This place is not a hotel. More serviced rooms. We stayed on the 1st floor in Marlborough. Gorgeous big room with first class bathroom. Great location to walk into town with pearling. Make sure even if you arrive early to go inside and register your car for the days you are staying. Be aware it’s a steep drive into the car park so low sports cars be careful. I struggled to get out. The key holders are to the left of the door as you walk in , walk to the window this side and they are on your left. Not obvious to fine. Big downside is it’s so noisy. The road is busy until early the next morning.

Brilliantly located, easy to access, clean, comfortable and with all the amenities we wanted. Only minor grumble was creaky floorboards so noise from the people walking about in the room above and doesn’t have a breakfast option but there are plenty of restaurants in the area.

It gives me no pleasure to write this... Very friendly when arranging 2 rooms for a special visit...a lovely, grand house if a little 'tired' outside. Free parking and a great location. Yes, the self check-in a bit fiddly but no big deal...but... When we arrived one of our rooms hadn't been 'serviced' since the previous 'occupiers' who had clearly had a great time : bin full of booze bottles, dirty towels over the bathroom floor and the bed unmade & clearly 'used'. Grim. We called the emergency number : the lady was clearly horrified, and offered to send someone round immediately but we had a dinner appointment : we couldn't even shower : the room felt 'soiled'. We went out and the room was 'ready' when we got back but the evening / stay was already ruined. Although things can / do go wrong with anything, anywhere, not cleaning / servicing a hotel room after a stay is like a new car being delivered without wheels. Worse, when I wrote after a few days (I'd waited for a mail with an apology / some sort of gesture) suggesting some degree of refund....no response. Both our room (and our friends) were generally 'dusty' and ours even had a large light where the plug had no 'back' on : totally exposing the mains wires! Again, it saddens me to write this : I stay in hotels every week and have never had a room 'unserviced' : how can that be missed? Basic. And no sort of gesture for a ruined evening / stay? Come on! Sorry....in many ways.

It's a lovely well kept Victorian with beautiful interiors. I would have appreciated additional table tops or shelving for travel gear. I would definitely stay here again.

The good: good location, easy parking, nice big bedroom, cathedral view The not so good: small bathroom (St Alban - have stayed in other rooms here with bigger bathrooms), only one chair, everything feels a little bit tired and dated, one might be forgiven for expecting more for the premium prices being charged!

A lovely boutique hotel (basically renovated rooms in a historic mansion). Rooms were comfortable and modern. Had a mini fridge in each room (which is rare), and access to a shared kitchen area for cooking etc. which was handy. Could do with some facial tissues in the room. Other than that, the check in/out process was contact-free and fuss-free. Would stay again in future!

Loved the location! As a solo female staying there, I would have liked windows with better and working locking mechanisms (one was broken altogether and neither of them were very sturdy) as well as better lighting around the property at night. Since it was summer, windows needed to be open for air circulation but need a way to lock them in open position thats better. Everything else was fine.

Beautiful Georgian house with lovely spacious rooms. Added bonus of use of the kitchen so I could cater for myself. The one drawback is that it is on a main road and as my room was at the front of the property it was very noisy

Since some of the negative reviews on this site were published, Torrington Hall has been completely refurbished, and we found it excellent. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious, clean and comfortable. Don't be put off by there being no bar or restaurant - there are plenty of alternative choices just a few steps away in St Albans. We booked three of the rooms, using it as a venue for a family get-together to celebrate a special birthday. It was ideal for this purpose. Access instructions, which have previously been criticised, were concise and easy to follow. No problem at all. We were delighted with the arrangements, the ambience and the whole experience. I am happy to recommend it without any concerns.
