The First70 Hotel

Olle Market Seogwipo|0.55km from Jeongbang Waterfall
First70 Hotel, Jeju, Korea - A Mix of Pros and Cons I recently had the opportunity to stay at First70 Hotel in Jeju, Korea and would like to share my experience. While the hotel’s location and service were commendable, I found certain aspects pertaining to cleanliness and amenities rather disappointing. Firstly, let me start with the positives. The hotel’s location is truly superb. Situated in a prime area of Jeju, it offers convenient access to popular attractions and transportation options. Whether you’re looking to explore the natural beauty of this picturesque island or indulge in shopping and dining experiences, First70 Hotel’s location is a definite advantage. The service provided by the staff at First70 Hotel was exceptional throughout my stay. From check-in to check-out, the hotel staff displayed professionalism and a genuine willingness to assist. They were attentive, responsive, and made sure all my needs were met promptly. The level of service truly enhanced my overall experience. However, there were certain areas where First70 Hotel fell short. Cleanliness was one such aspect that left much to be desired. I observed lackluster efforts in maintaining cleanliness standards within the rooms and public areas of the hotel. Stains on carpets, dusty surfaces, and subpar bathroom conditions were evident during my stay. Another disappointment was the state of amenities provided by First70 Hotel. While basic necessities were available, such as toiletries and towels, they seemed worn out or inadequate for a hotel aiming to provide a comfortable experience for its guests. Additionally, the absence of certain amenities that are commonly expected in hotels of similar caliber was quite noticeable. In conclusion, First70 Hotel’s location and service certainly make it an enticing option for travelers visiting Jeju. However, prospective guests should be aware that there are areas where improvement is needed - specifically in terms of cleanliness upkeep and provision of adequate amenities. It is my hope that management takes these concerns into consideration and takes necessary steps to rectify them, in order to provide a more satisfying experience for future guests.

This should be the southernmost hotel on Jeju Island. The landlord can't speak Chinese and English, but he is very enthusiastic and will communicate with translation software. When it rains, he also sent an umbrella. The house is a bit old. But it is very clean. The biggest advantage is that you can walk to the main house waterfall in seven minutes. There are two coffee shops next to it, and it is no problem to eat a simple meal.

Overall seems like a nice hotel but cleaning is not good (as in almost every hotel in South Korea I visited this time). The shower (white holder box-like thing) had black mold underneath it. Sink had yellow stains which means that it is not cleaned as it should be. Plastic from the base of bed frames is peeling off and plastic bits prickle your feet when you put them down from the bed- it is time to get a new bed bases. Apart from cleaning everything is good - lobby is modern, has vending machines to buy necessities, location is good but could be tough for some people to get to it (located at the bottom of a very steep hill). There are various places to eat delicious food (traditional Korean banquette menu, chicken, sashimi etc) within 5 minutes of walking. Free water bottles were provided every day. There is also open rooftop with jacuzzi (entrance is free, jacuzzi needs to be booked and payed in advance). Upon checking in they also ask for deposit (was asked just for a card number).

The aunts and uncles at the front desk can speak Chinese and communicate very smoothly. They can help with ordering takeout (the snow ice made by the hotel is also delicious), ordering a car, etc. The rooms are all traditional Korean houses. There is no elevator. The front desk and the rooms are separated from each other. You need to walk some distance. When you check in, there is a service guy to carry your luggage. When you check out, you have to move it yourself. It will be inconvenient to live in a room on the second floor. But I also went to take pictures of the Korean house. There are pros and cons. The photos are really beautiful. The auntie who borrowed the hanbok for free will help me put it on, and it is very clean.

The location is a bit off, but it is good to go to the beach. I can see the sea directly downhill and the sea in the room. Have free water to drink. It’s the hair on the sheets, the stains on the bathroom sink and the toilet are a bit stunned.
Cornerstone Hotel

Introduction Located about 70 minutes drive away from the Jeju international airport in Seogwipo, South Korea, the Cornerstone Hotel (코너스톤호텔) is a 1-star budget motel located within the Seogwipo city center. The key appeal of Cornerstone Hotel is as a short-stay stopover at the south of the island, within walking distance of the city, with most travellers staying just 1 or 2 nights at most. Ambience Ambience is cozy, almost cramped. Basic with limited views of the city, the place is functional and clean. Students on holiday opt to stay here, thanks to their budget-friendly prices. There's a rooftop terrace offering views of the city, which is particularly beautiful during sunset. Room Rooms at Cornerstone Hotel have a frustrating power layout, preventing use of some of the power sockets. The rooms are also exposed to harsh sunlight during the day, making them really warm. The bed is suitable for individuals, less comfortable for couples. The cable television, wi-fi, mini refrigerator, and bathroom are basic and functional. We tolerated the room during our stay, which was fortunately short. Food Food is self-prepared, thanks to their well-stocked pantry, and common kitchen. For breakfast, supplies of toasted bread, strawberry jam, white rice, soy sauce, and sliced cheddar cheese are all free. With a CU convenience store nearby, it's easy to get more food and drinks. Service Service is hardworking. The single staff manning the counter oversees guest services (check-in/out, request fulfilment), parking valet services, waste disposal, and security, though housekeeping is thankfully through a team of cleaners. Staff also helpfully guide guests in using the free washer and dryer, and use of cooking equipment in the common kitchen. Facilities & Activities The facilities and activities are typical of a motel, with the common kitchen and common dining room a great place for chilling, working, or interacting with others. There's free self-service laundry with the shared washer and dryer, and the ground floor parking area is guarded by a fierce dog (on a leash). Overall, the Cornerstone Hotel is decent for short stays of 1 or 2 days, except that I dislike the room power layout and really have to tolerate it.

This hotel has a great location and great value for money. The sea view room has a great view of the sea and is cleaned every day. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to nearby attractions. Especially it is very convenient to walk to the Olai Daily Market. To go to distant attractions, you can take a taxi from the hotel (starting fee is 18 yuan) and register in Seogwipo. There are many taxis that can go to any attraction. We stayed for 8 days this time and have stayed in this hotel before. Prices are very low in Jeju Island during this season. If you have any questions about Jeju Island, you can send me a private message and I will be happy to answer them.
