-everything-else we required were brought by the receptionist. She also had to assist with cleaning-up (thanks to her, but it isn’t really her job at all), when I clumsily dropped the liquid soap trying to open it. And, no, they don’t have regular soap in bars. - When you book an airport transfer from any reasonable hotel, you of course pay much higher than for a taxi. But then you have a driver meeting you right in the arrival hall, who will show you directly to the car waiting and in majority of cases the car itself will be a Mercedes (speaking Europe at least). I also did book a transfer through G.U.S. paying euro 60,00 for 25 minutes’ drive. And by some reason foolishly exp

Accommodation is always important and I must say I had a great experience with this hostel. Sometimes I even forgot it was a hostel. I had a single room and a private bathroom. The room was small and cute. Always clean and housekeeping came everyday. I was reluctant to choose a hostel when visiting Rome because I had a unpleasant experience when I visited Sydney but if other hostels provided the attention I was given such as Radio hotel, I would most certainly not be reluctant prior to booking. There was a little issue with a small leak from the bidet in the bathroom and when I mentioned it to the front desk, it was fixed immediately. Every single person I encountered at the front desk were very nice and provided me with great detail how to explore the city and best travel options to get there. As a single female traveler I did not feel uncomfortable at any time. The train station near to this hostel is Roma Travestere. About a 8 minute walk or so from the hostel which you can buy train tickets to visit other cities if you wish. There is also the number 8 tram near the train station which will take you directly into the hotspot where you can roam and see great sites like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps etc. Thumbs up to this place.

Where to begin, the B&B Hotel Rome, placed the booking through a 3rd party firm, not something I'd usually choose but seemed okay. Now the hotels actually nice overall. Walls are abit thin so you can hear upstairs on a night like they was in the bathroom next to you, beds comfy, rooms clean and shower room was nice. Pressure and heat all good along with the decent working aircon system. Wasn't in room much to be fair but yea the room we had was okay. Breakfast area looks like some school canteen from 2010 but essentially does the job. Nice coffee and savouries. Not really needed though when outside there is loads of local cafes far cheaper. Bit pointless. Breakfast outside is maybe 5 euros for coffee and pastries. Where this review takes a sudden turn was the end. Started really with the receptionist (staff member). A young man with glasses (polite and well mannered).  Helpful enough at the beginning but was very insistent on getting us to book a taxi back to the airport days in advance, Infact when we arrived it's all he was talking about before giving us the lock code to the room. Now we'd usually do Uber but was told it was early and traffic to that airport can be a nightmare. Ubers may decline jobs etc, The gent was kind enough upto this point to help us with restaurant options and travel plans via busses. So why not use the hotel to book us a cab back to campino airport. So the gentleman said 50 euros. Private taxi. Now 50 euros is alot as ubers about 42 euros in traffic but its booked and private hire with proper taxi driver, Still this was alot but its private and booked so we'll pay 50 euros ... what a bad idea this was!. So After waking up far too early for this highly staged and planned airport run. We arrived to the reception to see a very smiley young cab driver. ”To the airport yes, booked yes, Airporto, Room number ***”. From this we got in the taxi and we was underway. The Jounrey was crazily fast, no need at all to be up so early. No traffic. First daft decision I realised and the overwhelming thought then started setting in. On arriving at the airport the taxi driver turned to us and requested 60 euros for what is at best a 38 euro trip normally, Plus we'd been told 50 remember at reception by the eager staff member booking everyones taxis and telling us everytime he saw us that he had ”booked our taxi” with a cheesy smile. Then also turned out he didn't take card as was mentioned by the hotel worker ... This ended up an awful experience. Alot of shouting and waving hands. Taxi driver very aggressive, Not the best end. And all because we never booked an uber but instead took a staged taxi run from what obviously was the staff members ”Friend” in a taxi. Maybe a deal they have on going. If its not I do apologise but very much seems this way. So now to the owners of the hotel !. You may care or not, but this is going on in the hotel. And it really ruined the end of our holiday. We'll never stay there again. Which is

L'acqua in bottiglietta era omaggio.
