Nayara Alto Atacama

San Pedro De Atacama|0.39km from Pukara de Quitor
We stayed at the Nayara Atacama resort for 3 nights as a family of four. Overall, I liked it enough and don’t have any terrible complaints, however I rate it a 4 out of 5 since it could be a lot better. The property is beautifully situated. It is near the town of San Pedro, and close to many excursion sites. The hotel certainly offers lots of options to take advantage of this. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Excursions were great with the tour guides being very helpful and entertaining. Most of the time we were on our own with a tour guide for excursions. Why a 4, not a 5? We felt like there were a lot of little things that were annoying - and it added up. In fact, I would rate it lower if it weren’t for the fact that every single staff member has done an amazing job. The team just makes such a huge difference. Any request or question - they were all immediately happy to help. First, a fairly minor point -- you are essentially forced to book your excursions before you even see the room. After a long day of flights / travel, that’s not ideal. I recommend that you contact them ahead of time and figure out what you want your schedule to be - because there are many options. Second, the meal times are completely out of sync with both excursions and the spa schedule. For example, first half day excursions all end at around 12:30 but lunch doesn’t get served until 1:30. So you get back tired after a trip and have to wait for an hour to get food. The worst part was at dinner - we had to rush through our meal (only starts at 7:30) to make the 8:20 astronomy hike. We saw several other families doing the same and complaining that it was difficult to finish a meal in 50 minutes. And the spa closes at 9, which means you can’t ever go after dinner. Yes, there is a limited bar menu but we just found all of the scheduling to be incredibly inconvenient. This is especially true for kids. It would be such a simple fix to extend the meal times and create a more relaxing mealtime atmosphere for everyone, instead of adhering to a random and rigid schedule. Third - and this is the biggest negative -- my kids were utterly disappointed with the pools. These were probably the worst hotel pools we’ve seen, unfortunately. They are super tiny - and all but one are freezing cold. One of them was getting redone while we were there (and the smell from construction was strong) and the only heated pool was dirty and they kept trying to clean it… but it was pretty green. I think it is fine if adults just want to relax by the pool (in which case there are plenty of quiet and secluded spots) but if you are traveling with kids, it is just not the place for swimming. That isn’t great because kids get tired on excursions and a nice dip in the afternoon would be perfect. I probably wouldn't have booked this resort if I knew about the pool situation. Overall, definitely a decent place to stay in Atacama. I would just be aware of some of these minor issues so you ar

Our Habitas Atacama

San Pedro De Atacama|1.73km from Pukara de Quitor
I had a lovely stay at Our Habitas Atacama. This is an absolutely beautiful place, with a vibe that whispers family and community in the best way possible. The staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful— in a way that made me feel like they were my friends and not performing their “duties as staff.” I had such a wonderful stay… I booked a chakra alignment/massage/energy work with Valesca and felt TRANSFORMED afterward. It was one of the best massages of my life. She was absolutely incredible. I arrived early (well ahead of check-in) and Carolina, one of the front desk staff, was so sweet. She did everything in her power to get me to a room as soon as possible, which was a BEAUTIFUL room with a rooftop terrace for stargazing in the evening. I never wanted to leave the property, actually, even though there are so many wonderful things to do in Atacama! All staff were super attentive and friendly— other highlights included Oscar, one of the most charming and knowledgeable staff I have met at any hotel, anywhere; Cristobal, the community manager who scheduled my wellness visit and I now feel like is one of my friends; Camila— who shared a super secret stargazing spot on the property; Sebastian, Kenny— you were both wonderful, too! I have read from other guests’ reviews that they thought the rooms were uncomfortable and hot— I went during record heat and when I requested a fan, it was in my room within 15 minutes, and it was quiet! Additionally, I found the beds to be incredibly comfortable and the rooms delightful. But most of all, what I would love to return to is this idea that at Habitas, you feel genuinely cared for and a sense of friendship and family. I would definitely book again.

Inti & Killa Hostal

San Pedro De Atacama|1.81km from Pukara de Quitor
Pros: -Spacious room that was impeccably clean. -Fridge in room -Friendly staff -No AC not necessary as cool during the day and sufficiently warm (with blanket provided) at night. Of note, we were there during the month of March. Cons: -Wi-fi in the reception area but no Wi-Fi in the room -Hot water was spotty. If you ran the shower long enough, you would usually get hot water...but one hates to waste water, especially in the desert. -Breakfast was lackluster and did not change from day to day (rolls, jam, butter, cereal, powdered milk, ham, cheese, one fruit). One day they ran out of food. Although, it seems that breakfasts at hotels in San Pedro are generally not great. Other: -Staff don't speak much English but if you know a little Spanish, you will be fine. -Staff very nice but reception was not always staffed and it could be a nuisance to track someone down. -Parking is outside during the day. At night, they recommend bringing the car inside the compound given the dust at night. If staff was not around, it was a pain to find someone to unlock the parking area to bring the car in/out. -There is a small pool but we only used it once for about 10 minutes as whatever chemicals they use to treat the water caused the eyes to burn. -No hairdryer or Kleenex in the room. If you anticipate needing either, bring your own. -Slightly out outside of town. Not an issue for us as we had a car. Giving it 3 stars due to the hot water issue, no wi-fi in room, and difficulty tracking down staff at times. If none of these elements are important to you, then you will be happy here.

Hotel la Casa de Don Tomas

Hotel prices are high in San Pedro de Atacama so we chose this simple hotel which suited our budget. The main thing that stood out about this hotel is how genuinely friendly and accommodating staff and management are. They offer a very good breakfast with a large choice of what looks like home made cakes and pastries. Free excellent coffee (and teas) are available day and night and I liked their filtered drinking water dispensers as it saved us buying bottled water and is eco friendly. What we didn’t love, and hence only four stars, is that there is a lot of noise from the courtyard which doubles as driveway as well as from the hallways within the building - you can hear everything and as many people have early starts our sleep was disturbed countless times. If I chose to stay here again I’d pay a little extra for a premium room as they are neatly tucked away far from the main entrance and street. Another negative point is that the rooms get very hot during the day and with the lack of air conditioning it’s nearly impossible to get the heat out of the rooms. All in all we still had a good time here especially because of the friendly and helpful staff.

An oasis in the desert. Forget the hustle and bustle of Caracoles street when you enter the spacious plaza of Don Raul. The place is well staffed, the room clean and comfortable, and the staff is very helpful. A shout out to Patricio who was more than accomodating. The pool is brisk and refreshing after a day of sight seeing. Next time we go to Atacama, we are staying here.
Rey Lagarto Hostel

The check in was smooth. I as a non-Chilean didn't need to pay the extra taxes. It's 1.5km from centro, but that's not a big problem. I walked back and forth to centro, and I felt safe even at late night. The room was ok. The bunk bed was sturdy. There were 3 living areas: indoor, roofed outdoor, and rooftop. Rey Lagarto has the typical international hostel vibes and services. The major room for improvement was the wifi, which was slow and unstable. I'm not sure if this was about the geography of Atacama.
Terrantai Lodge

OH MY GOSH! Don't stay anywhere else in San Pedro. Terrantai is easily one of the best places I've ever stayed (and I've stayed in 150+ hotels). The attention to detail, the location, the STAFF!! All so so so incredible, especially Moisés, he is truly the best. The breakfast served every day is ”simple” but amazing, with fresh-to-order eggs, fresh croissants baked every morning (yes, I had 2 per day), fresh squeezed oj, and plenty more. There's snacks and tea every afternoon, wine ”tastings” (aka glasses) every night, free parking in a secured lot about a block away, hot showers, fast wifi..I think you get the point. NOTE: there is no A/C, but it's the desert, nights are cold and honestly it's not needed. I'm usually the type of person to filter places to stay on having ”A/C” first, so don't let the lack of A/C deter you! We left our room door open for an hour or so before going to bed to let the cold air in with the fan on and slept wonderfully! There's not really any bugs in Atacama to worry about, so we also slept with our window open for more fresh cool air. Terrantain, THANK YOU. We loved it here so much, I know it won't be my last stay
